Determining factors for the execution were the continuation of patient care in the adjacent hospital building and the minimization of emissions through selecting suitable production methods using ultra-modern machinery. Excavation and lining works of the 120 m x 220 m building pit were commenced on the plot of the former patients garden in May 2012. A soldier pile lining made up of double U profiles and timber infill panels, as well as up to 23 metre long grouted anchors in order to secure the up to 15 metre high lining wall were executed. In the areas where the building pit is directly adjacent to the existing buildings of the women's clinic and the neonatal department, underpinning using the jet grouting method was planned and executed. The design collaboration with the representatives of the client led to a smooth construction process even with the continued planning of the future hospital building. It was possible to hand over the building pit for the subsequent works on time and at the agreed quality standard.
