ADMISSIONS
• Entrance into the college is highly selective. Prospective students must have excellent credentials from their former schoolsand write an entrance examination.
• Dependent on strong exam performance, students are invited for an interview, after which admissions decisions are made.Selection is strictly by merit.

Since the inception of SOS Kinderdorf in Austria after WWII, the organization has provided family life and education for orphaned and vulnerable children in SOS Children’s Villages. So far, it has expanded to 134 countries and territories, providing homes toover 82,000 children in 554 Villages and with over 600 SOS Youth Facilities worldwide. In total, about 82,000 children and adultshave benefitted from SOS family strengthening programmes since December 2013.
The school’s last cohort for the IGCSE curriculum will complete their final exams in June 2019.
• Founding Purpose - SOS-HGIC was founded in 1990 by SOS Kinderdorf International, a worldwide charitable organization, to prepare academically able students from SOS Villages across Africa, students from the host country, and from countries around the world, for tetiary education.
• Location - Port city of Tema, Ghana (30km from Accra)

SCHOOL OVERVIEW
• A residential institution where students live as a community in boarding hostels with a strong personal and social educationprogramme. Students get the opportunity to share experiences from their home countries in an environment which fosters unity.
• Modern facilities, including computer, language, science and an Apple Creativity laboratory as well as a computerized library.

In rare instances for students not suited for studying the
complete diploma, the College offers 3 HL courses and 2 SL
courses. Such students are known as diploma programme
courses (DPC) candidates.

The college also has a philosophy which places a strong emphasis on activities of service to the local community. Serviceactivities involve the whole school, and go beyond the the basic requirements of the IB Diploma.

SERVICEThe college embraces service to the community as part of Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS). This is an integral part of the IBDiploma programme, but has also been adopted as a school philosophy, to be done by the entire student body.
Service Accomplishments -Provided potable drinking water by laying an 882-meter pipeline to an underpriviledged village.Constructed a drainage system at settlement for destitute veterans from WWII. Constructed school buildings in some rural communities. Initiated a scholarship scheme for underpriviledged students.
The school also offers extended community service programmes on some weekends.
The College has initiated joint CAS projects with schools around the world. SOS-HGIC has hosted and worked with staff and students from Lillestom Videregaende Skol, Norway; the American Schoolof Paris, France, Phillips Exeter School, and St. Paul’s School, both of New Hampshire, USA.SOS-HGIC students also visit these schools for exchange programmes.
Every year, students participate in international Youth Leadership Conferences.
