In all cases the GP, who is the key person in charge of that patient’s care, will be contacted. At all stages we will work in partnership with the community teams and acute hospital services involved in the patient’s care. St Richard’s Hospice Nurse Specialists

Our highly trained Nurse Specialists see patients in their own homes, GP practices and other settings and offer support by telephone. They are trained to restore confidence and control back into the lives of patients and families affected by illness and treatments. Our Nurse Specialists are not ‘Macmillan Nurses’ as they do not receive any funding from Macmillan Cancer Support. However they do the same job in supporting patients and families.

Spreading the knowledge of specialist care out to the community

We pass on our expertise to enhance patient care through our Education and Training Centre. Health Care

professionals, staff from care homes and students are among those who benefit through learning and updating clinical skills. St Richard’s Hospice staff and volunteers receive regular, on-going training.

Spiritual care and chaplaincy

Whatever the philosophy or faith of a patient or family member, the Chaplaincy team offers sensitive and understanding support in many ways.

St Richard’s Hospice Community volunteers

When our patients need that extra hand with everyday tasks at home or would just like some company, our Community Volunteers can help. They are local, caring people who are trained to offer support alongside the hospice teams.

Out patients clinics

St Richard’s has set up Renal, Respiratory, Cardiology and Parkinsons’ Clinics offering medical and emotional support as well as links to other hospice services. Funded by NHS South Worcestershire Clinical Commissioning Group. (SWCCG)

Day Hospice

Patients come to the hospice for a day of support and care. They can see medical and nursing staff, have a whirlpool bath or complementary therapy such as a massage; enjoy lunch, and socialise while carers can also benefit from having some time to themselves.

Triage and on call 24/7

The triage team answer all telephone enquiries, providing immediate advice or quickly directing callers to the most appropriate service and support.

Family Support Team

Our dedicated staff and trained volunteers offer a comprehensive and specialist service to patients and families including counselling, social work and citizen’s advice. They provide support for children and adults through a variety of groups during the daytime and evening. The Team works in the community and the In-patient Unit and also offers pre and post-bereavement support to patients and families.

The In-patient Unit (IPU)

A dedicated and skilled nursing team, who are experts in the field of specialist palliative care, on hand 24 hours a day to manage patients’ symptoms and where, if they so choose, patients may spend the last few days of life in comfort and dignity.

Hospice at Home

Our Hospice at Home team helps patients who wish to stay at home at the end of life and also supports patients and carers with occasional care. Care can be provided both day and night, allowing family members to take some time out knowing that their loved ones will be cared for and looked after. CCCCCO-ORDINATED
