CITY COLLEGE NORWICH Development expands facilities for disabled students

A key milestone in the campus improvement programme at City College Norwich has been reached, with the handover by Kier Construction of a new building for learners with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) and the completion of the renovation of Broadland Drive. (more)

Free autism awareness training programme launched

A new training programme to raise awareness about autism is being launched by City College Norwich and national charity, Ambitious about Autism. The training will be free to any business or organisation in the East of England region whose staff work with young people aged 16 and over. (more)

LOWESTOFT COLLEGE Lowestoft College’s 14th annual Celebration of Achievement Awards highlighted the success of 18 students from the College. Alex Bussey and Daniel Jones claimed the top two places in a heat of the Johnstone’s Young Painter of the Year competition. LUTON SIXTH FORM COLLEGE Turner Prize-winning artist Elizabeth Price has received another honour, the Association of Colleges Gold Award. OAKLANDS COLLEGE Staff and students from the College’s Agriculture department have won an impressive collection of prizes from showing sheep at the recent Hertfordshire and Suffolk County Shows.

A student and coach from the College’s Basketball Academy were both recognised in Basketball England’s national awards. Eighteen-year-old Beth Sarson was named Player of the Year for the Midlands South East region, while coach Lee Ryan won the NBL Women Midlands South East category of the Coaching Awards.

A group Business students are working with the newly formed St Albans City Centre Partnership to draw up a business plan on how they can increase tourism to the city and improve its economy. The goal is for St Albans to achieve BID (Business Improvement District) status by 2017.

Paston’s new Art and Fashion show venue Paston Sixth Form College officially opened the new Griffon studios and theatre on Thursday 11th June. HRH Duke of Gloucester rounds off a year to remember at PRC Peterborough Regional College welcomed a royal visit from His Royal Highness, the Duke of

Gloucester, who toured the facilities and engaged with students, staff, governors and businesses.

Thurrock Football Academy win the league League champions South Essex College narrowly missed out on doing the double this season in the Essex FA cup final.

The College’s Thurrock Football Academy team had already finished top of the Essex County Schools & Colleges U19 League this season and were looking to win another prize by lifting the Essex FA Bryon Coomer Under 19s Trophy for Colleges.

Sophie’s art memorial to the suffragettes An art and design student interviewed Helen Pankhurst, the descendant of suffragette Sylvia, for her end of year project based on women’s rights.

Sophie Ellis, studying the UAL Foundation Diploma in Art & Design, wanted to focus her art work on a women’s right to vote in response to the recent General Election.

Celebrating Success 2015 Students celebrated their successes during a glitzy awards evening at South Essex College.

The event, held at the College’s Southend Campus, saw over 30 awards presented to the best students in each subject area from the three campuses – Southend, Basildon and Thurrock.

Catwalk collections raise funds for Lady McAdden Fashion students from South Essex College put on a catwalk show displaying their end of year collections, while raising money for the Lady McAdden Breast Screening Trust at the same time.

The Level 3 Fashion Design students organised the professional event at the College’s Southend Campus. All ticket proceeds went to the charity and the event raised approximately £550.

Media students live the LA way A group of creative media students from South Essex College took the trip of a lifetime to Los Angeles. They spent a week in the iconic Californian city, visiting famous places such as Paramount Studios, Venice Beach and Hollywood.
