The Calumet Memorial Park District is governed by five elected officials who set the policy for the district’s operation.The commissioners are elected to staggered six-year terms and serve without compensation.

The board meets the third Wednesday of each month, 7:00 PM at the Wilhelm Business Office, 626 Wentworth Ave.Committee meetings are held the first and third Wednesdays of each month, 6:30 PM at the same location.

Residents are invited to attend the meetings.

HISTORYThe Calumet Memorial Park District was established in 1922 as a separategoverning agency for the purpose of providing programs and facilities thatare of a quality that will enhance an individual’s physical and emotionalhealth, cultural and intellectual development and fulfill a social need. TheCMPD is responsible for the maintenance, operation and administration ofparks and facilities under its jurisdiction.

MISSION STATEMENTThe Calumet Memorial Park District strives to offer quality recreational, cul-tural and educational programming, which is cost effective for the commu-nity and inclusive to all. Through a well-trained, educated and empoweredworkforce, we aim to provide absolute customer service, a safe environ-ment and superior parks and recreational facilities.

BOUNDARIESPark District boundaries encompass the communities of Calumet City andBurnham, as well as the eastern portions of Dolton and South Holland. Ingeneral, the boundaries are areas south of 138th St., north of the LittleCalumet River/ 170th St., west of State Line Rd. and east of the BishopFord Freeway.

It is the goal of the Calumet MemorialPark District to provide safe and enjoyablerecreational activities for all, regardless ofage, race, creed, marital status, physical/mental limitations, orientation or gender. It isthe intention of the district to develop, plan,implement and administer a comprehensiveloss prevention program. Public and staffsafety is our greatest responsibility, and in ourassignments the health and safety of all areof the utmost concern. This policy has beenestablished to emphasize that effective lossprevention is an integral part of managementprocedures to fully utilize the district’s capitaland personnel. Although profit is not a districtgoal per se, the same efficiency is desired toensure maximum usage of each tax dollar.

• Think safety first! If you find a piece ofbroken park equipment, please call theBusiness Office so that we can correct anyunsafe conditions.• When visiting a park, please use commoncourtesy for the other participants and neighbors.

• No loitering, profanity or gang activity of anykind is tolerated.• No glass, alcohol, fireworks, golfing orlittering allowed.• Pets must be on a leash at all times andare not permitted in playgrounds, foodareas, walking tracks or ball fields. Pleaseclean up after your pet.• Driving unauthorized motorized vehicles inparks is prohibited.• Parks close at dusk, except for scheduledevening activities. All city, state andfederal laws will be enforced. Personscausing damage will be prosecuted andmade responsible for restitution.• Failure to obey park rules could result insuspension from park property and programs.

The district takes pride in the beauty and safetyof our parks. However, each year our efforts aremarred by vandalism, which takes its toll throughhigher costs of maintenance, repair and clean-up. Residents who observe vandalism are askedto report it immediately.

The CMPD assumes no responsibility forpersonal injury or loss of personal property whileparticipating or attending a district-sponsoredprogram, event or facility. No medical oraccidental insurance is provided.

Reasonable accommodations inrecreation programs and leisure services willbe made for persons who meet the essentialrequirements of that activity. He has also spentthe past 12 years coaching footballfor the South Holland Jets, and has coached baseball for several years as well.What’s more, he has a passion for basketball, and has proudly served as a vol-unteer youth coach whenever duty calls. In short, he is exceptionally qualified toinstruct players.
