National Nutrition Month is an annual campaign created by the American Dietetic Association. It focuses on the importance of making better food choices and developing sound eating and physi-cal activity habits.
Before you eat, think about what goes on your plate---or cup or bowl. Foods like vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low-fat dairy, and lean protein foods contain the nutrients that you need with-out too many calories. By learning to select foods that are low in calories, high in fiber, low-fat and lean can help you to maintain a healthy lifestyle and your weight over the course of your life span.
Along with good nutritional habits, physical activity is important too. Picking activities you like and doing what you can will help you to enjoy being physically active. Start with doing activities for 10 minutes at a time throughout the day. You can begin to increase that time as your body will allow. Every bit adds up, and health benefits increase as you spend more time being active.
Check out www.choosemyplate.gov for more information on fruits and vegetables, MyPlate and physical activity.
