    The UPA government has recently completed its 3rd year in the second

    term. CNN-IBN is interested in conducting an opinion poll in order to

    understand the pulse of the urban mindset, about the current state of

    governance as well as Dr. Manmohan Singhs leadership of the

    coalition-based UPA government.

    The Opinion Poll was conducted in 8 centers:

    Ahmedabad, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Hyderabad andBangalore.

    Among Adult Males and Females.

    Interviews were conducted in street corners and in respondents homes between8th and 10th May, 2012.

    A representative sample ensuring a good spread for age/SEC/gender,

    was taken.

    More than half the respondents not satisfied with the current UPA Government. Level of dissatisfaction high across all centers and across all demographic groups Only exception being Kolkata & Bangalore, where satisfaction with current governance is

    Is the Government losing credibility in the eyes of public?

    Majority of respondents (2/3rd) feel that the Government has lost its credibility to govern, in the

    eyes of public. The above opinion holds true across all centers only exception being Kolkata. True across demographic groups: dissonance marginally higher among younger respondents

    Failure to handle the Anna movement properly and the inability to take bold economic reform

    measures emerging as the two main reasons behind the lowering of credibility of the UPA

    Government Anna Movement issue finds highest mention in North: Lucknow (60%) followed by Delhi (21%) On the issue of Economic Reforms: Highest mentions in West: Ahmedabad (41%) followed by

    Mumbai (26% )

    The above two issues have relatively higher impact in terms of lowering the credibility of the UPA

    Government among the outh 18-25 ears of age

    Performance of UPA Government on Key Issues

    Price rise & worsening of economic conditions are the 2 key areas where the government has

    failed to perform. Above sentiment resonating across all centres and across all demographic groups

    About 4 out of 10 respondents feel that the Governments control over corruption has declined

    further The dissatisfaction with the Government on the issue of tackling corruption highest in Chennai

    and lowest in Kolkata

    Majority of people feel that the threat of Naxal violence has remained the same or declined in

    Kolkata however, satisfaction on this aspect relatively higher vs. other cities

    UPA Governments Handling of Anna Hazare-led Lokpal Bill

    Movement

    The general pulse of the people is that the Anna Hazare Lokpal Bill movement issue was not

    handled properly The dissatisfaction with Government on this aspect has been high across all centers; the only

    exception being Kolkata and Bangalore.

    Most Suitable Candidate within the UPA to be The Prime

    Minister of India

    Rahul Gandhi seems to be the most preferred choice within the current UPA.

    Interestingly, Dr. Singh still continues to be the next preferred option. Preference for Rahul Gandhi relatively higher in Delhi in comparison to other centers.

    Government is not able to satisfactorily deliver on any of the key issues.

    Positive perception about the Governments performance low across all issues.

    Issues related to price rise and corruption rank highest in terms of dissonance causing factors,

    Current UPA Government: Majority of respondents are not satisfied with the Current

    UPA Government across centers. However, Kolkata somewhat mellowed in their

    response. Price rise and inability to tackle corruption are key issues where the Government has

    failed to deliver.

    There is a general perception that the UPA government is being pressurized &

    blackmailed by coalition partners and works under their influence.

    Only 38% respondents feel that the current UPA government should be given another

    chance to govern.

    Image of our Prime Minister: The general perception about Dr. Manmohan Singh is that

    He is a good man with a clean image but lacks the skill to govern effectively. Price rise is

    seen as the biggest failure of the Prime Minister. Majority feel that he should be replaced

    and 33% vote for Rahul Gandhi as his replacement.

    Next President:. Majority (51%) want APJ Abdul Kalam to be the next President of India.

    Performance of Mamata Banarjee: Majority in Kolkata are satisfied with the

    performance of Mamata Banerjee as the Chief Minister of West Bengal, however,

    satisfaction with her government is comparatively lower
