Our aim is to “Lead the Market”Dear Customer, Partner and other Envirotainer friends,My first six months with the company have now passed and I am getting more and more excited by the day. During this brief period of time I’ve had the opportunity to get to know the business and its people and I am delighted with what I have experienced. Some of you I have met during our Advisory Board meetings, in Sweden and in the USA, which has been very rewarding and insightful. Others I have met during my travels to Singapore, India and the USA, again thanks for hosting me and my team. In addition to this I have met a number of you during our office opening ceremony in Singapore and during the IQPC event in Chicago. It is always a pleasure for me to meet our customers, partners and other Envirotainer friends face-to-face. It is thanks to you that we are able to develop and continuously improve our products and services and thereby “lead the market” into the future.

Now after six months I would like to take a few moments to share my impressions and tell you a bit about our recent achievements as well as our current challenges.

I am impressed by the very high level of competences and skills within Envirotainer and I see this reflected in the high level of engagement from our personnel in the field, with a clear understanding of their contribution to the overall operations. Over the last months, during my travels and in meetings I have also met very satisfied customers and partners. A testimony to that fact is that all of our partner airlines and forwarders have renewed their Master Lease Agreements over the past year. Furthermore, we are pleased to have signed new Master Lease Agreements with more than a dozen new partner airlines and forwarders in 2012, including for example Asiana in Korea and Singapore Airlines in Singapore. Aer Lingus and Lufthansa are

other examples of business relations that have progressed and expanded over the past year. Only this year we have released 220 new containers to the market – that means our entire fleet is more than ten times bigger than those of any of our competitors.

However, our aim is not to be the market leader, but to “lead the market” – answering needs in active cold chain management wherever in the world they may be. The market leading position will just be a consequence of this. Asia Pacific is a fast developing market with a growing demand for active containers and Singapore has become an important biopharma, medical, and logistics hub in the region. We already have sales activities

and partners in India, South Korea, and Japan and even to a certain extent in China. Our opening of a sales office in Singapore in September was an important step towards establishing a substantial footprint in this fast-growing region; a growth that we intend to not only partake in, but actively drive as part of our long-term approach and high ambitions for our Asian operations. Europe is our largest market, accounting for half of our revenue, America is the second biggest, and Asia Pacific is now next. Following the company’s progress and the geographical expansion, I am pleased to welcome several new employees to the new Asia Pacific office and on top of this I would like to welcome two newly appointed colleagues, one in Shanghai, China and one in Seoul, South Korea. We have also continued to strengthen the company in terms of key recruitments throughout the whole organisation, supporting continuous strong growth. In July 2013, we will move our headquarters from Lagga to an area closer to

Stockholm. We have not yet finalised the planning, but the new buildings will include purpose-built production and R&D facilities, and allow room for Envirotainer’s rapid expansion and the associated additional employees.

In the meanwhile, the FAA certification process remains a high priority in line with our continuous development focus. We are currently conducting additional tests and collecting complementary data, while conducting an active dialogue with the FAA regarding an approval.

Furthermore we have initiated a project together with Airbus and other industry players to complete and compare existing data with measurements from mock-up settings. The aim of this project is to find and suggest routines for impartial measurements that could form a basis for future general and design-independent standards, something which would benefit the industry as a whole.

All in all it’s been a progressive six months and we’re ready to face the years to come with all the challenges and opportunities that await us. I would like to conclude by emphasising how excited I am to be leading a business that thinks as much about tomorrow as it does about today. I can easily see why Envirotainer was able to pioneer the first active temperature-controlled air freight container and how we are going to aid and serve our customers in the years ahead.

Envirotainer has appointed Suat Toh as Head of Healthcare Sales for Asia Pacific, based in Singapore. Further new appointments in the Asia Pacific region include Theng Hui Low, Jeff Su, Michael Park, Jonathon Haydn-Evans (start date: January 7th, 2013), Paul Seet and Sunny Jaggi.

Suat Toh said: “The Asian market is maturing. Today, production of advanced medicine, vaccine, blood plasma and so forth is growing in the Asian countries. Previously it was more generics and transported by sea freight or using general cargo. Now, these manufacturers are coming to the next step in their evolution, with new needs and demands and we need to make sure that these potential customers are aware of what Envirotainer can offer and they are in a position to access it easily and quickly. The vast geographical area of Asia Pacific means that air transport is even more important because most of the time trucking is not an option. We will be demonstrating how our active solution helps healthcare manufacturers meet the most stringent quality requirements.”

The inaugural customer event in Singapore also included presentations by Envirotainer specialists on cold chain regulatory challenges, collaboration & post shipment analysis as well as shipment qualification processes. Envirotainer partners also took the opportunity to showcase their latest cold chain management solutions.

In the last three months, Envirotainer has attended events to increase awareness of its temperature-controlled containers and cold chain services in North and Latin America.

These were the IQPC 10th Annual Cold Chain & Temperature Control Global Forum in Chicago, Latin American Supply Chain Expo 2012 in San Juan, and IQPC Pharma Logistics & Cold Chain 2012 in São Paulo.

The IQPC event in Chicago is the largest cold chain pharma show in the Americas and this year attracted a record audience of over 600 delegates. Previously held in Philadelphia, the relocation of the event in its 10th year helped to bring in additional participants from the Central and Western regions of the U.S.

As before, a number of Envirotainer’s partners also exhibited at the event, notably

American Airlines, United Airlines, UTi, FedEx, UPS, World Courier, DHL, Air Canada, Kuehne + Nagel, and British Airways.

At the event, Envirotainer gave a presentation on its Post Shipment Analysis (Shipment Summary, Transport Evaluation and Active Container Data services) during the Technology Demo Drive. This was a new event added by IQPC this year that dedicated time for exhibitors to show off some of their products. Envirotainer also participated in a panel discussion on ‘Partner Provider Collaboration’.

Other topics discussed during the forum were multi-party communication, cost analysis, Cold chain strategy for emerging markets with a focus day on Latin America, carbon footprint/green, track & trace, and regulatory constraints.

During the event, United Airlines invited some of the delegates to tour its Chicago hub, where the audience observed a live loading of one of Envirotainer’s RAP t2 containers.

The Beginning The relationship ignited in 2001 as Envirotainer developed a cold chain packaging solution together with Lufthansa Cargo. At the time, DHL was launching its sector strategy and wanted to align with leading providers of cold chain transport to the pharma industry, which was a challenging task back then when only a handful of airlines had defined cold chain products and none among U.S. carriers. Together, Envirotainer and DHL collaborated

on identifying industry needs and demands, carrying out pilot projects, and supporting the solution by developing processes that would benefit both enterprises. The key catalyst to the partnership can be attributed primarily to customers who expressed a need to move 2-8°C products that were emerging in the market and required a high degree of temperature control handling.

The Journey

Qualifying a shipping solution for pharma products used to be a lengthy process but Envirotainer’s Technology Transfer Package (TTP) offers the perfect solution.

It provides customers with the information required to qualify Envirotainer containers such as the RKN e1 or RAP e2 for temperature-sensitive product shipments. The information is mainly needed during qualification but also to collect knowledge on use and operation of the container.

Climate product reports on its latest initiative to protect the quality of medicine

The pharmaceutical quality of medicinal products is of utmost importance to patient health and outcome: poor quality can lead to adverse effects - which can sometimes be severe enough to lead to morbidity and death, as well as treatment failure and hence, prolonged illness, lack of trust in the healthcare system, distributor and manufacturer, and a waste of financial resources.

What is a quality medicine? High quality medicines comply with official standards for strength, purity, identity, efficacy, packaging and labelling. They are safe, free from contamination and protected against temperature extremes and tampering from the point of manufacture, throughout the distribution chain and eventual administration to the patient.

The pharmaceutical supply chain has stretched around the world to the remotest, previously inaccessible places, and so has the presence of substandard (products that have been improperly produced, handled or stored) and counterfeit products (products whose identity, strength or source have been deliberately tampered with). Good distribution practice (GDP) refers to all the activities designed and implemented to ensure that the high quality levels achieved during the manufacture of medicines are maintained at every point throughout the distribution chain from manufacturer to patient, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements at all stages. All patients would like to be certain that the excellent quality under which medicines are made in the manufacturing industry has been maintained all along the legitimate supply chain and that they are always safe. This is particularly true for time-and-

temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical products. The biggest issue facing the pharmaceutical industry is temperature control because the pharmaceutical supply chain is becoming very complex, involving a number of different storage and transit locations that include airports and docks. At all of these points, the cargo is often handled by several different parties and subjected to various geographical locations and weather conditions.

Some of the potential breaks in the cold chain may occur at the following points:

i. Transport from the manufacturing plant;

ii. During transportation (by air, land or sea);

iii. During carrier loading/unloading;

iv. In transit, during stowage, due to temperature change, mishandling or delay;

v. Customs clearance through ports and airports of origin and destination;

vi. During transport to wholesaler;

vii. Transfer to and storage at the hospital/pharmacy/clinic.

Since there are many risks for a temperature deviation or other non-conformances to occur, the quality system of all participants in the distribution and supply chain should have a means of detecting and documenting these weaknesses or failures such that proper corrective and preventive measures (CAPAs) can be put in place. Every CAPA should be well documented and clearly:

i. identifies the root cause of a particular system failure/non-conformance

ii. specifies the steps that need to be taken to immediately correct the existing problem

iii. lists the measures that need to be put into place to prevent a non-conformance from happening again.

The result will be a complete, well-documented investigation and solution from which the company learns, which forms the basis for an effective continuous quality improvement plan and finally, which satisfies regulatory requirements. IAG Cargo, the single business unit of British Airways World Cargo and Iberia Cargo, has recently revised its CAPA programme in order to improve the current CAPA plan capabilities. The new system will ensure that a state of quality assurance is maintained throughout the whole distribution network of IAG Cargo and gives an acceptable level of confidence that all the processes involved in the distribution, stowage and transfer of TTSPPs and other Constant Climate-shipped products comply with GMDP and the customers’ expectations, and are safe and fit for the purpose of their intended use.

The Envirotainer Active Cold Chain Services team is able to dovetail perfectly into this revised process. If a customer reports a concern from a shipment moved by IAG Cargo Constant Climate in an Envirotainer container, this is immediately reported to Envirotainer. IAG Cargo then provides all relevant Quality Check information to Envirotainer who will isolate the container for inspection. Once Envirotainer completes its investigation a full report is provided to IAG Cargo who will discuss the findings with the customer. This working partnership ensures rapid investigation and if necessary for corrective and preventative actions to be put in place.

What happened during your latest cold chain shipment?Logging of temperature data throughout cold chain shipments is essential but sometimes temperature records alone do not give the full picture. To help customers address this challenge, Envirotainer Active Cold Chain Services has developed Active Container Data (ACD) that continuously records crucial shipment data and enables improved quality on each shipment.

The Active Container Data service is available to healthcare shippers as well as airlines and logistics providers for shipments carried in Envirotainer’s RKN e1 and RAP e2 active, self-regulating containers with compressor cooling and electrical heating. Already 20 Envirotainer customers are using the service to further improve their cold chain with some requesting reports for every shipment and others using it as a cross reference for shipments where temperature excursion has been recorded by their own monitoring system or when temperature loggers are lost.

ACD is also helping some customers as a support tool during the implementation phase of new trade lanes.

When the Envirotainer container has left your premises and until it arrives at its destination, it is difficult to know how the container is being handled. The ACD service provides the transparency you need

to actively follow-up on each cold chain shipment.

This service provides a full summary of the shipment as the container records:• Temperature inside the container

Find the root cause to any temperature excursion by easily connecting the temperature deviation to outside factors. The record of temperature inside the container also serves as a back-up in case loggers are lost or broken during shipment.

• Ambient temperature

See the ambient conditions the container is going through during shipment and identify areas where improvements can be made.

• Container door openings

Detect if and when the container doors were opened during shipment.

• Battery levels

Monitor if the container is being charged as agreed.

Customers that sign up for the ACD service receive a package containing everything needed to set up the service, including IR readers for data access. When the container has been delivered, data is downloaded from the container control unit using the IR reader and the data is sent by e-mail to the Envirotainer Cold Chain Services team for the creation of a report. The report, based on non-validated data, is sent back to the customer within two business days.

Envirotainer has positioned itself to serve the cold chain requirements of India’s thriving healthcare industry by signing a partnership agreement with TT Logistics.India is one of the most important air cargo markets globally. It also boasts one of the most important and fastest-growing pharmaceutical industries in the world. In terms of volume, India’s pharma industry is now the third largest in the world and by 2020, the Indian pharmaceutical market is expected to reach $55 billion – some predictions suggest this figure could even be as high as $70 billion.

At the official launch of the new partnership with TTL, Stephen Maietta, Healthcare Sales Director, said: “Today marks another very important and happy milestone in Envirotainer’s history with the launch of our partnership with TT Logistics in India. We

Envirotainer produced the world’s first ‘active’ temperature-controlled air cargo container in 1995, providing a major advancement for the healthcare, airline and logistics industries. A decade it launched the RKN e1 container – its first ‘active’ heating and cooling container solution for highly sensitive healthcare products, such as vaccine, insulin and blood plasma and, in 2010, introduced the new, larger RAP e2 heating and cooling container to its fleet,

which is manufactured using composite materials.

Last year, Envirotainer worked with over 400 companies within the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry, helping to transport the equivalent of 75,000 pallets to more than 100 countries.
