    This two-day, hands-on course will teach you the fundamentals of 2D hydrodynamic modelling and give you an introduction on how to set up a hydrodynamic model using MIKE 21 Flow Model HD and MIKE 21 NHD (Nested) using rectangular grid bathymetry.

    The MIKE 21 Flow Model HD module provides the basis for computations of processes performed in many other modules such as sediment and mud transport, transport of heat and suspended matter, oil spill, agent based modelling and ecology but can also be used as a stand-alone application. The module simulates unsteady flow taking into account bathymetry, sources and external forcing.

    Typical application areas of MIKE 21 Flow Model HD include assessment of hydrographical conditions in nonstratified waters, coastal flooding and storm surge, inland flooding and overland flow, forecast and warning systems.

    This two-day, hands-on course will teach you the fundamentals of wave modelling and give you an introduction to how to set up spectral wave models for various applications using MIKE 21 SW.

    The knowledge of the wave conditions is needed for the design of offshore, coastal and port structures where accurate assessment of wave loads is of outmost importance to the safe and economic design of these structures.

    MIKE 21 SW is used for the assessment of wave climates in offshore and coastal areas. MIKE 21 SW is particularly applicable for simultaneous wave prediction and analysis on regional scale and local scale.     The disturbance inside harbour basins is one of the most important factors when engineers are to select construction sites and determine the optimum harbour layout in relation to predefined criteria for acceptable wave disturbance, ship movements, mooring arrangements and handling down-time.

You will learn how to set up a sand transport model and simulate the sand transport and morphological changes using a coupled setup with flow and wave models. We shall also discuss when to apply a 3D approach

    The sand transport module in MIKE 21 Flow Model HD FM calculates the sediment transport capacity, the initial rates of bed level changes and the morphological changes for noncohesive sediment (sand) due to currents or combined currents/waves.

    This two-day, hands-on course will teach you the fundamentals of fine sediment modelling and give you an introduction on how to set up a transport model using the MIKE 21 and MIKE 3 transport model (TR), the mud transport model (MT) and the particle tracking model (PT). Processes and factors that are decisive for when to apply which model and in which dimension (2D/3D) will be discussed.

    The TR module simulates the spreading and fate of dissolved or suspended substances under the influence of the fluid transport and associated dispersion processes. The MT module calculates the erosion, transport, settling and deposition of cohesive sediment. The PT module calculates the transport path and fate of the individual dissolved and suspended substances discharged or spilled in lakes, estuaries and coastal areas or at the open sea.

    The fate of dispersed fine sediments or dissolved substances is often mentioned in discussions regarding local environmental conditions and sedimentation. A typical application could be the impact of dredging works.

    of the new MIKE 21 FM Shoreline Morphology (MIKE 21 FM SM). The aim is to

    enable you to set up and use the shoreline model in complex coastal projects as

    The traditional numerical tools used for studying coastal morphology include one-

    accurate in these models to allow the models to simulate real long-term evolution.

    The new MIKE 21 Shoreline Morphology combines the detailed 2D sediment

    transport fields from MIKE 21 ST FM with a one-line description for the shoreline

    evolution. This enables long-term prediction of shoreline evolution in cases where

    2D effects are important, e.g. for complex bathymetries or coastal structures.

    This modular, self-paced, online course presents a broad overview of the field of coastal engineering in a number of lectures. First lecture gives a basic course in coastal hydraulics, i.e. waves and currents. Then a lecture focusing on the description of the detailed mechanisms behind sediment transport in the coastal zone is given. Having established the basic process understanding an introduction to different coastal protection schemes is given. In order to quantify the coastal phenomena in real projects, the most used numerical model types are presented in two overview lectures describing the background for numerical modelling as well as the different possible applications. Finally the course is rounded off by a discussion of how to couple the knowledge and modelling capabilities for estimating the impact of climate change on the coast.

    Physical modelling is a recognised and well established technique for hydraulic studies. It bridges the gap between what can be simulated accurately using numerical models and the real world.     When designing coastal, harbour and other marine structures it is a challenge to secure resilience against wind, water and storms as well as long-term stability. The focus is on offshore wind turbine foundations and how to protect against or mitigate the scour formation by applying scour protection systems of, for instance, rock dump or mattresses.     Scour is a well-known issue for hydraulic and marine engineering. Scour occurs when structures are placed on erodible beds and exposed to current and waves. The foundations of e.g. offshore wind turbines are often erected in harsh hydrodynamic environments, exposed to tidal currents and large waves individually or in combination. Therefore, it is essential to have a detailed understanding of how these hydrodynamic environments affects the structure as a whole, including the foundation and the interaction between flow, structure and sea bed to ensure short and long term stability.
