Student Spotlight
On September 17th, CMS students celebrated
Constitution and Citizenship Day. It was over 200
years ago, the United States Constitution was
established as a framework and set of laws for our
new nation, the world’s oldest written plan of
government still in use today.
Principal Williams gets in on the action and
teaches 7th grade students a lesson about the
development of the Constitution.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Please mark your calendar for Wednesday, November 11th for
our 15th Annual Veterans Day Ceremony sponsored by our
Student Government Association. Forms were distributed this
week through all Social Studies classes for those students
whom are interested in inviting a veteran to this year’s ceremony. All completed forms must be returned by September
25th to your child’s Social Studies teacher. Thank you!

Just a friendly reminder, Parent Connect is a wonderful tool to
stay on top of your child’s grades. Please see the attached flyer for directions on how to sign-up. Also, please note it is
recommended that parents email teachers directly from their
email provider instead of from Parent Connect. We do not
always receive the emails from Parent Connect in a timely
manner.

Attention Parents & Guardians
Our school has contracted Lifetouch Photography as our official yearbook
photographer for the 2015/2016 School year. Lifetouch offers a variety of portrait
packages and background styles for your selection. Fall picture day is 9/25/2015during your students math class. Each student has received a picture day order
form. If your child did not receive an order form, additional copies are available in
the school office. In the interest of security, check or money order is the payment
type recommended. Parents preferring to pay with credit card may prepay on line
by visiting MyLifetouch.com. Simply follow the on line instructions for making
credit card payments. If cash is your preferred method of payment, please include
the exact amount in your payment envelope. Photographers will not be able to
open payment envelopes to make change for cash customers. ALL students will
need to be photographed for yearbook and administrative purposes, but only
those submitting a completed order form to the photographer on picture day will
receive a portrait package. Lifetouch Photography can provide additional
information regarding picture day directly to parents and guardians by calling toll

Attention ALL 8th Grade Parents
On October 2nd ALL 8th grade students will be going on a field
trip to the Center of Applied Technology. It is expected that
ALL 8th graders attend this field trip and it is part of the school
counseling essential curriculum. If your child is districted to go
to Arundel High School they will be visiting CAT-NORTH. If you
child is districted to go to South River High School they will be
visiting CAT-SOUTH. Students will be touring the school
facilities and will participate in four different rotations. Please
fill out a permission slip (attached) and return it to Ms.
Worsham in the school counseling office. There in no cost for
this fieldtrip.

Band & Orchestra Families: - Ensemble Auditions are next week during class : C Day - Mon. 9-21 A Day - Tue. 9/22 B Day - Thur. 9/24 If your child is unable to play their audition during class due to illness, physically injury, or being absent from school, please e-mail me or have them speak to me in person so we can create a make-up audition during SOAR. All auditions need to take place no later than Friday, 9/25. All students have been prepped with their audition music. Regardless of how their audition goes, all band & orchestra students will be placed in the appropriate ensemble based on skill and maturity level. - Jazz Band: Rhythm Section auditions will take place next week either during SOAR or afterschool on Tuesday, 9/22 from 3 - 4pm. There will be a sign-up sheet posted in Mrs. Hood's room to claim the audition time that works for your child. Auditions are only necessary for students interested playing piano, or drum set. Jazz Band auditions are only open to students enrolled in one of Mrs. Hood's band, orchestra, or percussion classes. -Ensemble Results & Rehearsal Schedule: Ensemble results will be posted in Mrs. Hood's room no later than Wednesday, September 30th. Rehearsal schedules will be e-mailed to all parents, posted on blackboard, and distributed in class from September 30th - October 2nd. - All - County Orchestra: 6th - 8th Grade Strings Strings students have been informed of a great opportunity to audition for the All-County Orchestra on October 28th. Students compete with other strings students their age for a spot on the orchestra team. There are 5 evening rehearsals and then a concert. Students work with high-end string professionals to improve their musical skills. It also looks great on their resume if they win a spot. Forms have been handed out in class, and will be on Blackboard. - All- State Band & Orchestra: Only 7th - 8th Grade Strings All-State is similar to county, but your child competes against students across the state of Maryland on November 14th. If your child is interested in auditioning, please have them see me for the audition requirements. The requirements are also posted on Blackboard. The following students have signed up: Band - K. To whom it may concern:
Crofton Middle School is equipped with a video camera system. It covers selected interior and
exterior public portions of the building and grounds. It is NOT monitored constantly, but it is
monitored during emergency situations. During certain events, when the safety or security of
students may be in question, authorized personnel from local, state, or federal police or fire
emergency units may be given access to view images projected on the camera system. If you have
any questions about the system, you should call the Supervisor of School Security at 410-222-5083.
