Freediving compe-titor, Fred Buyle broke many world records in different free diving disciplines from 1995 to 2004.

After the race to records, Fred Buyle then concentrated himself on the art of photography (a passion inherited from his great-grandfather) and underwater video with a peculiarity: all pictures are taken in apnea . This feature owes him an international reputation in the world of apnea, the greatest champions having been photographed or filmed by Fred Buyle.

Concerned by conservation issues for many years, in 2005 Fred Buyle started to work with marine biologists, assisting them in their field work. He uses his freediving abilities to approach the animals and perform tasks such as acoustic and satellite tagging or DNA sampling.

A lifelong native of Costa Rica, Randall

Ortega Chaves has spent most of his 30 years in constant fascination with the diverse ecosystems of his

tropical homeland. Randall is a specialist in bird photography and currently the owner and lead guide for Costa Rica Birding Journeys, a small eco travel and birding expedition company in Costa Rica. Although he is experienced in all areas of natural history, Randall’s personal specialty and passion leans towards serious birding groups. For the past four years, Randall has worked for the national park

systems, guiding birding and natural history groups, educa-ting visitors, and contributing to bird life research,

specifically at Carara National Park . Randall’s knowledge of birds is vast, but small in

comparison to his enthusiasm and excitement to always

learn more about them.

Bernard Fontanille is an emer-gency doctor in Chamonix

(french Alps), accustomed to interventions in difficult ter-

rain. Sensitive and passionate, he travels the world for various medical missions, whether it is to supervise teams or to treat

others, protect them and relieve their pain. His curiosity and his humanity guide his approach,

his need to experiment, his desire to discover others.

Also attracted by the world of cinema documentary and

writing, he co-wrote the book «Besides Medicines» (2014)

which illuminates traditional and ancestral medicines, as

well as the universal link that unites a patient and his caregi-ver. This book accompanies the eponymous documentary series broadcast on Arte in which each

program invites to discover a country, a doctor and a way of

treating.

DAY 3GULF OF CHIRIqUI: There are dozens of islands in this Gulf. The region contains one of the largest coral reefs in the Pacific and one of Central America’s richest mangrove forests.

Team: botanist Marc Jeanson. Ornithologist Randall Ortega.

PUNTA BURICA: Very wild piece of land separeting Panama from Costa Rica.

GOLFITO: Welcome to Costa Rica! Golfito is located on Costa Rica’s South Pacific coast, about 340 highway kilometers from San José. This small port city is a narrow strip along Golfito Bay backed against steep green hills covered with pristine rain-forest. This is the starting point of a navigation in one of the wildest part of Costa Rica.

Team: Marc Jeanson, Randall Ortega

DAY 4GULF OF DULCE: Wild, scenic and incredibly bio-diverse, this is the perfect place to catch butterflies by night with an entomologist.

Team: Randall Ortega and an entomologist

CORCOvADO NATIONAL PARK: The crown jewel of Costa Rica’s national park system, Corcovado National Park, is comprised of an enormous 103.290 acres of tropical rainforest. The largest of Costa Rica’s parks, it encompasses about a third of the Osa Peninsula and embraces an unbelievable amount of its biodiversity. Corcovado is home to 500 species of trees, making up one quarter of the tree species in Costa Rica. There are 6,000 species of insects, 140 species of mammals, almost 400 species of birds, 116 species of amphibians and reptiles and 40 species of fish. Some of the most frequently viewed wildlife includes jaguars, four species of sea turtles, anteaters, 220 species of butterflies, sloths, crocodiles, poison-arrow frogs, several species of monkeys, and, with luck, maybe even a tapir. All of the four species of turtles-olive Ridley, leatherback, hawksbill and Pacific green-are known to lay their eggs along the sandy coastal shores.

DAY 5CORCOvADO NATIONAL PARK: Another day in this amazing park to discover more spe-cies.

Team: Marc Jeanson, Randall Ortega

DRAKE BAY: Discovered by Sir Francis Drake during his travels around the world in the 16th century, Drake Bay packs natural beauty that has stood the test of time. It’s a spot well pro-tected from the large pacific waves. A kayak exploration would be possible on the nice Rio Aguajitas.

Team: Fred Buyle, Céline Cousteau, Randall Ortega

DAY 6CANO ISLAND: One of the best destination for free diving. The island is surrounded by five platforms of low coral reefs with many coral species. The coral reef environments are home to many different species of fish, e.g. parrot fish, Moorish Idol, Crocodile Needlefish, Guinea Fowl Puffer, Cornet fish and schools of Jack Fish, to name a few), and other aquatic animals such as sea turtles, sting rays, morays and white tip sharks.

The island’s waters explode with life including innumerable white tip reef sharks, schooling hammerheads, dolphins, mantas and marbled rays, giant moray eels, sailfish, and of course the occasional whale shark. DAY 7/8/9DEEP SEE SUBMARINE EXPERIENCE:

Have you ever wondered what lies within the dark Abyss? Since the first deep ocean explorations, venturing to these depths was reserved for a very few privileged scientists and military personnel. At Undersea Hunter, they are actively involved in extending that list of the fortunate few.

The DeepSee is a custom-built one-atmosphere submarine, capable of carrying a pilot and two passengers to a depth of 1,500 feet (450 meters). She is a flexible, capable and masterfully designed vehicle that can agilely operate throughout her range in comfort and safety.

The view from DeepSee’s acrylic sphere is unparalleled, with a 360-degree field of vision. The 4-inch thick acrylic sphere actually disappears when immersed, giving the astonishing sensation of total freedom.

Two dives a day (morning and afternoon).
