CLOSING STATEMENT & KSSNYCORGANIZING COMMITTEE MEMBERS
the end the beginning
CLOSINGWhen Psy's "Gangnam Style" took the world by storm, all Koreans had one thing in mind: We've had Psy all these years and only now the world is catching up to K-Pop!
Similar things could be said about Korean tech startups. Before Facebook, Korea had Cyworld. Before WhatsApp, Korea had KakaoTalk. Before Spotify, Twitch, and Google search engine, Korea had Bugs Music, AfreecaTV and Naver, respectively.
With President Park's Creative Economy initiatives, Korea's startup ecosystem has revived and its entrepreneurial spirit has taken a new turn. Google's first campus in Asia opened in Seoul just this month and Israel's largest VC fund Yozma Group chose Seoul as its first Asia office in 2014. Also, if you didn't know already, Bloomberg Business chose Korea as the world's most innovative country for 2 years in a row!
With such strong backings from the government and private sector, hundreds of inspired yet disciplined Korean founders are taking their products, technologies, and businesses to the world stage. New York is becoming one of the hubs for the gathering of the best and brightest Korean entrepreneurs.
The Korean Startup Showcase NYC is only a beginning. KOTRA, KSE, World-OKTA NY, and GORI hope to continue to host these events in the future and provide a platform for those daring entrepreneurs to present the next big thing. Now it's New York's turn to catch up to them! Thank you all for coming!
