CLEVELAND CAVALIERS TEAM NOTES (CONTINUED)

TRISTAN’S TAKEOVER: Tristan Thompson is averaging a double-double over his last 19 contests (Nov.

30-Jan. 5) with 13.1 points and 10.2 rebounds in 33.5 minutes per game. Through 34 games, Tristan Thompson has recorded a team-high 15 double-doubles. Seven of his 15 double-doubles came in the team’s first 11 games of the season, becoming the first Cavs player to do so since Zydrunas Ilgauskas had eight double-doubles through the first 11 games of the 2007-08 campaign. In 2013-14, Thompson ranks tied-4th in the Eastern Conference in double-doubles (tied-16th in NBA), 3rd in East in rebounds per game (13th in NBA) and 2nd in East in offensive rebounds per game (3.7, 5th in NBA).

GETTING OFFENSIVE: From Dec. 10-20, Cleveland scored at least 107 points in five straight games for the first time since December 19-28, 1993.

JACK OF ALL TRADES: In his first season with the Cavaliers, Jarrett Jack leads all Eastern Conference reserves in assists per game at 3.8 (4th best among all

NBA bench players). Since Dec. 6, Jack has averages of 10.5 points, including a .417 (15-36) clip from the three-point line, 3.9 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 29.7 minutes per game.

HISTORICAL NIGHT: For just the 3rd time in Cavaliers history, a Cavs player tallied at least 40 points, nine assists and four steals in a single game when Kyrie

Irving put up those numbers against Atlanta on Dec. 26. The only other times that feat was accomplished in Cavaliers history were March, 5, 2008 (LeBron James, 50 points, 10 assists, four steals at NYK) and March 13, 1979 (Campy Russell, 41 points, nine assists, four steals vs. PHX). (Elias)

MR. 5TH QUARTER: Kyrie Irving is averaging 8.8 points in five overtime contests this season, which included a game-winning layup versus the Sixers on Nov.

9. His 12 points in the second overtime on Dec. 26 versus Atlanta was one point shy of tying the most points scored in a single overtime in franchise history (LeBron James, 13 points in second OT on Jan. 24, 2007 vs. PHI). Irving has also been solid in the fourth quarter with an average of 6.6 points (6th in NBA). Against the Wizards on Nov. 20, Kyrie Irving scored 18 of his game-high 28 points in the fourth quarter, the 3rd highest scoring fourth quarter of his career. In the early 2013-14 season, Irving has scored at least 10 points in eight fourth quarters.

IRVING SWATS FOUR SHOTS: In the win over Milwaukee on Dec. 20, Kyrie Irving had 39 points on 13-25 (.520) shooting, six assists and a career-high

four blocks in 42 minutes. Since blocks became an official stat in 1973-74, Irving is the only Cavs guard to post 39 points and four blocks in a single game.

ANOTHER P.O.W.: On Dec. 16, Kyrie Irving was named as the NBA’s Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played Dec. 9-15. In three games

during that week, Irving averaged 29.0 points on .508 (32-63) shooting, including .409 (9-22) from beyond the arc and .933 (14-15) from the foul line, 6.3 assists and 2.3 steals in 34.3 minutes per game. His 29.0 points per game average was the highest among all Eastern Conference guards that week and second-highest among all East players. He posted the highest field goal percentage among all players in the conference who had at least a 21.0 points per game average (minimum three games). He was also one of two players in the East to record multiple 30-point games and the only one to record at least 30 points and 10 assists in a single game. Irving won the award for the second time of his career (Jan. 21-27, 2013).

LIGHTS OUT: In a 109-94 victory over the New York Knicks on Dec. 10 at The Q, Cleveland shot a season-high .568 (42-74) from the field. That was their

highest shooting percentage since December 28, 2011 when they hit .571 of their shots at Detroit.

JUST LIKE WORLD B. FREE: In the Dec. 10 win over the Knicks, Kyrie Irving posted his third double-double of the season with a game-high 37 points on

14-23 (.609) shooting, including 4-7 (.571) from three-point range, to go along with a game-high 11 assists, one steal and one turnover in 36 minutes. He became the first Cavs player since World B. Free on March 29, 1986 (43 points, 11 assists, 0 turnovers) to tally at least 37 points and 11 assists, while having one or fewer turnovers in a single game. Before Irving, the last NBA player to accomplish that feat was Kobe Bryant on December 29, 2009 (44 points, 11 assists, one turnover versus Golden State).

DEFENSIVE DOMINANCE: In an 88-82 win over the L.A. Clippers on Dec. 7, Cleveland held Los Angeles to 28-87 (.322) shooting from the field, a season-

low by a Cavaliers opponent. The last time Cleveland held an opponent to .322 shooting or less was November 18, 2003 which was also against the L.A. Clippers (.319). Cleveland also held them to 7-35 (.200) shooting from the three-point line and outrebounded the Clippers 60-45. The 60 rebounds were a season-high for the Cavs and the first time hitting that mark since February 25, 2011 versus New York (62 rebounds).

RARE NUMBERS: In a 98-88 win over Denver on Dec. 4, Tristan Thompson, who had 13 rebounds in the first half to tie for the 3rd most in The Q’s history for

most rebounds in a single half, finished the night with 17 points, a career-high 21 rebounds and a season-high three blocks. The only other player in Cavaliers history with a game in which he equaled or exceeded Thompson's totals in each of those categories (since the NBA began tracking blocked shots in 1973-74) is Cliff Robinson, who had three such games for Cleveland (two in 1982-83 and one the following season).

BLOCK PARTY: Cleveland blocked a season-high 13 shots in a 98-88 win against Denver on Dec. 4, the team’s most since March 16, 2004 (13 blocks vs. CHI).

The Cavs have also had consecutive 10-plus blocks performances this season (10 blocks versus Philadelphia on Nov. 9 and 11 blocks at Chicago on Nov. 11) for the first time since swatting 10 or more shots in consecutive games on Dec. 5-6, 2008 (10 blocks vs. IND, 10 blocks at CHA, respectively). The Cavs already have five games with at least 10 blocks this season (11/4 vs. MIN, 11/9 vs. PHI, 11/11 at CHI, 12/4 vs. DEN, 12/20 vs. MIL) after only having two such games in 2012-13 (1/4/13 at CHA & 3/6/13 vs. UTA). (Elias Sports Bureau)

41 AGAIN: In a win over Washington on Nov. 16, Kyrie Irving tied his career high with 41 points on 14-28 (.500) shooting, including 4-7 (.571) from deep, a

perfect 9-9 from the foul line, four rebounds, five assists and two steals in 42 minutes. Irving had 18 of his 41 points come in the 4th quarter (9) and overtime (9). It was the 3rd time in his career he has scored at least 40 points (41 at NYK on 12/15/12 and 40 vs. BOS on 1/22/13). Irving also scored 39 points in a 127-125 double-overtime win over Philadelphia on Nov. 9, when he also became the 3rd Cavs player to ever tally 39 points, five rebounds and 12 assists in a single game (LeBron James and Mark Price).

JACK DOES IT ALL: In the win over the Sixers on Nov. 9, Jarrett Jack finished with 20 points, four rebounds, five assists, three steals and a career-high three

blocks in 37 minutes. Since the NBA began tracking starters and subs in 1970, Jack is just the 6th player to come off the bench and put up at least 20 points, four rebounds, five assists, three steals and three blocks in a single game. The last player to do so was Minnesota’s Tom Gugliotta on March 14, 1995 at San Antonio (23 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, 5 steals, 3 blocks). Other reserves who have done so are Lloyd Daniels (11/7/92), Clifford Robinson (1/20/93), Robert Reid (11/22/83) and Johnny Moore (12/4/80). (Elias Sports Bureau)

UNDER 95: Through the first four games of the 2013-14 season (Oct. 30 – Nov. 4), Cleveland held each opponent to under 95 points, tying the franchise record

for the longest streak of holding opponents to under 95 points to begin a season. Only the 1997-98 Cavaliers accomplished that feat. (STATS, Inc.)

YOUNG BLOODS: The Cavaliers entered the 2013-14 campaign as the 2nd youngest team in

the NBA with an average age of 24 years, 156 days (as of Oct. 29). Only the Philadelphia 76ers had a younger team than the Cavs coming into the season (24 years, 136 days). (Elias Sports Bureau)

On Wednesday, January 8th, the Brown family, alongside Cavs players Henry Sims, Sergey Karasev, Matthew Dellavedova and Anthony Bennett, had the honor of cutting the ribbon to open the Cavaliers’ first high school Resource Library & Technology Center. With support from Wamelink-Ritenour Restoration, Central Graphics, Lisa Cencula, Fathead, Wayside Furniture and Sherwin Williams, the Brown family and the Cavs completely renovated the John Marshall High School library to inspire students’ interest in higher education. Renovations included a fresh coat of paint on the walls courtesy of Sherwin Williams, custom graphics and life-size player cut-outs courtesy of Fathead, a new study area with furniture provided by Wayside Furniture, two reconditioned display cases, new wireless cards for each of the library’s computers, new school supplies and inspiring quotes posted throughout the room.
