Co-curricular clubs, societies& enrichment
Introduction
There’s a whole range of clubs on offer for 2017-2018. A great emphasis is placed on participating in activities beyond the classroom and we are proud of all we are able to offer at Sydenham High School. With so many clubs and societies to choose from, there really should be something for everyone. Each of these activities will help you to develop your personal, learning and thinking skills, as well as offer you the opportunity to meet new pupils and staff.In this booklet you will see the range of opportunities to choose from so that you can sign up for activities that you would like to take part in. Remember, some of these activities will require you to attend every session, as other people are relying on you, so commitment is key, whilst others may allow for a more ‘drop-in’ approach. For more information on each club, select the activity from the individual Firefly page.
The expectation for years 7 to 9 is that you attend at least two activities per week. In year 10 and above, it remains important to maintain a healthy balance between exam work and relaxation. It is therefore expected that you will continue with at least one per week. Registers will be taken in all of your activities in order to give your Form Tutor, Head of Year and parents an overview of your involvement.

Enrichment opportunities are timetabled for all students in years 7, 8 and 12
The Socrates Programme offers an exciting array of lectures and workshops for our scholars and to any other girls who wish to apply for a place on the programme. These lectures and workshops promote a wide variety of topics, including the environment, the arts and technology. The programme will run during the first two academic terms. The main aim of the programme is to give pupils the opportunity to meet and engage with a variety of leading experts and be inspired to create a final piece reflecting their chosen area of interest, which will be submitted in the Spring Term with a written rationale of no more than 2000 words.
