introducing

Because in modern l i fe we get a lot of aler ts through sound and sight we have become accustom to them. Sight and sound are also the two senses that are easiest to ignore and take no not ice of. So Waf t aims to br ing aler ts back to prompting you more because smell is one of the hardest things to ignore.

the logic behind Waft

Waft is a new system that helps you to never miss out on impor tant information, messages, experiences or talk ing topics from your onl ine social media by giving you a computing experience l ike no other.

Waf t takes aler ts, messages, pictures, comments, statuses, tweets, l inks, videos and turns them into smells.

Waf t determines dif ferent aler ts from your social media, email, personal messages or tex ts that you would par t icular ly have an interest in and por trays them through smell. creat ing a custom hierarchy that is ever changing and evolving.

Waf t creates interest ing not iceable message aler ts custom to specif ic i tems so the aler t relates direct ly to the content. this could be the person i ts from, the locat ion, topic, images, words used any thing that may have a connect ion to the physical world.

Waf t also creates the abi l i ty for you to send and receive smells, along with l inking smells to images, posts, l inks, comments, videos or emails over the internet or mobile devices.

What the Waft does

there are two types of Waf t. one type that would stay in a f ixed locat ion l ike on a work desk, your room or of f ice.

the other would be a kind of mobile phone cover that could give of f smells. So you could st i l l get waf t aler ts wherever you go.

one appl icat ion where the Waf t may be par t icular ly useful is in i ts possibi l i ty to help with disabled people. People who are deaf or bl ind rely heavi ly on other senses, so being able to use smell would be a good way to ease the burden on sight or hearing for these disabled people in everyday l i fe.

By working out impor tant people who send you emails of ten, looking at the topics and seeing i f there is any reply of messages as a pr ior i ty. this means that waf t can determine in several ways i f a message is wor thy of a waf t aler t or i f you don’ t have interest in the message.

Message you have no immediate need to look at or need to know about.

Smart smells

the waf t can look through your fr iends statuses and comments to f ind tr igger words that have a connect ion to smell. then uses smar t pre captured smells to give a custom aler t for the message.

Waf t wi l l determine the popular i ty of a post and conver t that to the amount of waf ts you get. So as more people interact with a comment topic or status you wil l get more Waf ts.

Waft Frequency

Because you may get several messages that are impor tant or of interest to you at once. Waf t works on the simple basis of the more aler ts you get the more waf t of smells you get at an increased potency within the set t imeframe.

Waft can work out what t ime and the day of the week i t is. then wil l change hierarchy of waf ts accordingly.

For instance Monday-Friday 9am-5pm during working hours Business | Personal Messages | Facebook | twiter| Mobile | images.

Monday-Friday 5pm-11pm Saturday and Sunday 9am-11pm Personal Messages | Facebook | twiter | Mobile | images | Business.

if you keep visi t ing a specif ic locat ion waf t wi l l recognise this and try to f ind out what i t is. By searching dif ferent check- in’s, twit ter posts and facebook pictures waf t can determine that this is a pub.

the app on your phone would automatical ly pick up smells, i t wi l l f ind the average smell at any locat ion around the world.

Waf t wi l l then process this for your aler ts. i f a topic, image, l ink, comment, tweet or message is determined to be about a pub i t wi l l give of f this smar t smell.

like cameras with gPS abi l i ty some cameras wil l have the abi l i ty to detect the smell in the environment when an image is taken.

Waf t looks for and keeps this information when people upload images to the internet bui lding up a data base with smell at locat ions and smells connected to specif ic imagery.

custom Smell for images Waft can also determine the main focuses of an image and then relate that to a custom smell for that image. Meaning no one image would ever smell exact ly the same.

Sending Wafts Waft also al lows you to send, receive, tag smells to pictures, comments, l inks or posts. this al lows you and fr iends to interact with smell in a new way. For instance when your fr iends vis i t the countryside they may send you the smell of fresh air when you are confined to an of fice space giving you an insight to there day and making you change your habit potentially in this case making you want to vis i t an open space.
