Component DefinitionsProcessor - A processor's job is to recieve input and put out the appropriate output. The CPU handles all basic system instructions, such as processing mouse and keyboard input and running applications. Besides the CPU, most desktop and laptop computers also include a GPU. This processor is specifically designed for rendering graphics that are displayed on a monitor.Motherboard - The motherboard is the largest card in the computer and it is the one to which all other cards and the CPU are attached. The motherboard's primary purpose is to manage all the computer's subsystems. A chipset manages communications among systems. The motherboard also distributes power to the systems with low power needs.Graphics Card - Graphics cards are dedicated to a single task, to take video data from the PC's processor and convert it to signals for your monitor. Though most computers have graphics chips built into the motherboard, their capabilities are usually basic. Graphic designers, gamers and multimedia enthusiasts typically purchase more sophisticated graphics cards; these plug into the motherboard and deliver faster graphics processing and better image quality.RAM - (random access memory) is the place in a computer where the operating system, application programs, and data in current use are kept so that they can be quickly reached by the computer's processor.Power Supply - Power supply unit or PSU supplies power to the computer. Most Laptops have a chargeable battery but most desktop computers require a constant electrical power supply. A PSU regulates the voltage from standard electrical outlets to stop spikes and surges common in most electrical systems. Events like power cuts can create surges in your power supply when the electricity comes back on which can burn out your power supply if it can't regulate the voltage.Computer Network Connectivity - Using an ethernet cable to connect to the internet, via your router is a more reliable and more efficient way to use the internet as you won't be exposed to your ping spiking unpredictably while playing games etc.
