Clemmie Rachel Hammond Quinn
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8
entered into eternal peace on Saturday, December 26, 2015 at the age of 90.
Clemmie was born on July 30, 1925, the daughter of the late Leslie Hammond and Cornelia Conley Hammond. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters: Wilma Hammond, Curtis Hammond, George Hammond, Leslie Hammond Jr., James Hammond, J.C. Hammond, Bertha Hammond Guy, Annie Hammond Stepney, Emily Hammond Campbell and Rosie May Gray.
Clemmie was the twelfth and final child, which earned her the loving title of "Baby Girl". As the last born and the last to pass amongst her siblings, she leaves her family as the Matriarch who represented her generation well.
Clemmie entered into holy matrimony with the late Luther Quinn, who committed to God's Covenant until his death. To their union five children were born. Melvin Quinn, Carolyn Quinn Harris, Joyce Quinn Diamond, Sandra Quinn Oubre and Anthony Quinn. 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
She was born in Tylertown, MS where she confessed to Christ at an early age and became a member at St. James United Methodist Church, formerly known as China Grove Methodist Church. She was one of seven members to meet and establish what we now know as "The Willing Workers Club, she held the
position as "Financial Secretary" and worked faithfully before being called home to the Lord. Clemmiebegan her education in Tylertown MS., where she started her career as a Teacher with hopes of furthering her career in the field of Education, but the Lord had a change of plans and direction for her life.
After uniting in holy matrimony, she moved to New Orleans where she joined Union Bethel AME Church. In 1961 she moved to Pontchartrain Park and joined Bethany UMC, where she served and worked faithfully as an usher until she was uprooted by Hurricane Katrina. She then moved to Houston, Texas for three years where she spent time with all of her children until she returned to New Orleans and resided with her youngest daughter Sandra. Upon returning to New Orleans she reunited with Greater Grace Fellowship and Pastor Lawrence P. Gaines until her death.
In her early career, she worked at Schwegmann’s Supermarket where her hard work and dedication soon earned her the position of cashier supervisor. After being a devoted employee for 27 years, she retired in 1991.
After retirement from Schwegmann’s Supermarket, she embarked on a second career. She completed the training and received the Title of Certified Nurse’s Assistant. She found her responsibilities as a CNA to be truly rewarding because it allowed her to encourage others and share her love and passion for the Lord. She was always speaking the Word, encouraging and praying for her children, family and friends, speaking about Jesus to anyone who would listen.
Clemmie will be sadly missed by her children, Melvin Quinn, Carolyn Quinn Harris, Joyce Quinn Diamond, Sandra Quinn Oubre and Anthony Quinn; 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. John 14:1-3

You are a mother like no other. You gave us life. You nurtured
us, taught us right from wrong, cared for us, fought for us and
held us close and showered us with tender kisses. However, most
importantly you loved us unconditionally. There are not enough
words we can say to describe just how important you are to us
mom, and what a powerful influence you continue to be in our
life. Mother, we will miss you so much and we will forever hold
you deep in our hearts.
We Love You So Much,
Melvin, Carolyn, Joyce, Sandra and Anthony
