When walking through any village in America one may discover on at least one end of the town the dirty, neglected, overcrowded tenements or hovels where the poor abide. In leaky roofed shacks with torn, dingy shreds of wall paper hanging from water stained walls, the beaten, helpless children huddle with pinched and hungry faces around the evening’s scanty offerings. It is ironic that modern man has developed his technology to the point where he could relieve virtually all of such unnecessary suffering, but has not developed his social conscience to the point that he is moved to do so. Man must develop a concern for his fellow man.
