I can create my own words ending with adjacent consonantsI can use words ending with adjacent consonants in a poem Click on the link below to remind yourself of the story. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D84WWxBhbn4Can you remember last week’s work on Beegu’s nonsense words? Well, I have some more information! Someone has managed to record the odd sounds that Beegu made when she answered the phone when she thought her mother was calling. This is what Beegu said:

Buzz…. bliff… fless… skazz… crull… trock What do you notice about the word endings that are coloured red? They

all have double letters apart from the nonsense word ‘trock’. Nevertheless, the final sound is a /k/. The rule is that when there is a

single vowel in a short word and the word ends with f, l, s, z or k then the letter is doubled. Look at the chart below to remind yourself of which

letters are vowels and which are consonants.

Practise Look at the 4-box phoneme frames below. The fourth boxes have already been filled with the double consonant letters from Beegu’s nonsense words and sounds from above. Now it’s your turn to create more alien-

Application into writing Write a short poem about Beegu’s sounds using the nonsense sound words that you have created above. Here is my example (don’t copy it!) Beegu goes skazz, skizz, skozz, Beegu goes fless, fliss, flass, Beegu goes bliff, bloff, blaff.

English Lesson 2 12th May2020Learning Intention: To retell the story of BeeguSuccess Criteria: I understand that a story has a beginning, middle and an endI can sequence the story of BeeguI can retell the story of BeeguCan you remember the story of Beegu? If not, watch it again by clicking on this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D84WWxBhbn4

All stories have a beginning, middle and an end. What happens in the beginning, middle and end of the Beegu story? What is the problem? (Clue: this happens in the middle). Now, look at the pictures below. If you can print them, you can cut them out and sequence them from beginning

Page 8: Click on the link below and complete fastjamesthegreat.southwark.sch.uk/.../2020/05/Year-1-Sum…  · Web viewHave a look at Bert’s bricks below. Each brick has a different letter

to end. Otherwise, just look at the pictures and make sure you are clear about what is happening in each one.

Page 9: Click on the link below and complete fastjamesthegreat.southwark.sch.uk/.../2020/05/Year-1-Sum…  · Web viewHave a look at Bert’s bricks below. Each brick has a different letter

Writing Write sentences about each picture describing what is happening. Use these sentence starters to help you:

In the beginning......Beegu tried to talk to people but......Beegu felt sad because.... No one wanted Beegu because....Finally,....

Page 10: Click on the link below and complete fastjamesthegreat.southwark.sch.uk/.../2020/05/Year-1-Sum…  · Web viewHave a look at Bert’s bricks below. Each brick has a different letter

Use your phonic sound mats to help you with your spelling. Remember they have tricky words at the back which you can use too. Also, don’t forget to use:

Capital letters at the beginning of sentencesFull stops at the end of sentencesFinger spaces between words

English Lesson 3 13th May2020Learning Intention: To write my own version of a narrative Success Criteria: I can write parts of a story I can use a range of adjective I can use a range of verbs

Writing Your Own Story!Yesterday you retold the story of Beegu in your own words. Do you remember you wrote about what happened in the beginning, middle, and end and what the problem was? Well, today it is your turn to write the beginning your own story! First, have a look back at last week’s work where you created your own alien. This is the alien you will write about in your own story today. Remember, you wrote about what your alien looked like using adjectives and how your alien moved using verbs. You will need to include these in your story. In the beginning of the Beegu story, Beegu landed on Earth in a spaceship.

Page 11: Click on the link below and complete fastjamesthegreat.southwark.sch.uk/.../2020/05/Year-1-Sum…  · Web viewHave a look at Bert’s bricks below. Each brick has a different letter

Where will your alien land?

Here is an example of the beginning of my story:Slive was a cuddly, spotty alien who came from the planet Bizz.

One day, his spaceship crash landed in the school playground! He was lost. He was not supposed to be here.

Slive got out of his spaceship and wriggled slowly across the floor.

Can you see that I have described my alien using adjectives? I have also used a verb to describe how my alien moves.

So, now it’s your turn! Get started on writing the beginning of your own story about the alien that you created. You can also draw a picture to go with it. Remember to use your phonic sound mat to help you with spelling and the tricky words on the back. Also, don’t forget to use:

Capital letters at the beginning of sentencesFull stops at the end of sentencesFinger spaces between words

Please only write the beginning of your story today as tomorrow you will write the middle.

Page 12: Click on the link below and complete fastjamesthegreat.southwark.sch.uk/.../2020/05/Year-1-Sum…  · Web viewHave a look at Bert’s bricks below. Each brick has a different letter

English Lesson 4 14th May2020Learning Intention: To write my own version of a narrative Success Criteria: I can write parts of a story I can say how a character feels I can use words ending with adjacent consonants

Writing Your Own Story! The middle of the storyCan you remember what happens to Beegu in the middle of the story? What problems does Beegu face? Have a look at the pictures below to remind you.

Page 13: Click on the link below and complete fastjamesthegreat.southwark.sch.uk/.../2020/05/Year-1-Sum…  · Web viewHave a look at Bert’s bricks below. Each brick has a different letter

In the middle of the Beegu story Beegu tries to talk to people but no one understands her because she speaks in nonsense words and sounds. This makes Beegu feel lonely because she has no friends.Beegu tries to make friends but no one wants her. Beegu feels very sad and alone. So, now it’s your turn to write the middle of your own story about your alien. Here is an example of the middle of my story:Slive wriggled over to some children in the playground and tried to speak to them. Slive said “Buzz, Buzz, Buzz”. But the children couldn’t understand Slive, so they walked away. This made Slive feel sad and lonely. Slive wanted to make friends. So, Slive left the playground and met some birds. Slive tried to talk the birds and said “Bliff, Bliff, Bliff.” However, the birds didn’t understand and flew away. Again, Slive felt lonely as he had no one to talk to.

Page 14: Click on the link below and complete fastjamesthegreat.southwark.sch.uk/.../2020/05/Year-1-Sum…  · Web viewHave a look at Bert’s bricks below. Each brick has a different letter

As you can see I have written about my alien Slive and the problems he faced. What problems will your alien face? How will they feel? Who will they try and talk to? What nonsense words will they say? In my story I used the nonsense words from Monday’s lesson, remember they end in two consonants? Please use the nonsense words that you created in Monday’s lesson when writing about what your alien says. You can also draw a picture to go with your work. Remember to use your phonic sound mat to help you with spelling and the tricky words on the back. Also, don’t forget to use: Capital letters at the beginning of sentences Full stops at the end of sentences Finger spaces between wordsPlease only write the middle of your story today as tomorrow you will write the end.

English Lesson 5 15th May2020Learning Intention: To write my own version of a narrativeSuccess Criteria: I can write parts of a storyI can write a question I can use a question markI can use the ‘wh’ grapheme

Writing Your Own Story! The end of the storyCan you remember what happened to Beegu at the end of the story?

That’s right! Her parent’s come back to Earth to collect her! So, now it’s your turn to write the end of your own story about your alien.

Page 15: Click on the link below and complete fastjamesthegreat.southwark.sch.uk/.../2020/05/Year-1-Sum…  · Web viewHave a look at Bert’s bricks below. Each brick has a different letter

Here is an example of the end of my story:Slive was all alone and feeling sad. But then he heard a sound! ‘What could it be?’ He thought. Slive hoped it was his parents.

Slive fell asleep on the cold, dark playground floor. While Slive slept a spaceship flew over his head. This woke Slive up. The spaceship sucked Slive up with a whoosh!

Slive was back inside his spaceship with his parents! Beegu felt very happy. Slive told his parents about the children and birds he had met in the playground. He told them how sad and lonely he had been and his parents gave him a big hug. Finally, Slive’s parents took him back to their planet where they lived happily ever after!

Can you see that I included a question in my story ending? Please include a question in your story ending too. Use the Talk to the Hand (below) to help you think of how to start your question using a word beginning with the ‘wh’ grapheme: Why? When? Where? What? Who? Remember to use a question mark at the end of your question!

Remember, please don’t copy my story ending- write your own! You can also draw a picture to go with your work. Remember to use your phonic sound mat to help you with spelling and the tricky words on the back. Also, don’t forget to use: Capital letters at the beginning of sentences Full stops at the end of sentences Finger spaces between words

RE Reconciliation Tuesday 12th May 2020

God helps us to be kind.

Think about the stories of Levi and Zacchaeus that we studied in previous RE lessons. Do you think they found it easy to change their ways to be sorry? It is not easy to do this by ourselves, but God is there to help us, just as Jesus helped Levi and Zacchaeus.

Isaiah wrote about God’s forgiveness, even before Jesus came to earth. He makes it clear what good choices we need to make to be kind and make ourselves and others happy. Read God’s promise below:

Page 17: Click on the link below and complete fastjamesthegreat.southwark.sch.uk/.../2020/05/Year-1-Sum…  · Web viewHave a look at Bert’s bricks below. Each brick has a different letter

Questions to discuss with a parent:

1) What is God’s promise?2) How do you think people feel when they hear Isaiah’s words?3) What kind things does Isaiah suggest that we do?4) Can you think of any other kind things to do?5) What would the world be like if everyone followed Isaiah’s advice?

RE Reconciliation Friday 15th May 2020

Re-read God’s promise below:

Choose one of the ideas from God’s promise and make a promise card, explaining in words and pictures how you will act on this promise.

Click below and sing The Song of Sounds and do the actions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UQHdBMLk-M

Now have a look at your phonic mat and practice writing all the sounds, show this to someone at home. Today we are going to try to read and write some harder words with four phonemes (sounds).

Page 29: Click on the link below and complete fastjamesthegreat.southwark.sch.uk/.../2020/05/Year-1-Sum…  · Web viewHave a look at Bert’s bricks below. Each brick has a different letter

Have a look at this word:

paintWrite it out and put the sound buttons underneath the sounds. Don’t forget ‘ai’ makes the same sound as ‘ay’ (write a long sound button for this as above). Now practise reading this word.

Now do the same thing for these words:

toast first storm fright crowdfloat prawn spoil cloud

Now we are going to practise writing some words with four sounds or more in them. You will need your phonics sound mat to help you. Remember to say each sound as you write it. Write it out and put the sound buttons underneath the sounds. Don’t forget to write a long sound button for two letters that make one sound as above. Write the words to match the pictures below:

What kind of shops? Are there any leisure facilities like cinemas, libraries or leisure centres?

Our School Do you know where our school is? Do you know our school address? An address contains the number of the house, name of the road, and name of the town where a person lives or works, and where letters can be sent. Every building has an address. You need to know the address to find the building. You find addresses on letters so that the postman knows where to deliver his letters. Next time a letter comes through your door ask your parents if you can have a look at it. Can you find your address?Writing an Address

If you want to send a letter to someone in the post you have to write their name and address clearly on the envelope. Then you must put a stamp on the envelope or postcard you are sending. The postal worker will read the name and address you write, to find the person you are sending it to. Here is our school address:

St James the Great R C Primary School Peckham Rd, Peckham, London SE15 5LP

Finally, click on the link below to see a map of London. If you click on the map it will get bigger. Can you find Peckham on this map?
