Summer, Spring, Winter, Fall. An entire year of the CLLD program is behind us. Happy Anniversary!
We are eager to celebrate this milestone with you, so please save the date: April 23! We have so much
to be thankful for and so much to look forward to.
The Staff and Advisory Council have been busy working to assure that the requirements of the CLLD
grant are adhered to, while trying to meet the suggestions and requests of the CLLD participants. The
committees meet regularly and are an active part of the program. At the suggestion of the Fitness and
Wellness Committee, we are experimenting this coming session with open enrollment in all fitness classes.
We hope that this will allow more participants to take advantage of programs that are so essential to
our health. Thursday evening events and off site trips continue their success as fee based programs.
Some of the most popular classes are being repeated and expanded. Working together, we are exceeding
expectations and thank each and every one of you.
We also would like to remind every one that the voluntary contributions are what helps us move forward
with the quality, quantity and flexibility of the classes offered. Your continued support will assure that
this program moves forward and becomes more successful each session.

Celebrating the 1st CLLD Anniversary at
the Joan and Alan Bernikow Jewish Community Center
For those of you who have been part of CLLD since its beginning last spring, you have had many
opportunities to learn about all the myriad programs that the JCC offers its members. As a CLLD
member, whether you use the pool for a water aerobics class, "trek" through our Fitness Center or enjoy
dinner and then dance to the music of Frank Sinatra, you know that our modern facility is easy to
navigate and our staff is welcoming and eager to help.
If you would like to have full access to all the JCC has to offer seven days a week any time of day, stop
by the Membership Office and speak to Jill Gottlieb, our JCC Membership Director. She'll be happy to
explain your options and the benefits of becoming a platinum member at the JCC which include full use
of health and fitness facilities. Our Fitness Center boasts top-of-the-line equipment, trained and certified
staff and over 60 free weekly group exercise classes. We have an exquisite indoor pool and whirlpool
which is an excellent environment for training and rehabilitation. And our Summer Swim Club, which
opens Memorial Day weekend, provides a vacation environment right here on Staten Island.

Social Service Programs at the JCC
The JCC functions as a human services agency committed to enhancing the physical, intellectual and
spiritual wellness of the individual, family and community. We provide health, cultural and educational
programs that serve the community at large, with special attention given to populations at risk. Among
the many programs the JCC administers are Case Management Services, which provide older home-
bound adults and their families a case manager to help navigate the maze of services to develop indi-
vidual care plans. We also offer Caregiver Services for adults caring for elderly spouses and parents
with physical or cognitive disorders as well as a program for Grandparents as Caregivers. Our Kosher
Meals on Wheels program delivers meals to the elderly homebound while providing vital help and
contact to these isolated individuals.
In addition to all these DFTA supported programs, the JCC provides services and programs for
over 30,000 individuals and supports over 600 young families on Staten Island with day care, after-
school care, tutoring and related services.
