Established in 1874, Emilio Hidalgo has been producing elegant, unique Sherries for over 140 years and is still in family hands after 5 generations. Manuel Nieves has been cellar master, or ‘capataz’ for over 50 years, with his son Manuel Jesus Nieves serving as his apprentice and slated to take over his father’s role when he retires. Recently featured on Punch, try the Autumn Cobbler- this signature drink of Chantal Tseng of D.C.’s e Reading Room at Petworth Citizen, made with the Gobernador Oloroso Sherry. • 3 ounces Emilio Hidalgo Gobernador oloroso sherry • 1/2 ounce maple-chai syrup (see Recipe Below) Garnish: persimmon wedge, brandied cherry, mint bouquet, orange zest, grated nutmeg, straw. Directions Combine all ingredients in a Julep cup. Fill the cup with crushed ice. Stir to integrate. Top with additional crushed ice. Add garnishes. Maple-Chai Syrup Stir together 1 part hot Masala Chai tea with 2 parts maple syrup, until the maple syrup dissolves. Allow to chill before using.
