February finished mostly flat following the record sell-offs from January. Spending was soft in the manufacturing sector and for business equipment. Housing data suggests further gradual improvement. Labor force participation rose very slightly for the third quarter in a row. Inflation rates remain very low. Financial markets and commodity prices remain very volatile. Consumer spending continues to be solid. !

Much of the world and domestic small cap indexes have dropped into bear market territory.

Clear Giving

During a recent trip to an education conference in Orlando, Florida both Joe Gates and Ben Warren participated in a United Way “bike build event.” They successfully assembled three bicycles toward the goal of 100. At the conclusion of the event Joe and Ben were able to help present the bikes to children. “Their wide-eyed expressions of joy was priceless,” said Joe Gates as he reminisced about the experience. !
