The Purpose of Openings in Film The Opening of a movie is the chance to grab the

audiences attention while setting the tone for the movie. The opening will largely not explain the story or characters, but establish the atmosphere for the movie.

The title sequence is there to show the creative talent that went into the movie. It shows the names of such roles as:

• Director• Screenwriter• Main Cast• Writer• The origins and the origins writer (what it is based off, such as the

book title)• Producer• Publisher• Distributor

Analysis of a Film Opening

‘Zombieland’ follows the codes and conventions of film well. It establishes the location and sets the mood, it then proceeds to flow fluidly into the opening credits where it shows the main cast, the production company, the writer, producer and the director. All while constantly keeping the atmosphere and tone while drawing the audience in to watch the film.
