SEDA College WA
COLLEGE PROSPECTUS
The SEDA model places student
interest at the forefront of their
senior secondary education,
alongside a practical connection to
industry and an individual approach
to teaching and learning. Students
at our College are able to gain a
hands-on insight into what it is like
to be a part of Australia’s leading
organisations and sporting clubs.
Our College accesses leading
industry partnerships including
Cricket Australia, the Western
Australian Cricket Association,
Perth Scorchers, Netball WA, West
Coast Fever, Basketball WA, Perth
Lynx, Perth Glory, Football West,
Fremantle Dockers and West Coast
Eagles.
What makes for an engaging
education? For us, the key
component is interest-based
learning. Young people and their
families choose our College because
we connect with their interests and
then get students outside of the
classroom to learn directly from
industry.
Our ‘one teacher, one classroom’
model also allows our teachers to
take on a true mentoring approach,
where they walk alongside and
support the individual journey of
our students as they complete their
secondary education.
Our Teachers work with each student
to develop their confidence as
learners. Teachers are specifically
recruited for their capacity to build
healthy and respectful relationships
with students and develop skills
for life.
At SEDA College WA our students
experience an applied learning
pedagogy where hands-on learning
happens both inside and outside of
the classroom. Through this applied
learning model, students have a
deeper connection to their education,
resulting in enhanced engagement
levels. Students also undertake
work and industry placements and
community project work to develop
their work readiness and community
awareness.
It is an honour to be the Principal
here at SEDA College WA. We are
passionate about providing an
environment where every student
can experience success in a place
where ambition meets opportunity.
I look forward to meeting with you
at one of our upcoming Information
Sessions.
Rocky Collins
Principal

SEDA College students experience
a unique education pathway because
of our relationships with several

Areas of Study and curriculum

they get the time to know you and
your individual aspirations. They take
the time to support you as you learn
through your own experiences and
define your own journey.
You will learn in real workplace and
community settings and directly
from industry experts. You may get
out of your comfort zone and make
mistakes, but this is where the real
learning takes place. Don’t worry,
we will support you all the way. We’ll
equip you with transferable skills that
will help you climb the career ladder.
We know from our connection

Our teachers, while being
experienced educators, also have
a broad range of professional
skills and excellent theoretical
and practical grounding. They have
industry experience, which will
vary from teacher to teacher.
All staff are invested in unlocking
each student’s potential as they
guide them on a pathway to success.
Our teachers develop a professional
relationship with their students,
giving them the skills and guidance
required to realise their full potential.
Our staff also work in close
collaboration with industry experts
from our partner organisations,
delivering hands-on learning and
creating meaningful workplace
connections.
Student Connect
At SEDA College, we understand the
significance of wellbeing for student
achievement. The "one teacher,
one classroom" model we use allows
our teachers to develop positive
relationships with each student and
support their individual journeys.
They act as mentors, supporting
both learning and wellbeing
throughout the program. If concerns
become more significant, each
teacher will collaborate with the
Program Coordinator and/or
Student Connect staff to provide
the best care possible.
Student Connect provides
professional wellbeing assistance in
collaboration with the teaching team
and parents/carers. We find open
and regular communication makes a
difference to a student’s experience
while they are at school. We
encourage regular contact between
SEDA staff, students and parents/
carers; and where appropriate,
external support providers. This is
critical to ensure each student’s
individual needs are met.
Our aim is to develop each student’s
capacity to access support services
in their local area that are age
appropriate and best placed to assist.
Student Connect also promotes
student wellbeing by developing
awareness raising activities relevant
to the needs of our students.
MySEDA
MySEDA is the Learning
Management System (LMS) that
students, parents, teachers and
staff use as their central hub for
communication, teaching and
learning. MySEDA supports parents
and guardians to stay connected
with real-time access to student
assessment, grades, reports,
industry experiences and important
notifications. It is available online
and as a smartphone app.
LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
The SEDA College

MyPLAN
MyPLAN is a digital portfolio that
supports students to track their
individual goals, achievements,
experiences, and growth during their
time at SEDA College. Underpinning
MyPLAN are the Transferable Work
Skills and Personal Habits, which
have been identified as important
attributes, attitudes, and mindsets
to develop in order to succeed at
SEDA and beyond. Development
of the MyPLAN portfolio, and the
Transferable Work Skills and Personal
Habits, is supported with timetabled
MyPLAN sessions in class and regular
MyPLAN meetings between teachers,
parents, and students.
The five core skills we believe are
essential for student development are:
› Problem Solving
› Personal Organisation
› Self-Awareness
› Communication

“The SEDA one teacher model is very unique and
allows teachers to work closely with the students
and parents over a two-year period. The growth and
development that we see in students during this time
is very rewarding.”
Kara Antonio
Fremantle Dockers Sports Development Program Teacher,
Fremantle Dockers AFLW Captain
“Many students have found a new love and enjoyment
for school and learning again at SEDA College.
The program is very much student-centred and

SEDA College WA
The SEDA College program takes
the traditional WACE and VET
curriculum and contextualizes
it to create maximum student
engagement. Numeracy and Literacy
skill development is integrated
throughout multiple Areas of Study.
Becoming the Coach
Great coaches are hard to find.
In this area of study, students
are introduced to the roles and
responsibilities of an entry level
coach. Students explore and
compare good and poor coaching
practices and are given the
opportunity to apply these skills
with real life participants. Coaching
practices are reviewed, and student
skills refined so that they are ready
to conduct participation clinics
representing their sporting partner.
The Athlete
In The Athlete, students will gain
an understanding of what it takes to
perfect skills. Students will learn how
to perform a skill analysis and design
and implement a development
program. Students will explore and
apply skill improvement tools and
feedback mechanisms and compare
skill abilities of varying levels of
athletes.
The Developing Coach
Real world coaching! Students get
the opportunity to further develop
and update coaching knowledge
and skills in a real setting. SEDA
students work within the community,
delivering participation programs for
our industry partners whilst refining
all aspects of their coaching.
Game On
Participate in the SEDA Game On
season and develop your skills and
broaden your knowledge about
the game you love. In this area of
study, students put their skill and
conditioning into match practice,
as well as gain a broader
understanding of what it takes
to run a sporting competition.
Participate in Game On, show
off your skills and explore other
aspects of the game such as sports
psychology, officiating, fixtures
and resulting.
The Power of Sport
Sport is the universal language.
Take the time to explore how sport
can influence and shape the culture
within a community.
Learn and experience how sport
can break down all sorts of barriers
and bring people together. In this
area of study, students will connect
with sporting partners and industry
strategies to help build better
communities.
The Apprentice
Students at SEDA get a head start
in their personal and professional
development. In The Apprentice,
students build the cornerstone of
the development plan via MyPlan
and build their knowledge and
understanding of personal work
habits and skills for a successful
future.
The Workplace
Our students get a head start in
their careers through Workplace
Learning which they undertake
one day a week in allocated terms.
Students gain a good understanding
of the duties they might be expected
to perform in the workplace and
they will acquire the skills that
prospective employers need and
want in their employees. Students
complete a placement in the Sport
and Recreation industry to broaden
their experiences and employment
prospects.
AREAS OF STUDY
Student Learning
The SEDA College program is planned
and developed with industry experts, and
deliberately connects the learning experiences
of our students to the type of activities and
projects that might be undertaken if working
in a sport and recreation environment.
