認可及合格評定服務獲政策制定者廣泛應用藉以作出更有效的監管確保公平交易防止欺詐和提高公眾安全及信任度政府鼓勵私營機構使用合格評定服務以提升服務表現而進行合格評定活動的能力可通過取得認可資格予以核實獲認可的合格評定服務亦有助政府提高服務水平和施政

世界標準日 mdash 標準建立互信

標準以可靠的溝通方式和值得信賴的合作平台把人們聯繫起來人與人的社交互動亦需要一套得到廣泛認同的概念及涵義基準並透過標準向各界傳遞此外一件符合國際標準的產品其品質及安全性都能贏得各地消費者的信心由此可見為使需要共同語言的介面達到一致標準是不可或缺的一環

Quality infrastructure is essential for the effective and efficient functioning of our society A sound quality infrastructure enhances confidence in goods and services fosters innovation and competitiveness and connects people around the world The strengthening of the quality infrastructure is always an important objective for the success of a community

This seminar organised in celebration of the World Metrology Day (WMD) World Accreditation Day (WAD) and World Standards Day (WSD) aims at providing participants with a deeper understanding on how metrology accreditation and standards play a pivotal role in supporting the quality infrastructure This yearrsquos themes for three World Days are

WMD ndash Measurements in a Dynamic World

Metrology is the science of measurement while accurate measurements are the prerequisite for scientific discovery and innovation industrial manufacturing and international trade improving the quality of life and protecting our environment New ideas and development emerge every day in all these aspects It is therefore essential for measurement science to advance rapidly in order to keep pace with the ever-evolving world around us

WAD ndash Accreditation A Global Tool to Support Public Policy

Accreditation and conformity assessments are widely used by policy makers to deliver better regulation ensure fair markets prevent fraud and enhance public safety and trust Government can help improve the performance of private sector by encouraging the use of conformity assessments and accreditation is often relied upon to verify these activities Lastly accredited conformity assessments can also help government improve its own performance and deliver its policies

WSD ndash Standards Build Trust

Standards connect people with reliable modes of communication and trusted frameworks for cooperation Social interaction also relies on fundamental sets of concepts or meanings that people agree on and standards ensure that they are accessible to all Furthermore a product conforming to an international standard is trusted by consumers worldwide for its quality and safety Standards play a critical role in introducing uniformity at interfaces where we need to speak on the same terms
