MESSAGE FROM TOWN SUPERVISOR PHIL BARRETT: The Town of Clifton Park assumed operational responsibility of the Shenendehowa Adult Community Center on the morning of December 17, 2016. The Shenendehowa Senior Citizens Inc. Board of Directors officially contacted my office on December 16 th stating the organization could no longer operate the Center. The Town Board did not want the Center to close for even one minute and we immediately implemented necessary measures to ensure scheduled activities, programs and classes continued as planned. In the following weeks, we have been working hard to assemble a master schedule, contact all class and activity instructors, assess the vendors of the facility, coordinate with partners that assist in providing services, gain access to important information vital to operating the Center among many other necessary tasks. The new official name of the facility is The Clifton Park Senior Community Center. The Town Board has also established a lower membership fee of $15 per person annually. I have had the pleasure of speaking with many people that frequent the Center. Your view of the past and present operation of the facility has been very helpful as we plan for the future. I also want to thank the many people offering to volunteer on behalf of the Center. Each day has been a learning experience and we are implementing effective systems to ensure the operational integrity of the Center now and into the future. Many people have told me the newsletter is very important to them and we have quickly completed the first version of 2017. The newsletter will continue to be provided monthly as a means of communicating directly with the members of the Center. The website operated under the name Shenendehowa Adult Community Center is invalid. The Towns website address is www.cliftonpark.org. We are currently building a new website that will be unveiled soon. Informational updates about the Center will be provided on the Towns website. We are currently working toward reinstating programs that were formerly held at the Center, assessing new activities for 2017 and changing the structure of some of the classes. We will announce all new information in the newsletter, postings on the Town website and on the bulletin boards in the Center. The Town Board appreciates all of the volunteers and partners that work on behalf of the Center.
