1 INTRODUCTIONClubObjectives

“Boating”meansallsportactivitybutprimarilyinrelationtosailing,powerboating,rowingandassociatedwatersports.

BriefHistoryRoyalTayYachtClub(RTYC)wasfoundedin1885asTayCorinthianYachtClubandreceiveditsRoyalCharterfromHRHQueenVictoriain1891whereuponthenamewaschanged.Fromtheoutset,thestationfortheClub’sactivitieshasbeenGrassyBeachandin1889aclubhousewasbuilt. Thisbuilding isstill inuseandisknownastheBeachClubhouse. In1955,FortWilliamHouseat34DundeeRoadwasacquiredandsincethenithasservedtheClubwellasitsheadquarters. Ithasbeenthepolicyof theClub todevelop its facilitiesandwhereverpossiblelandandbuildingshavebeenacquiredsothattheClubownsallthatituses.VolunteersThroughoutitshistoryRTYChasbeenreliantonthemanyvolunteerswhogiveuptheirtimefreelytoruntheClub’saffairs.Whilesomeofthevolunteershaveofficialpositions,therearemanyotherswhoprovideserviceswhichensurethattheClubcontinuestooperateandtothrive.It isaveryimportantpartoftheClubethosthatitremainsessentiallya“self-help”organisation.Thisessentialvolunteerbaseensuresfinancialviabilityandthegreatstrengththat can only come frommembers working together with common aims. Members areencouragedtoassistinanyway,therebycontributingoveralltotheClub’ssuccessbutatthesametimegainingsatisfactionandpossiblylearningsomenewskills.2 CLUBSTRUCTURE,MEMBERSHIPCATEGORIES,MANAGEMENTSTRUCTUREClubStructureForthefirst131years,theClubwasconstitutedasanunincorporatedassociationwherebytheofficersandmemberswereguaranteeingitsliabilitiesonanunlimitedbasis.In2016,theClubwas incorporated asRoyal Tay YachtClub Limited, a company limitedby guarantee,wherebytheliabilityofClubMembersisrestrictedto£1each.MembershipCategoriesThereare3principalcategoriesofmembership,“Club”Membershipforthosewishingtotakepartorbeassociatedwiththeactivitiesandhaveuseofallthefacilities,“Social”MembershipforthosewishingtouseonlythesocialfacilitiesandCadetMembershipforyoungermembersin the age range of 7 to 17 inclusive. ClubMembers have full voting rights and are theguarantorsoftheClub(upto£1permember).ManagementStructureTheClub is governedoverall byDirectors. Amaximumof 10 are elected annually at theAnnualGeneralMeeting.Fourofthisnumberareelectedintomoreexecutiverolestorunthedaytodayintereststhroughtwocommitteeswithdelegatedpowers.TheCommodoreandVice-Commodoreheadup the SportsCommittee to run the sports interests, and theConvenerandVice-Convenerheadup theManagementCommittee to run thenon-sportsinterestsegadministration,membership,social,properties.TheSportsCommitteeandtheManagementCommitteemeetmonthlyon the firstMondayof themonth. TheDirectorsmeetaminimumof6timesinayearandgenerallymeetonthesecondMondayofalternatemonths.AposterwiththecurrentDirectors,officialsandmembersoftheSportsandManagementCommitteesisdisplayedontheprincipalnoticeboardwithinthemainclubhouse.

3 CLUBSTAFFANDCATERINGClubStaffThe Club employs a number of full time and part time staff largely tomanage themainclubhouseandfacilitiesandtocarryoutadministration.MandyGordonistheClubManagerandAlisonWhyteistheAssistantClubManager.TheClubManager,AssistantManagerandStaffareexcellentpointsofcontactformostClubmattersandiftheycannothelpamemberdirectlycandirectthemtotheappropriateperson.ClubCateringThe catering in the main clubhouse is contracted to Claymore Catering Limited whoseprincipalisMichaelPenny.Lunchtimecateringisprovidedon5daysintheweek,TuesdaytoSaturday,1230to2pmSundayhighteas430pmto7pmOnthe2ndSundayofeachmonththereisacarveryinsteadofhightea.ThecatererprovidescateringatallClubfunctionsandeveningdiningisprovidedoncertainspecifiedoccasions.Bookingisessentialforalloccasionsotherthanlunchtimealthoughthisisrecommendedforlargerparties.Atlunchtime,forthosewithrestrictedavailabletimefoodcanbepre-ordered.Cateringcanbeprovidedforprivatefunctionsorbyspecialarrangementforpartiesof8andover.TheClub isnot responsible for foodandall charges for foodmustbepaiddirectly to thecaterer.BeachClubhouseCateringThisisanexcellentserviceprovidedbymembervolunteersduringvarioussportingfixtures.Allmembersareencouragedtoenjoythefineselectionofhotandcoldsnacksandbeveragesandtojoininthefunwhetherparticipatinginthefixtureornot.Throughtheeffortsofthevolunteersaverywelcomedonationismadetotheclubfundseachyear.4 RULES,HEALTH&SAFETY,PROTECTIONOFVULNERABLEGROUPSClubRulesThroughmembership,MembersacceptthattheymustabidebytherulesoftheClub.FormalandlessformalruleshavebeenestablishedtoensuretheaffairsoftheClubareconductedinafairandprofessionalmanner.Theformalrulesareintwoparts:

ForthosewithoutthenecessaryfacilitiesprintedcopiescanbeprovidedonrequestfromtheClubManager.HealthandSafety(informationtobepublishedonwebsite)TheClubregardsthehealthandsafetyofitsmembers,staff,visitors,contactorsandmembersofthepublicasatoppriority.AHealthandSafetyStatementhasbeenissuedanddisplayed.Training is provided where required. Principal activities have been risk assessed andprocedures have been put in place to minimise risk. Members are asked to familiarisethemselveswiththevariousproceduresandriskassessmentsandhaveadutyto:
(i) Takereasonablecarefortheirownhealthandsafetyandthatofotherswhomaybeaffectedbywhattheydoordonotdo.
(ii) Co-operatewiththeClubonhealthandsafetyissues.(iii) CorrectlyuseallequipmentprovidedbytheClub.(iv) Notinterferewithormisuseanythingprovidedforhealth,safetyandwelfare.
Membersareencouragedtodrawattentiontoanypracticethatisdeemedtobeunsafeornotinaccordancewithrequirements.SafeguardingChildrenandProtectedAdultsThere is a published Policy for Safeguarding Children and Protected Adultshttp://www.royaltay.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/1.-RTYC-Child-Protection-Policy.pdf It is a requirementofallinvolvedwithtrainingandworkingwithchildrenandprotectedgroupstobefamiliarwiththepolicy,adopttheguidelinesandmeetthestandards. Equally it isgoodpracticeforallmemberstohaveanunderstandingofthepolicyandguidelinesasthiswillhelppromotethenecessarystandardsthroughouttheClub.5 ALCOHOLLICENCE,GUESTS LicencedPremisesThemainclubhouseislicensedtosellalcoholicbeverages.Staff,membersandtheirguestsarerequiredtomeettherulesandregulationsrelatingtheretoandfailuretodosocanleadtoprosecutionand indeed lossofthe licence. Asaconditionofthe licenceonlyalcoholicbeveragesprovidedbytheClubcanbeconsumedonthepremises.Membersareaskedtonotethatthepremisesincludeallpartsofthebuildingandthegarden.GuestsMembersareencouragedtobringfriendsandfamilytotheClub.Undertherequirementsofouralcohollicence,guestsinthemainclubhousemustberegisteredintheappropriatebook.Eachmembermaysigninupto4guestsatanyonetime.AmemberisresponsibleforthebehaviourofguestsandensuringthattheycomplywiththerulesoftheClub.

GoodNeighbourPracticeAtalltimestheClubencouragesagoodneighbourpractice.Thiscoversthesensiblebehaviourtowardsourneighbours,thepublicandothersusingthesameoradjoiningfacilities.ParkingonDundeeRoadandElliesleaRoad,keepingthenoisetoaminimum,notimpedingothersonthebeachwalkwayor inStVincentStreetattheHarbourShedarekeyareaswhereextraconsiderationisrequired.AnimalsWith the exception of guide dogs, animals are not permitted in the Clubhouse or BeachClubhouse.However,theyarepermittedinthegardenandbeachenclosuresprovidingtheyarenotallowedtoroamfree.6 FACILITIESANDEQUIPMENTMainClubhouse FortWilliamHouse 34DundeeRoad BroughtyFerry DundeeDD51LX Tel01382477516

Members areencouragedtoenjoytheirclubhouseatanytimeduringthedayandevening.

MainChangingRoomsTheseareavailableforuseatalltimesbymembers.Accesstotheouterdoorisviatheclubkey.Theseparatemaleandfemalechangingandshoweringareasareaccessedviakeypad.Theaccesscodescanbeobtainedfromstafforfromofficials.GardenandVerandaMembersareencouragedtousethegardenandverandawhenevertheywishunlesstheyhavebeenreservedforaprivatefunction.Membersarerequiredtoobservethelicensingrequirements regarding the consumption of alcohol and to follow the “GoodNeighbour”practicebykeepingnoisetoreasonablelevels.Theplayingofamplifiedmusicinthemainclubgardenisgenerallynotpermissibleunderthetermsofourlicence.AccesstoBeachLaneandthefootbridgetothebeachisviathegateatthebottomofthegarden.Thegateshouldbeclosedafteruse.Thereisakeypadonthegateandtheaccesscodeisavailablefromstaff/officials.BeachClubhouse,ThebeachpremisesarecoveredbyCCTV.Accessisopentoallmembersatalltimesandisviaaclubkey.Membersshouldensurethatallpremisesarelockedwhenunattendedandthatallelectricalappliances,lightsandtapshavebeenswitchedoff.The Beach Clubhouse is an excellent sitting area inside and outside on a nicer day andmembersareencouragedtomakefulluseofit.Itistheoriginalclubhouseandisinfacta“B”Listedbuilding.ItisaVictoriansportspavilionandisfairlyuniqueasitisownedandstillinusebythesameorganisationforthesamepurpose.There isa tea/coffee facility togetherwithmicrowaveoven for theuseofmembersatalltimes. Thetea/coffeefacility isonanhonestybasis. Membersareaskedtoensuretheymaketheappropriatedonationasthisensuresthecontinuanceofthisexcellentfacility.Thewell-equipped,BeachClubhousegalleyisusedforofficialeventsatwhichbeachcateringisprovided.Thiscateringiscarriedoutbyvolunteers.Whilethegalleyisnotlocked,onlyauthorisedpersonsshouldaccessit.Thisistoensurecompliancewithhealthandhygienestandards.MembersmakinguseoftheBeachClubhouseareaskedtoensuretheyleaveitalwaysinacleanandtidycondition.Outofrespectforotherusersitshouldnotbeusedtoleavegearorasachangingfacility. Amopisavailableforthefloorbutthisshouldberinsedout intheexternaljanitor’ssinkandnotinthegalley.TheextensiverefurbishmentoftheBeachClubhousewasfundedbyTaySailTrainingSCIOandpartof thetermsof this fundingwasthat itwouldbeusedasashorebasedtrainingfacility. TheapplicationshouldbetotheSportsCommittee.No5/6Shedisprincipallyusedforthestorageofinflatabletenders.MembersshouldenquireabouttheavailabilityofspacetotheBeachConveneroramemberofstaff.BoatParksTheBoatParksareaccessedviatheclubkey.Stancesareallocatedforboatsandtrailersandanannualchargeispayable.Memberswishingtostoreavesselintheparksshouldcompletethenecessaryapplicationformandmakepayment.Astancewillthenbeallocated.Membersare asked not tomove their boats to other stanceswithout prior agreement. Membersshouldensuretheirboatsaretieddownafterusetoensurethattheyaresecureinhighwindsbothtoavoiddamagetotheirownboatsandothermembers’boatsbutalsotoensurethatnothingisblownontotherailwaywheretheconsequencescouldbeveryserious.Washdownfacilitiesareavailablebutmembersareaskedtominimisewaterwastageandalwaysensuretapsareswitchedoffafteruse.Theparkgatesshouldalwaysbelockedwhenunattended.TheBro’tyBoathouseThisbuildingisownedbyTaySailTrainingSCIOandservesastheheadquartersfortheClub’straining activity. Access is restricted to the training officials and also to thosemembersparticipatingincoastalrowing.Thetrainingboats,gearandequipmentareonlyavailableforuseinorganisedsessionsandwithprioragreement.
TheFerryBoathouseThisbuildingisownedbyTaySailTrainingSCIOandservesasthebaseforonthewatersafety.It isusedtostoreandmaintainsafetyboatsandequipment. Access isrestrictedtothosemembers participating in the operation of the safety boats. New participants are verywelcome.

TheHarbourShedThesesubstantialpremisesareusedforthestorageoftheClub’smooringsvesselandtractorandforthestorageofmembers’boats.AccessisrestrictedtoMembersoperatingthefacilityand those storing their boats. Access is via a club key and an additional security key.Memberswishingtostoretheirboatsinthecoveredaccommodationshouldcompletethenecessaryapplicationform.Spaceisallocatedasavailable.8 OperatingSectionswithinRTYCThevarioussectionsthatareactiveintheClubhavetheirowncontactarrangementsoftenvia email or Facebook groups to communicate information, encourage participation andexchangeideas.Ifyouwishtobeinvolvedwithanyparticulargroupthenpleasecontactthesectionleader.ContactdetailsforeachofthemareavailablefromClubstaff.DinghySection~ledbytheDinghyCaptain.Thesectionistopromotedinghyandcatamaransailing which includes recreational sailing and competition. There is a comprehensiveprogrammeofTuesdayeveningracing,SundayracingintheSpringSeries,AutumnSeriesandtheWinterSeries,variousregattasandtrophyracesheldatweekends.Inaddition,thereareregularsailingsessionsonmostSaturdaysfromApriltoSeptemberaswellasonanumberofSundaysandThursdayevenings.AnoffshootofthissectionistheCatamaranSailorswhoareveryactiveinpromotingsailingwithtwohullsratherthanone.
Keelboat Section ~ led by the Keel Captain. This section promotes keelboat sailing andarrangesanumberoftrophyracesatweekendsaswellasaseriesofracesheldonTuesdayafternoons.Ofequalimportancearetheregularmustersandsailingincompanyarrangedthroughoutthesummer.

SquibSection~ ledby theSquibCaptain. TheSquibsectionoffers regulareveningpointsracing, throughout the principal season and competition in various regattas. Squibs alsoparticipateintheafternoonracingseries.AnumberofsessionstopromoteSquibsailingarealsoprovided.
Rowing Section ~ led by the Rowing Captain and committee. This section operates asBroughtyFerryBoatinginrecognitionofthelongestablishedrowingclubwhichbecamepartofRoyalTayYachtClub.TherowingsectionconcentratesonStAylescoastalrowingskiffsandoperatestwobeautifulwoodenskiffswhichwerebuiltbyRTYCmembers.Thesectionisvery active with many participants also taking part in sailing. Coastal rowing is lesscomplicatedthansailingandappealstothosewhowanttoenjoybeingoutonthewaterandtakingpartinarecreationalsportwithotherlike-mindedpeople.Coastalrowingtakesplacethroughouttheyearoneverydayoftheweek.Manyparticipantstakepartincompetitionsbothathomeandatothervenues.
SafetyBoatSection~ledbytheSafetyBoatOfficer.Thisisadedicatedgroupofmemberswhopreferpowerboatingandperformtheessentialrolesofmaintainingthesafetyboatsandmanningthemduringorganisedsailingandrowingevents.Aswellasprovidingsafetycovertheylaytheracingmarksforcourses.Duringkeelboateventstheteamalsoprovideaferryingservice forparticipants. Anyone interested inbecomingpartof the safetyboat teamwillreceivetraining.

CadetSection~ledbytheCadetOfficer,RTYChaslongrunasailingforitsCadetmembers.The Cadetsmeet everyWednesday evening fromApril until September for on thewatertraining sessions. Winter shore based sessions are also run on a number ofWednesdayevenings.ThehighlightoftheCadetcalendarisundoubtedlyCadetWeekwhichis5fulldaysofsailingandfun.CadetsareencouragedtotakepartinotherClubeventswithanumberalsotravellingtovariousvenuestoparticipateinthedevelopmentsquadsrunbytheRYA,thegoverningbodyforsailing.Duetothehighnumberofyoungparticipantsinsailingthereisaveryhighnumberofvolunteersrequired,drawnfromClubMembersandparentstoprovideallthenecessaryinstruction,safety,supervisionandsupport.
Dads’Army~ledbytheirownCaptainMainwaring,thisisagroupofClubMemberswhomeeteveryThursdaymorningandcarryoutmanymaintenanceandothertasksonClubpremisesandequipment.The“troops”arefrequentlydeployedintheHarbourShed,mainclubhouseandbeachpremises. This is a great cluband community success storywith itsmembersperformingveryusefulworkandsavingtheClubalotofmoney.Thereisagreatteamspiritwiththemandatorycoffeebreakbeingahighlighteachday.ThehighlightoftheyearistheChristmasluncheon.

RTYCiscommittedtoprovidingtrainingandin2003setupitsowntrainingorganisationwithcharitablestatus.TaySailTrainingSCIO(ScottishCharitableIncorporatedOrganisation)isaseparatelegalentitybutiseffectivelycontrolledbyRTYCmemberswhoareresponsibleforappointingthetrustees.TSTrunssailtrainingforadultsandthetrainingfortheCadetSectionoftheClub.ItalsorunspowerboattrainingcoursesandsetupandoverseesthetrainingputinplacefortheRowingSection.ItsinstructorsandhelpersaremainlyClubMemberswhoprovidetheirtimeonavoluntarybasis.Thesailingandpowerboatinstructorsarequalified.Oneofthebenefitsofoperatingthetrainingthroughacharityisthattherehasbeenaccesstofundswhichhaveprovidedanimpressivefleetoftrainingboats,safetyboats,rowingskiffs,boathousesandequipmentaswellasfundingthedevelopmentoftheBeachClubhouseandthebeachchangingandtoiletfacilities.

Overthewinterperiodthereisaconsiderableamountoftrainingtakingplace.Muchofthisisconductedinthetrainingroominthemainclubhouse.CadetsreceiveregularsessionsonWednesdays.Inhousecoursesarerunforadultsoveraseriesofeveningsonawidevarietyoftopicswhilemoreformalcoursesarerunatweekends.ForfurtherinformationoncoursesrefertotheNewsletterorcontacttraining@taysail.org.RoyalYachtingAssociation(RYA)/RegisteredTrainingCentreRYAisthegoverningbodyforsailingandpowerboatingintheUKanditsgoodpracticeandcertificatesawardedarerecognisedinternationally.RTYCisanaffiliatememberofRYAandpaysasignificantsubscriptioneachyeartobeso.RTYCinconjunctionwithTSTisregisteredas a RYA Training Centre and as such is able to teach various RYA courses and awardcertificates. The Club invests a lot of time to meet RYA Training Centre accreditationstandards and is subject to a comprehensive annual inspection of its facilities, boats andequipment,teachingstandardsandrecords.RTYCisalsorecognisedbyRYAasaChampionClub,astatusawardedtosomeClubsintheUKwhich invest time and resources in developing youth sailing along the RYA “Pathway”standardsofachievement.AtpresentScottishCoastalRowingAssociation(SCRA) is theresponsiblebodyforScottishcoastal rowing and theClub is amemberof this body. While SCRAhas developed somestandards,RTYC/TSThaveintroducedandapplytrainingstandardsinamannermoreinlinewithRYAstandardsandmethods.10 SportsProgrammeThisispublishedannuallyandcoversthecomprehensiveorganisedcompetitions,eventsandotheractivitiesarrangedfromApriluntilDecembereachyear.OtheractivitiesarearrangedbythevarioussectionsoftheClubegdinghy,keelboat,SquibandrowingandmembersareadvisedoftheseeitherviatheClubNewsletterorbydirectcontactfromtheClassCaptains.TheSportsProgrammeisdesignedtotryandprovideopportunitiesforalltoenjoythewatersoftheTaytothefullinawaywhichsuitsthembest.Competition ~ For the dinghy/ catamaran sailor, annually, the Club runs a Spring Series,AutumnSeriesandaWinterSeries,allheldonSundays,regularTuesdayeveningpointsracingoverthreeseries,onedayandtwodayregattasattheweekendplusanumberofothertrophyraces.

FortheSquibopenkeelboatsailor there isaregulareveningpointsseriesthroughoutthemainseasongenerallyheldonTuesdayandThursdayeveningsinalternateweeks(onfloodtides),plustheonedayandtwodayregattas.ForthekeelboatsailorthereisanumberofSundaytrophyracesandaTuesdayafternoonseries(alsoopentoSquibs).Fortherower,thereisanannualregattaheldathomeplustheopportunitytoparticipateinregattasatothervenues.RecreationalTheprogrammeequallysupportsthemoresocialsideofoursports.For dinghy/ catamaran, Squib and keelboat sailors, regular sailing sessions are scheduledeverySaturdayatnoon,manyThursday(ClubSailingEvenings)andanumberofSundays(GoSailing).Forrowersthereareregular“ShowandRow”sessionsonSaturdays,SundaysandThursdayeveningsplusthemanyadhocsessionsarrangedbyparticipants.TrainingSessionsTheCadetSectionmeetseveryWednesdayeveningfrommidApriltomidSeptemberplusthereisanorganised5daysofactivityinCadetWeekheldinthesummerholidays.Cadetsareencouragedtojoinintherestoftheprogrammetoo.For adult sailors and powerboaters formal training courses are run at various times andinformalsessionsareprovidedonanadhocbasis.Forrowers,regulartrainingsessionsareorganised.11 SOCIALPROGRAMMETheSocialCommitteemeetsregularlytoprovideavariedsocialprogramme.Socialeventsare publicised in the clubhouse, via the newsletter and in various communications tomembers.Bookingisrequiredforsocialeventsandpaymentisrequiredpriortothestart.Tworegulareventsare:QuizNights~thereisaverypopularmonthlyquiznightheldonthelastFridayofeachmonth.Teamsofupto4personsparticipate.ClubFridays~onthefirstFridayineverymonththebarisopenfrom530pmuntil11pm.Thisisanightwhenmemberscancomealongandenjoytheirclubhouse,knowingthattherewillbe othermembers present. Barmeals are available to encouragemembers tomake anoccasionofit.Itisagreatopportunityfornewermemberstomeetandgettoknowothers.

PrivateFunctionsThemainclubhousefacilitiesareoftenusedforprivatefunctionsandmeetings(inmanycasesfor members). In almost all situations alternative arrangements are made available forMemberssothattheycancontinuetousetheclubhouse.Thehostingofprivatefunctionsisnecessary tobring incometohelpmaintainourexcellentclubhouse facility.Membersareencouragedtousetheclubhouseforprivatefunctionsandanyenquiriesshouldbedirectedtothestaff.12 ALBABEERFESTIVALAn annual Beer Festival is run usually over the last weekend in August. This is a highlysuccessfulfundraisingeventwhichisrunbytheClubthroughtheBeerfestCommittee.AlbaBeerfestisawell-establishedandpopulareventwithticketsbeingsoldoutverysoonafterbecomingavailable.TheeventisagreatshowcasefortheClub’ssocialfacilities.Ticketsareofferedtomembers initiallybeforegoingonsaletothegeneralpublic. AlbaBeerfesthasraisedmoneyforanumberofcharities,includingTaySailTrainingSCIOaswellasprovidingaconsiderableboosttotheClub’sownfunds.13 The200CLUBThishasbeenrunningformanyyearsandforamonthlydonationof£5,membersparticipateinamonthlylotterydrawforcashprizesof£25,£50and£100.Tobecomeamemberofthe200ClubcontacttheClubManager.The200Clubannuallyraisessome£2,500forClubfunds.14 PUBLICITYANDCOMMUNICATIONSThe Club endeavours to communicate with theMembership asmuch as possible and tominimisepostagecoststhisiscarriedoutelectronicallywhereveritcanbe.Ifamemberdoesnot have access to emails and social media then they are asked to register for postalcommunications.The regular ClubNewsletter is informativeonClubmatters across the spectrumcoveringsportsactivity,socialactivityandlotsofotherinformation.Itisalsoentertaininginthestylethatitisproducedandmembersareencouragedtoensurethattheyreceivethisandreadit.Feedbackisalwayswelcomeaswellasanynewsitemsforfutureeditions.TheClubwebsiteisagreatfundofinformationandthereisanongoingprogrammetokeepthissiteuptodateadfresh.Onthewebsite,variousimportantdocumentscanbeaccessedanddownloadedegArticlesofAssociation,Bye-Laws,HealthandSafetyPolicy,ProtectionofVulnerable Groups Policy and good practice, application procedures for membership,moorings, lockers,boatparks,HarbourShed,currentsportsprogrammeandcurrentsailinginstructions.TheClub’sFacebookpageisincreasinglypopularandagainisanimportantsourceofcurrentinformation.TheCadetSectionoperatesitsownFacebookpage.ThissiteisonlyopentoCadets,parentsandhelpers.PleaseapplytotheCadetOfficerforaccesstothissite.The Rowing Section also operates its own Facebook page which keeps all the rowingparticipantsuptodate.

17 MEMBERSHIPCHARGESSubscriptionsandChargesAnannualsubscriptionispayablebyallmembersaccordingtothecategoryofmembership.Thesubscriptionyearrunsfrom1Septemberto31Augustinthefollowingyear.Priortothestartofthenewsubscriptionyearmembersaresentarenewalnotice.If a Member does not receive a Notice of Renewal then they are asked to contact theMembershipSecretarydirectlyASAPornotifyamemberofstaffforonwardtransmission.It is hoped thatMemberswill not only want to renew their subscriptions but will do sopromptly,therebyavoidingtheconsiderableadditionalworkinsendingoutreminders.ShouldaMembernolongerwishtocontinuethentheyareaskedtonotifytheirresignationratherthanallowingmembershiptolapse.Whereverpossiblemembersareencouragedtosettletheirsubscriptionbyelectronicbanktransfer,ideallybyauthorisingtheagents“Webcollect”tocollectthenecessaryamountfromtheiraccount.Areceiptwillbeissued.OtherChargesTheClubendeavourstokeepitssubscriptionsatanaffordablelevel.Inordertodothis,itisthepracticetochargemembersfortheuseofcertainfacilitiessothatthecostsarebeingborne by the direct users. UndertheVATrulessomeoftheClub’sactivitiesareclassifiedasexemptsuchassubscriptionincomeforactiveparticipants,HarbourShed,Boatparkandlockerrent,racefees. AsaconsequenceofthepartialexemptionofincomefromVAT,onlyaproportionofVATborneonexpendituremaybeoffsetagainsttheVATliabilityresultinginafairlysubstantialamountofVATbeingnon-recoverableeachyear.Eachyearuponrenewaloftheirsubscriptions,MembersareaskedtodeclarewhetherornottheyareactiveintheClub.BybeingactiveanddeclaringsotheVATliabilityoftheClubisminimised.
