This summer, Reach Inc. clients made the most of the season with a variety of vacations. Jenny, Stewart, Mitch, and Amanda went for a day trip adventure in and around Yellowstone National Park. The agenda included lunch in West Yellowstone, sightseeing in the park, catching an Old Faithful eruption, and winding down with dinner and a soak at Chico Hot Springs.

Scott, Cory, Stacy, and Shyla spent a night in Helena. While there, the group rode the carousel, checked out the walking mall, and had a great tour on the Last Chance Gulch trolley train.

Martin, Alex, Larry, Damon, Mike, MJ, Jeremy, and Larry visited the Old Prison Museum in Deer Lodge before heading to a relaxing vacation home on Echo Lake for four days. The group participated in many activities, such as a guided boat tour around Wild Horse Island on Flathead Lake, a stop at the Amazing Fun center for miniature golf as well as a ride in the bumper boats, and fishing. In the evening, they returned to the cabin where they rested in the porch chairs, relaxed in the hammock, or sat on the dock to watch the sun set.

In June, Cori, Lonnie, Brandon, Ada, Holly, Suzan, and John went to Fairmont Hot Springs to play miniature golf, eat out, and explore the area. They fed the animals, soaked in the pool, and some folks courageously tried the water slide. In September they traveled to a KOA near Livingston for a cabin campout. It was a beautiful trip, filled with exploration, peaceful time sitting by the river, and cooking over the fire.

The North 3rd group home planned a series of interesting day trips. They went to Virginia City and Nevada City, where they checked out the music hall and had homemade ice cream at the Creamery. The group also took in an exhibit at the Museum of the Rockies about the history of chocolate. They went to Butte for a tour of the Mining Museum as well as the Old West town. Finally, everyone enjoyed an excursion to Helena and the Gates of the Mountains, stopping for lunch before taking a scenic ride on a tour boat.

The Cedarview group home went up to Hyalite Canyon for a lively day of riding four-wheelers and a picnic with housemates, family, and friends.

We at Reach Inc. will fondly remember these experiences, and look forward to the opportunities for fun and discovery this fall.

Summer Vacations

Greenway Apartment Complex / HOME Program Grant UpdateReach Inc. was thrilled to learn that we have been approved to receive a $750,000 HOME program grant towards the construction of the Greenway Apartment Complex. This new residence will replace the South 15th Apartment Complex, providing much needed updates, and allowing us to expand residential supports to two additional people.

This is particularly exciting, as there are ninety-one adults with disabilities on the waiting list for services in the Bozeman area. Additionally, unlike the current apartments at South 15th, the Greenway Apartment Complex will be accessible.

The clients have expressed their excitement about being one step closer to moving in to their new home. We would like to thank all those who have donated to this project, especially our major donors, Tim and Mary Barnard/Barnard Construction, Ressler Motors, and Imerys Talc.

Reach Inc. is proud to report an 85% community employment rate for the people we serve. Nationally, the community employment rate is typically around 18%. This success is a reflection of the hard work of our clients and staff, as well as the partnership and support of local businesses.

One such employer is The Ridge Athletic Club. Since 1998, Holly has worked at The Ridge, helping to keep the treadmills clean. Holly, her supervisor, and the Assistant General Manager at The Ridge were kind enough to share their thoughts with our newsletter.

Reach Newsletter question for Holly: What type of work do

you do at The Ridge? Holly: I clean all the equipment. I do it really fast. Marci (Reach Inc. Work Services Specialist) comes and sees me once a week. It’s fun every day.

Reach Newsletter question for Holly: What do you enjoy about

your work? Holly: I like it. I’ve got a system going. I want to keep that job. I talk to everyone when I’m done working, and I work out after work. Eddie is nice. He’s my boss.

Reach Newsletter question for The Ridge: How has your

experience been working with Reach Inc.?

Holly’s Supervisor, Eddie Davila: It has been great, very seamless. It’s a nice relationship with open communication.

Assistant General Manager, Rayna Stewart: Being an active participant with Reach, the employees we have had over the years have served our organization well. The relationships we have created are invaluable. We have overall gained better skills in communication, empathy, and compassion. Without everyone on our team we would not be able to serve our members and patrons at the level we are able to day in and day out.

Rob’s 30th Anniversary CelebrationRob Tallon marked his 30th anniversary as the Executive Director of Reach Inc. on August 19th, 2015. To honor Rob’s tremendous work and leadership, we celebrated with a barbeque on a beautiful summer day. This evening was lovely, filled with good food, conversation, and live music by Dennis Erickson.

Thank you Rob, for all that you do to promote the independence and empowerment of adults with developmental disabilities.

Many Reach Inc. clients, staff, Board members, and supporters came to celebrate Rob’s 30th Anniversary. Above: Adam, Sharon, and Rob catch up at the barbeque.
