Being a Peacemaker Part 3Over the two weeks before Easter we have looked at the ways that people respond to conflict and some helpful hints as to how to overcome conflict. Last week we learned:The “Five A’s” that can solve conflict• Admit what you did wrong. • Apologize for how your choice

affected the other person. Accept the consequences for your wrongdoing without argument or excuses.

• Ask for forgiveness. • Alter your choice in the future. This week we will look at forgiveness. This is most appropriate after EASTER where Jesus died on the Cross to offer forgiveness for our sins, when we have let Him down.Forgiveness is a choice, not a feeling.a) False Ideas about ForgivenessYou need to feel like forgiving before you can really forgive. (Wrong. It’s a choice you make, not a feeling.) • Forgiveness means forgetting about

what someone did to hurt you.

(Wrong. We may not forget but we no longer dwell on our disappointment.)

• Forgiveness excuses the other person’s sin. (Wrong. Their sin is up to the other person, not us.)

• Forgiveness depends on getting a guarantee that someone won’t do the same wrong thing again. (Wrong. We have no power over what others do, only what we choose to do).

By forgiving someone we are making four promises. b) Four Promises of Forgiveness• I promise I will not dwell on what you

did wrong. I will think good thoughts about you and do good for you.

• I promise I will not bring up this situation and use it against you.

• I promise I will not talk to others about what you did.

• I promise I will be friends with you again, but maybe not immediately and only where it is safe to do so.

Oh, and...Think before you speak. Or before you act. Or before you confront someone

because respectful communication is more likely to be heard. This includes the words we speak, our tone of voice and our body language (making eye contact and avoiding bad gestures, facial expressions or posture).I hope these words which reflect God’s desire for us to be peacemakers who are patient, self-disciplined, kind and slow to anger, will help to make your home or workplace a happier place to be, so that “the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7Sue

When we receive God’s forgiveness by faith, He no longer sees us as sinners but instead sees His Son in our place. This is what Jesus meant when he said, “it is finished.” No longer does there remain a gap between us and our Creator caused by our rebellion against God. This grace makes all those who put their trust in Jesus pure, righteous and without blemish. Though I still sin and fail, grace covers me because what Jesus did was enough.

That grace looks at me and says He will rebuild the ruins of my heart that I so diligently destroyed in the first place. Grace looks at me and says I can have a relationship with my Heavenly Father because He loves me. Grace says that after everything I’ve done, because of my faith, I will dwell in light of His glory for eternity; there is reward in Heaven for me.

On that day, the Lord my God cleansed my sin and now I dwell in the city; His presence. He is with me. There is no place I can go where He is absent. I dwell with Him. Where I once was unable to enter, the door is now open. The veil is torn.

I say “I don’t deserve it.” Grace says “I do.” What does grace say to you?

for the week

Ezekiel 36:33This says the Lord God: On the day that I cleanse you from all

your iniquities, I will also enable you to dwell in the cities, and the

ruins shall be rebuilt.
