person or group of people. • A Coat of Arms uses symbols that

represent the identity of a person or group.

• They can also tell a story.

Who used them and Why

• Knights used them to distinguish themselves in battle to make their armor and shield stand out. – The design also appeared on their clothing,

banners and flags.

• Kingdoms and countries also used Coats of Arms to distinguish themselves from one another.

Are they still used today

• Yes, many countries around the world have a Coat of Arms, including Romania.

• Even families and corporations still use Coats of Arms as unique symbols that represent who they are!

Arms• Their Coat of Arms represents how they

see Romania and the European Union• The students drew their own Coat of

Arms and wrote in English and Romanian an explanation of what they drew
