KATHERINEMcGARRY established a school record for field goal per-centage in a season (.634) at Salem High School, earning all-Ohio special mention recogni-tion her senior year. Scoring 1,651 points in four years at Mansfield St. Peter’s, GRETCH-ENPOLINSKI graduated as the school’s all-time leading scorer. She led the Spartans to the 2004 state championship game and helped St. Peter’s to a 93-12 four-year record.

FORE–Freshman BECCAMARTIN is not only a sharp shooter on the basketball court, but she’s a good shot with a club in her hands. A four-year letterwinner in golf for the Patri-ots, she helped lead Mt. Anthony Union to the 2002 and 2003 state golf titles.

COMINGUPNEXT–The Raiders close out their non-conference schedule on Jan. 17, hosting defending Ivy League champion Dartmouth at 7 p.m., on Cotterell Court. The game will be televised by Time Warner Sports.

PRESEASONPOLL– Colgate was picked to finish seventh in the Patriot League by the league’s coaches and sports information directors. Defending champion Holy Cross earned the top spot in the poll with 11 first-place votes.

PRESEASONAWARDS–Senior guard MEGANBALLARD was named to the preseason all-Patriot League first-team. The reigning Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, Ballard’s 87 steals in 2004-05 are tied for third on the single-season list with Chigozie Ozor ’05. The native of Atlanta, Ga. is on pace to surpass Sarah Cashman as the Raiders’ all-time steals leader.

EXTENDEDSTUDY–Ballard, Curtin, Warwick and sophomores MELANIECARGLE and CAITLINGILLARD participated in an extended study trip with professor Sarah Wilder in Santa Fe, N.M. this past spring. The five players got the chance to experience and learn about pueblo life and culture through interactions with members of the Tesuque and Cochiti pueblos. The group helped with preparations for the annual corn dance, assisted in the “language nest”– a preschool where instructors only speak the na-tive language – and volunteered in health and government centers. The group along with Colgate men’s basketball player Jon Foss ’06 lent their basketball expertise at a camp for children from the Tesuque and Cochiti pueblos.

COLGATEONTV–The Colgate women’s basketball team will have two games broadcast live on television this season. Time Warner 26 in Central New York will cover the Colgate versus Dartmouth game on Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. The Raiders also will be the Patriot League game of the week on CSTV when they visit American on Feb. 12, at 7 p.m.

RAIDERSONTHEAIR–Sixteen women’s basketball games will be broadcast live on the radio at WKXZ 93.9 FM and 99.3 FM. Fans who are outside the listening area don’t have to miss a minute of action as the games will be streamed online by Teamline. The next Colgate game to be broadcast will be the Raiders’ Patriot League home opener on Jan. 17 versus Dartmouth at 7 p.m.
