Collector tracks invasive species management efforts
Casey Jones, Director of Land Management
Collector?
• It’s a free ESRI app• Enables feature creation, editing and
updates from the field
Los problemas
• Handheld gps devices were being used but, data entry is the field was incredibly cumbersome.
• After-the-fact data cleanup never happened as quickly as it should have.
• Land management staff doubles in the summer with interns; thanks to the Olive B. Cole Foundation :)
• This makes it even more important to find out who worked where and when.
• We needed to record associated data in the event that something didn’t work right and also to monitor our effort.
Materials, methods
• Apple devices (iPads and iPods), wi-fi only (no cellular data)
• Yes, apple still makes iPod touches. • Bluetooth gps receivers
• iPhones and cellular models of iPads have gps receivers built in.
• We started with Garmin GLO devices but, more recently, we’ve replaced old GLO devices with Bad Elf receivers. They’re better and they gave us a friendly discount.
• Built in ArcGis Pro, served up in AGOL

Offline mode
Offline mode
• Have to download maps to device.• Feature layer settings
• Definitely enable editing• Definitely enable sync• Maybe still have to use the tag ‘offline-ready’(?)• Other options are by preference

Visualizing it on the other side
• Raw• Bicentennial three-year EQIP contract
• Displayed as cumulative work (‘progressively displays all the data’)
• Cedar creek corridor work• Displays work in specific interval
• Dashboard (manager view)
Noventa y ocho problemas
• We just work too much. We tried to narrow the amount of data transferred by dividing the area into blocks but, the whole feature is still syncing anyways.
• There have been some improvements made since we created the map in march. Map settings now have special ‘offline’ settings. I haven’t tinkered with ‘em yet.
• Androids• Interns• Using it• My own limited knowledge (custom basemaps, related tables, more)• Waiting on aurora project…
