Color Addition• Primary Transmission Colors
• Red, Green & Blue• Pixels on a screen• Colors produced on a screen depend
on the intensity of each colored pixel• Colors absorbed by the eye’s cones
peak at Red, Green & Blue

Color Subtraction• Primary Absorption Colors
• Magenta, Cyan, Yellow & Black• Printer Ink Colors• These colors reflect the
transmission colors that make them up and absorb the others
• Intensity controlled by amount of ink used• Number of dots printed• Size of dots printed
Color Subtraction – Cyan Visible1. Cyan ink is printed
on white paper2. White light (RGB)
shines on the paper3. The cyan ink absorbs
red and reflects green and blue
4. The eye sees the color cyan
Color Subtraction – Using the Color Wheel• The absorption color
(Cyan, Magenta or Yellow) absorbs the opposite transmission color
• Black absorbs all transmission colors and darkens the resulting color
