Consequences:Expectations are in place to ensure that a safe and

comfortable learning environment exists. When these expectations are not being met, the following consequences may be issued:

1st offense: Warning (verbal or written)2nd offense: Classroom Consequence (move seat,

behavior sheet last student to leave the room, etc.)3rd offense: Detention or Behavior Situation Sheet;

possible phone call home

Extreme circumstances that compromise the safety of oneself or others may require an immediate detention or

removal from the classroom.

Behavior Situation SheetAt times it may become necessary

for students to reflect upon classroom behavior that does not reflect the five core ethical values (Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, Kindness and Courage)

Students should be thoughtful in an attempt to identify the problem that is occurring in class and how it can be fixed.

When a student accumulates three Behavior Situation Sheets he/she will be assigned a detention.

Rewards

• Listening to music during lesson practice

• Choice time• Sit at teacher desk• Choose seat for a class• Stickers, pencils, erasers

Daily Procedures

Daily Schedule

• Warm-up Activity• Questions and Review• Daily agenda• Teacher Instruction/

Discussion/Group Activity• Independent/Partnered

Practice• Closure

When you enter my classroom you should:

• enter quickly and quietly• pick up any materials that have been left on

the counter for you• check the board or easel for announcements• sharpen pencils if necessary• sit in your assigned seat • take out the assignment that is due • begin the daily warm-up activity• wait quietly and patiently for instructions• decide whether you have any questions or

concerns to bring up during the daily review

Dismissal

• When class is over please stay seated and quiet for last minute instructions

• Occasionally you will be able to pack up beforehand; however, you may not line up at the door! (Those who line up at the door will be the last students to leave the classroom)

www.brainybetty.com 13

TardinessIt is your responsibility to make it to class on time! Tardiness to class is a disruption of the

learning environment.

You have two minutes to pass from class to class You should be in the classroom by the

time your class is scheduled to begin. Students who arrive after instruction may be

given a consequence. Students who are chronically tardy will be referred to the office.

You should be seated and working on your warm-up activity until given further instructions

(We will practice this for the first two weeks of school)

www.brainybetty.com 14

Tardy Policy: (according to your student handbook)

• Students who arrive after 7:20 are considered tardy and should report to the office.

• Three tardies within a thirty-day calendar period will result in lunch detention.

• Excessive tardies to school will result in progressive disciplinary action by the administration.

www.brainybetty.com 15

If you are late…

• Come in quietly• If you have a pass, leave it on

the teacher’s desk• Assimilate into the class in the

least disruptive way possible• At the end of class, approach

the teacher to explain your tardiness. If you did not have a pass, you will be issued a consequence.

www.brainybetty.com 16

What to do if you are absent:

• Check on-line or call a friend to get the missing assignment. If you can, attempt the assignment.

• Check the appropriate “While you were out…” box upon your return.

• All homework is due one day after your return to school

• If you missed any class work, the teacher will let you know what you need to make-up

• All missed classwork must be handed in by the end of the week

www.brainybetty.com 17

Independent Work

• Most classes will include independent work that will challenge you and allow you to practice new skills

• Unless otherwise stated, you are expected to work quietly, on your own

• I will circulate around the room to answer questions and assist with difficulties

• Please wait patiently for assistance

www.brainybetty.com 18

Cooperative Learning:

• When we are working on a cooperative activity, you will move your desk into designated clusters

• Each student will have a specific job for that day, which will be assigned by the teacher or determined as a group

• You will receive a participation grade for that class, which will be a zero if you do not complete your job or you make it impossible for a peer to complete his/her job

www.brainybetty.com 19

Materials• There is a designated area for materials

available to students. Please do not take materials from other areas of the classroom (especially the teacher’s desk)

• If you use any of these materials, please return them before leaving the classroom or you may lose the privilege of borrowing supplies

• When materials are passed out during class, you will be given specific instructions on what to do for the collection of those materials

• Mathematical tools have an intended purpose. You will be instructed on how to use these tools and may only use them in the indicated manner.

www.brainybetty.com 20

Distruptions:As already stated, students should remain seated at all times unless otherwise instructed. However, there are a few scenarios in which students may quietly get up from their seats without permission:

• to use a tissue• to get an emergency pencil (if your

pencil breaks when a teacher or student is talking, you can get up and exchange your pencil for a sharpened one)

• to sharpen a pencil at the beginning of class or during a quiet work time

www.brainybetty.com 21

Homework:• Homework will be assigned most nights• It is your responsibility to put forth your best effort

and attempt each problem• Each day your homework will be checked for

completion. Occasionally, homework will also be corrected and graded to check for understanding.

• If there is work to be shown, you must show it to receive full credit

• Homework quizzes will be given so you need to date and number the problems appropriately

• If you have an excused absence you are allowed to hand in the assignment one day after your return

• If your homework is not completed on the date that it is due, you will get a stamp in your agenda and you must fill out a pink slip form to indicate that you have not fulfilled your responsibility as a student.

• Failure to complete homework assignments may result in a teacher detention.

Academic Evaluation

www.brainybetty.com 23

Types of Assessment:

• Tests• Quizzes• Checks• Activities• Labs• Projects• Homework• Participation

www.brainybetty.com 24

Grading Policy• Each graded assignment will be given a point value. A student’s

accumulated point value will be totaled at the end of the marking period and a percentage of the total possible points will be calculated

• All graded assignments will remain filed in a folder in the classroom. Students will be instructed how to fill out the attached assignment sheet.

• Graded Assignment folders can go home at any time upon request

• In general, tests will be worth more points than quizzes• Graded assignments will be assigned a point value that

correlates to the amount of time that was dedicated to the assignment

• The Following scale will be used to determine letter grades for each trimester:

100-97=A+ 96-93=A 92-90=A-89-87=B+ 86-83=B 82-80=B-79-77=C+ 76-73=C 72-70=C-69-67=D+ 66-63=D 62-60=D-

Retake ConditionsYou may retake one test (to improve upon a poor score) per quarter subject to the following conditions:– The retake must be taken no more than five

days after the original was returned– The highest score that can be earned is an

70%– If the retake is lower, the retake score will

still count– A student may not have missed more than one

homework assignment on the material leading up to the test

– If a student received more than one zero or does not make up the zero, he/she is not eligible for a retake

Special Conditions

If you suddenly feel ill…

When the fire alarm sounds…

• Stay calm and quiet• Follow your teacher outside using the

door between the Science and Social Studies Classroom

• Line up in designated space• Listen for attendance• Remain there until you are told to move• Walk quickly and quietly into the

classroom• Sit down and listen for further

holds some type of urgency; all student’s must be able to

hear it!

www.brainybetty.com 32

When there are guests in the classroom…

• You may smile and greet the guests

• You should continue to follow directions and follow general classroom procedures (this is also true if there is a phone call to the classroom)

• Guests are usually there to observe your success. Impress them!

www.brainybetty.com 33

When you have a substitute teacher…

• All policies and procedures must be followed

• Assist this teacher to the best of your ability

• Individuals who do not cooperate will receive an immediate consequence upon the teacher’s return. (Repeat offenders will be referred to the office)

Thank you!

The outlined policies and procedures are in place to help our classroom run smoothly and to maximize learning. It may seem that there is much to remember, but after a few weeks, all of this will become second nature!

Are there any other policies or procedures that you think would create a more positive learning environment?
