EXPLANATIONOFCLAT2011RESULTS:UPDATEDLISTOFUNIQUERANKS

A Clarification

1. The results that we announcedon the 28th of May had several tied ranks i.e. manycandidatesscoredthesamemarksandthereforehadthesamerank.Itwastherefore

difficultforeachcandidatetoassesshis/heruniquerankvisavisothercandidates.We

havenowbrokenthesetiesusingtheCLATruleannouncedearlierintheCLATbrochure

(page4)andgenerateduniqueranksforeachcandidate.2. Thelistthatwehaveputuptoday(30thMay2011)ontheCLATwebsitereflectsthree

components:

a. themarksofeachcandidateoutofatotalof200b. theuniquerankofeachcandidatebasedonthemarksreceived(andafterties

havebeenbroken)

c. the various All India categories that candidates belong to such as GeneralCategory, Scheduled Caste (SC), ScheduledTribe(ST),Personswith Disabilities

(PWD)etc,aselaborateduponbelow.

B AllIndiaCategories

Weexplain the variousAll Indiacategoriesasbelow.Wewill provideaseparaterank listof

statewisereservationcategoriesinthenextcoupleofdays.

1. AllIndia(General)All22,622candidates(UG[21,353]+PG[1269])whotooktheCLATexamthisyearbelongtotheAllIndiaGeneralCategory.Therankunderthiscategoryis

theoveralluniquerankbasedonthemarks that aparticular candidate scored,when

comparedwithallothercandidatesthattooktheCLATexam.

2. AllIndiaSC:indicatestheuniquerankamongallIndiascheduledcaste(SC)candidateswhotooktheexam.

3. AllIndiaST: indicatestheuniquerankamongallIndiascheduledtribe(ST)candidateswhotooktheexam.

4. All IndiaPWD: indicates the unique rankamongPersonswithDisability (PWD)whotooktheexam.

5. All India Women: some participating NLUs, such as NALSAR (Hyderabad) and NLIU(Bhopal) have seats reserved for women candidates from across India. This column

notesyouruniquerankinthecategory.

6. All India SC (Women): some participating NLUs have seats reserved for women

candidatesfromwithintheAllIndiaSCcategory.Thiscolumnnotesyouruniquerankin

thecategory.

7. All India ST (Women): some participating NLUs have seats reserved for womencandidatesfromwithintheAllIndiaSTcategory.Thiscolumnnotesyouruniquerankin

thecategory.

8. All India PWD (Women): some participating NLUs have seats reserved for womencandidatesfromwithintheAllIndiaPWDcategory.Thiscolumnnotesyouruniquerank

inthecategory.

9. AllIndiaSC(PWD):someparticipatingNLUshaveseatsreservedforPWDcandidatesfrom within the All India SC category. This column notes your unique rank in the

category.

10.All IndiaST (PWD):someparticipatingNLUshaveseatsreservedforPWDcandidatesfrom within the All India ST category. This column notes your unique rank in the

category.

11.NRI:ThreeoftheparticipatingNLUs(NUJS,NLIUandHNLU)haveseatsreservedforNRIandNRIsponsoredcandidates.Thiscolumnnotesyouruniquerankinthecategory.

C StateCategories

1. PleasenotethatthecurrentlistofuniqueranksdealsonlywiththeAllIndiacategories.The ranking based on state wise categories (since some NLUs have state wise

reservationsbasedondomicileetc)willbereleasedinthenextfewdays.

However,pleasenotethatalthoughwewillreleasethestatewiserankingsontheCLAT

website, the CLAT counselling platform will not deal with state wise quotas and

reservations.Theseareleftuptotherespectiveparticipatinginstitutions,sinceallstate

quotasdifferinmaterialparticularsandinnumbers.

WeurgeyoutodirectlycontacttherespectiveNLUintheparticularstateforthisstate

wise information, categories and seatsavailable.All thesecategories can begleaned

from the information relating to each University and their seat availability asmade

available inpdfdocumentsonthe lefthandbaroftheCLATwebsitehomepage.Also

peruse the websitesofparticipatingNLUs for current informationonthe number of

seatsavailableineachcategory.Clickingonthenameoftheuniversityonthelefthand

baroftheCLATwebsitehomepagewouldopenthewebsiteofthatuniversity.Please

alsocalluptherespectiveuniversitiesforaccurateinformationonstatewisequotas.

D OnlineCounsellingPlatform

1. Theonlinecounsellingplatformwillbeactivatedinthenext710days.However,itwillonlybeopentoaselectgroupofstudentsbasedonabroadcutoff.Wewillprovidethis

listofstudentssoonontheCLATwebsite.Onlythosestudentswhoarepartofthislist

willbeinvitedtoparticipateintheonlinecounsellingplatform.

2. Sincecandidatesalreadyhavetheiruniqueindividualrankandknowtheirpositionvisavisothercandidates,westronglyurgethemtocarefullystudytheUniversitybrochures

anddotheirhomeworkaboutrespectiveinstitutions.Thiswillenablethemtomakeagoodinformedchoice,oncetheonlineplatformopensup.Theplatformwouldsimply

ask each candidate to rate his/her preference of Universities. Then, based on the

candidatespreference,his/herrankandthecategorythattheybelongto(SC/STetc),

theonlineplatformwillallotthecandidatetospecificUniversitiesandinvitethemto

completenecessaryformalitiessoastosecureadmissiontotheallottedUniversities.

3. Pleasenote that the CLAT counseling platformwill not dealwith statewise quotas.Theseareleftuptotherespectiveparticipatinginstitutions,sinceallstatequotasdifferinmaterialparticularsand innumbers.Youmust directlydealwith the participating

Universitiesonthisaspect.

4. WewillprovideyouhelplinenumbersontheCLATwebsitetoclearallofyourdoubtssoon. However, since time is short, we strongly urge you to please collect as much

informationasyoucanaboutthevariousuniversitiesfromtheirwebsites,fromtalking

tostudentsatNLUs,lawyersetcsothatyouknowtherespectiveprosandconsofeach

participatingNLUandcanmakeaninformedchoicewhileselectingcollegesinyourlist

ofpreferences.
