Coroflex® product rangeCables within industrial communications systems form a key backbone in the field of automation technology. However, not all cables are the same – and that’s why Coroplast has developed a new, innovative generation of sensor and control cables. The applicationsoriented product family Coroflex® not only meets the standard requirements of a broad range of sectors, it also raises the bar in terms of product characteristics.
7 Coroflex® Sensor
Coroflex® SensorAt the end of the 1990s, the first halogenfree, flameretardant sensor and control cables in PUR quality were introduced. The requirements mainly originated from the field of automotive production and its suppliers in the mechanical and plant engineering sectors. Over the years, these PUR cables have become established as market standard products.
Furthermore, the newly developed Coroflex® Sensor made by Coroplast meets requirements that the market had only offered partial solutions for in the past.

The requirements when manufacturing sensitive products such as in the fields of food, pharmaceuticals, optics and semiconductors are becoming increasingly complex. Even the slightest contamination in the production process can lead to considerable disruptions and interferences.
In order to reduce potential sources of contamination, Coroplast has developed a product line that features product attributes that promote cleanliness. These include the cleanroom classification in accordance with ISO146441 and the use of dissipative materials that achieve an antistatic effect.
The classification has been tested by the Fraunhofer IPA, just like other product and performance characteristics.

The food industry requires the highest standards for production systems and their components. The most important criterion is to ensure longterm, efficient food manufacturing. Numerous standards and regulations govern how machinery and components have to be designed to guarantee that they can be optimally cleaned. A product perfectly designed for outstanding hygiene, for example, helps to reduce or even eliminate possible sources of contamination. Furthermore, when the products are cleaned and disinfected, they need to be able to withstand a great deal of thermal, chemical and mechanical wear and tear.
The new Coroplast product line combines these requirements with a germrepellent cable sheath surface and the use of an FDAcompliant material as well as ECOLAB and Fraunhofer IPA certifications, of course.

For years now, multidrugresistant organisms in hospitals have been in the headlines. Bacteria such as MRSA, also commonly known as hospital germs, can cause dangerous infections in chronically ill patients or those with weakened immune systems. The bacteria are transmitted either from one person to the next or via contaminated objects. The focus is on medical devices, patient communication products and their cables, which are often not properly cleaned and disinfected.
Coroplast has developed a product line that features germrepellent cable surfaces. Germrepellent surfaces prevent germs from collecting in the first place. The technology is based on a purely physical principle – without the need for biocidal substances and nanometals. Germrepellent additives are firmly embedded in the sheath material and cannot escape from the carrier material like nanometals. They provide longterm protection and a high degree of safety.
As a further option, Coroplast offers a version that features a statically dissipative material. The electrically conductive sheath surface protects from electrostatic discharges in the field of electronics.

Glossary
Outgassing Testing is performed in accordance with ISO 146448. The outgassing behaviour of
material suitable for cleanrooms is an important criterion in preventing contamination in cleanrooms. Outgassing components from materials (plasticisers, solvents and other volatile components) pollute the ambient air, which are defined as airborne molecular contaminations by chemicals (AMCs). The most important of these are the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) – an essential criterion in applications for the semiconductor and medical technology sectors.
Biological resistance Testing is performed in accordance with DIN EN ISO 846. The test ascertains the degree
to which polymeric materials are degraded by biological microorganisms (bacteria, algae, fungi, etc.). Here, polymeric materials can serve as a source of nutrition or be changed by the metabolic processes of microorganisms (discolorations on surfaces, volume changes, etc.) and thereby significantly affect the usability of products, representing a major safety hazard for pharmaceutical, food and medical applications.
Easy to clean – riboflavin testThe test ascertains how well a material can be cleaned by wiping. The aim of the test is to quali
tatively verify to which degree a fluorescent test contamination is reduced by means of a representatively selected cleaning method. From a hygienic point of view, product surfaces need to be easy to clean in order to create a hygienically safe process and longlasting products.
Germ-repellent surfaceGermrepellent surfaces prevent germs from collecting and multiplying. Our tech
nology is based on a purely physical principle – without the need for biocidal substances and nanometals. The determination was performed in accordance with ISO 22196 with the following microorganisms:› Staphylococcus aureus › Escherichia coliAfter 24 hours, an assessment was conducted by performing a microbial count of the reference and then a microbial count of the germrepellent surface.
Low particle emissions in accordance with ISO 14644The suitability of a product for use in a cleanroom
is partially determined by its particle emission behaviour. If a material is exposed to mechanical friction, it results in mechanical wear in the form of particles. Cables being tested are built into drag chains in cleanroom conditions and tested using representative travel movements. Specially developed methods of measurement are then used to ascertain the size and the number of particles. In accordance with VDI 2083, sheet 9.1, suitability for cleanroom use is determined by the particle emission behaviour and classified in accordance with ISO 146441.
Talcum-freeIn cable manufacture, talcum is used as a release agent and a lubricant and, among other
things, it makes the cable sheath easier to remove. Particularly in cable assembly, contamination through talcum can cause problems in many applications. Using a specially developed production process, we have been able to successfully manufacture talcumfree cables. However, due to the process used, traces of talcum cannot be completely ruled out. We will be pleased to provide you with more information on this topic on request.
