Whitby Mental Health Centre, with 325 beds, offers specialized, regional psychiatric in-patient and outpatient

services to area residents. Construction of the new 483,000 square-foot facility was completed in September

1996, and established a milestone in the history of mental health care in Canada. This modern structure

assists patients recovery and return to family and community living by emphasizing patient/consumer choice,

quality care and community support and treatment. The complex and its programs complement community

mental health services and acute care provided by local general hospitals.
