Specific competences: speaking, listening, reading, writingObjectives: Students will be able to:- prounance the letters of the alphabet; spell their names;-to familiarize with the new topic; to consolidate and improve their vocabulary-give example of the words that begin with different letters of the alphabet;-improve their listening/speaking skills;-ask for and give names and addresses;-cooperate in a playful way;Visual aids and materials: textbook, computer, handouts, blackboard, chalk, markers, realia.Teaching Strategies and Techniques: dialogue, explanation, discussion, brainstorming, exercise, discovery techniques, individual work and pair work.Anticipated problems: Students dont have a solid enough vocabulary in order to express themselves freely in other language. Students may feel a bit awkward about expressing ideas, so the teacher should raise their interest, keep their attention and encourage them to speak.

Development of the Lesson:1. Lead in:

Form of interaction: Student-teacher, student-studentAim: To create a welcoming atmosphere in the class and to involve the students into the lesson.Procedure: Teacher greets the class, asks a few general questions about the students mood, feelings, expectations from class, asks for the absentees etc. - Homework checking- students report about their homework. If any, the teacher will check and correct the possible mistakes.Time: 5 minutes

1. Warm up:

Form of interaction: Frontal work, student-teacherAim: To introduce the topic of the new lesson and raise their interest.Procedure: The teacher will write the letters of the alphabet on the board and elicite the names of the letters from the Sts. Then she will classify the letters according to the sounds, so Sts can remember them easily. She will arrange the letters in columns like these:1. A /ei/: h, j, k2. B /i:/ : c, d, e, g, p, t, v3. F /e/: l, m, n, s, x, z4. I /ai/: y5. O /au/6. Q /u:/: u, w7. R /a:/ After that, she will play the video, pausing after each letter for Sts to repeat.Time: 10 minutes

The students will see a song with the letters of the alphabet and a short conversation between Nelly and her puppet. After that, they will see another song entitle Jolly song A-Z. The sts have to pay attention to the words that begin with each letter of the alphabet. Time: 8 minutes 4. Post watching: Activity 1. Form of interaction: Student-teacher Aim: To familiarize students with new topic After listening the first song the sts have to sing the Abc song and spell their names. After listening the second song the sts will recive handouts with the Abc flashcards and they have to identify other examples. Time: 5min Activity 2. Form of interaction: student-teacher; student-student Aim: To consolidate the new topic and improve their vocabulary Procedure: a) The sts have to write the name of : a football team, a computer game, a country. The teacher will elicit another example of each. Sts have to think of one more example individually in each category and to write them down.b) Sts have to spell the names for their partner to guess. Partners most not write the letters down. They score two points if they get the name right first time, but only one point if they ask you to repeat it.A: Whats this football team? R-E-A-L M-A-D-R-I-DB: I know. Its Real Madrid.A: Ok. Two points. Whats this computer game? M-O-R-T-A-L K-O-M-B-A-T.B: Can you spell it again, please? Time: 7 minutesActivity 3: CommunicationForm of interaction: T-S; Ss-SsAim: to give your name and addressProcedure: The teacher will choose a student to read the exchanges aloud with.Whats your surname?CressonCan you spell that, please?C-R-E- double S-O-NWhats your address?Its 55 Church Road, Brighton, Sussex.Whats your postcode?BN2 5BL. After that the teacher will explain about the address and postcode. Background notes- The teacher will point out that, in British address, the number is given before the name of the street e.g. 20 Southey Road. Each small district has its own postcode which is written after the name of the town or city, e.g. London N15 5LH.Also, Surname: last name or family name; Postcode: In the USA the postcode is called the zip code, eg. CA 10053 is a Californian zip code. Sts copy the day-pass(from earlier in this unit) into their notebooks. Sts work in pairs with the conversation and complete a day-pass for each other.Time:7 minFollow-up: Extra-activity: Game-HangmanForm of interaction: T-Ss;Ss-TAim: to cooperate with the class in a playful wayProcedure: The teacher will choose a word but she dont tell the class what it is. She will draw the following diagram on the boars with as many dashes as there are letters in the choosen word.

The class has to guess the letters and fill in correct letters. If a student calls out a letter which occurs twice in the word, the teacher must write down both letters in the correct spaces. If the class give a wrong letter, the T will put it on the board, cross it out and add part of a stick figure in her drawing. The class will win if they complete the word before the T complete the drawing. If a student guesses the word, he/she draws the next word on the board.Time:5min
