1. Introduction This report presents the results of the second photogrammetric MAB calibration campaign in ISR. Altogether 12 MABs have been calibrated before their installation on the MUON barrel. Attention: This report does not contain the calibration results – they can be found

attached in the same document on EDMS. Coordinate results refer to the LTD measurements of February 20-21 2007, see EDMS 822462, 822467 and 822469.

2. Configuration The MAB has been positioned in the center of the MAB calibration bench (DT central bench), the Diagonal bench or the Tilt (sensor – wall-) bench. The MAB reference points and the individual alignment devices have been equipped with photogrammetric targets, and their positions have been measured with respect to each calibration bench.

3. Point Names and Targets – coded targets Coded targets (14bit) have been permanently glued on the walls or concrete blocks in each calibration zone. These coded targets define the first rough coordinate system for the automatic renaming of the non coded targets. In addition they define a reference system to detect possible plate deformations during the calibration campaign. Wall 000: 200-244 (except 224, 226, 235, and 238 which are on mobile plates) Wall 100: 300-343 (except 324, 326, 335, and 336 which are on mobile plates) Wall 200: 100-129 Wall 300: 130-159 Wall 400: 348-383 (Tilt Bench) Wall 500 160-199 & 245-247 (Diagonal Bench) 4. Point Names and Targets Calibration Benches 4.1 Main Calibration Bench Walls 000 and 100 The point names of the LTD measurement and as indicated on the camera plates have been used.

Figure 2: Photogrammetric targets on the camera plates – wall 000 and 100 All reference holes on the fixed plates on wall 000 and 100 have been equipped with 90° targets with an offset of 15mm w.r.t. the contact surface (see Figure 2, left image). All reference holes on the mobile plates on wall 000 and 100 have been equipped with 90° or button targets with an offset of 15mm w.r.t. the contact surface (see Figure 2, right image).

Reference holes on wall 500 have been equipped with 90° targets with an offset of 15mm w.r.t. the contact surface (see Figure 2, left image). Reference holes on the camera plates have not been included in the photogrammetric measurement. These points have been measured by LTD measurements and the link to the photogrammetric measurements is achieved by the reference points on wall 500.

5. Point Names and Targets – MAB points Each MAB is identified in addition to its official MAB name with a retroreflective number. This number is a prefix to all MAB point numbers.

Figure 13: MAB retroreflective identification

5 aluminium blocs have been glued permanently by Gyorgy Bencze on each MAB. These blocs with an 8mm survey reference hole will be used as a permanent survey reference for each MAB. These blocs have not been glued at a precise position, but they will be used as common points during the calibration of each individual MAB and the final measurement of the MAB after installation. Point names: RRR7001 – RRR7005, with RRR = retroreflective MAB number

Noncoded sticker targets have been permanently glued on the MAB for the MAB geometry control at IMMG in Athens. These sticker targets have been measured again during the MAB calibration. These points have not been renumbered as before in the measurements in Athens. Thus these point names are arbitrary and are not listed in the respective reports. One exception is MAB 2_12+ (N°204): The non coded stickers have been renumbered as used before in Athens: Point names: RRR3000 – RRR5900, with RRR = retroreflective MAB number

Altogether 4 different MAB types have been calibrated:

• 4 Left MABs of Passive Planes • 2 Right, mirrored MABs of Passive Planes • 4 Right MABs of Active Planes • 2 Left MABs of Active Planes

7. Coordinate system The coordinates of the LTD measurement of the calibration bench on 20-21 February 2007 have been used as reference (see the reports EDMS 822462, 822467 and 822469 for more information). The photogrammetric MAB measurements have been evaluated in a local coordinate system, and afterwards transformed in the coordinate system of the LTD measurement by a “best fit transformation” (rotation and translation, scale). Only reference points on the fixed plates on wall 000 and 100 have been used as common points during this transformation. The photogrammetric wall 200 and 300 measurements have been evaluated in a local coordinate system, and afterwards transformed in the coordinate system of the LTD measurement by a “best fit transformation” (rotation and translation, scale). Only reference points on the fixed plates on wall 200 and 300 have been used as common points during this transformation. 8. Results The accuracy of the coordinates is 0.1 mm in X-, Y- and Z-direction at a one-sigma level. Attention: This report does not contain the calibration results – they can be found

attached in the same document on EDMS.
