Introduction The software-‐defined wide area network (SD-‐WAN) is a specific application of software-‐defined networking (SDN) technology applied to WAN connections, which are used to connect enterprise networks – including branch offices and data centers – over large geographic distances. SD-‐WANs are being used to modernize today’s enterprise networks to interconnect corporate headquarter, branch offices, and data centers. It also provides fast and reliable access to public clouds, SaaS and Internet applications all over the world. The cost savings when replacing MPLS and other private circuit networks is staggering.
