    volunteer force. Websterdenes Volunteer as onewho enters into or offershimself for a service of hisown free will. After beingaccepted as a senior memberof Civil Air Patrol we takeon the responsibilities ofmembership to voluntarilysubscribe to the objectivesand purposes of Civil Air

    Patrol and agree to be guidedby the CAP constitution andbylaws and comply withCAP rules and regulationsand agree to abide by the decisions of those in authority ofCivil Air Patrol, in the case of Cadet membership to servefaithfully in the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program and attendmeetings regularly, participate actively in unit activities, obeythe ofcers, wear the uniform properly, and advance rapidlyto prepare to be of service to the community, state, and nation.What I have just said here is part of the Oath of Application

    for senior members and part of the CAP Form 5 for thecadets. So, why am I bringing this Volunteer thing up? Theact of making application to an organization is volunteering,once we become members of that organization its a wholedifferent ball game. I dont care what organization you belongto, whether it is the Kiwanis Club, the Knights of Columbus,the Free Masons, or Civil Air Patrol there are rules and regula-tions that are expected to be followed. The second of our corevalues is Volunteer Service. CAP adopted this core valuebecause it reects the very essence of the organization ser-vice to humanity. All CAP volunteers willingly give of theirtime, energy, and personal resources. Moreover, many havemade the ultimate sacrice by losing their lives while serv-ing the organization. As a minimum, this core value impliesa commitment on the part of all CAP members to place theorganizations purposes rst and foremost. This process startswith the members agreement to obey the rules and regulationsof CAP and the Air Force. In this regard, self-discipline is anabsolute must. Please remember ~ Volunteerism is not an

    It took ve attempts over a period of twelve years for former Navy pilot Joe Tanner to be accepted intoNASAs astronaut training program. Tanner told an audience of almost 200 to be tenacious and pursue theirdreams as they gathered to hear the astronauts presentation on October 24th at Evergreen Lutheran Churchcourtesy of the Evergreen Composite Squadron. The internal/external aerospace education program wasconceived by Evergreen Squadron Commander Capt. Daryll Keeling and Aerospace Education Ofcer Capt.Dean Anderson who invited Tanner, now a professor of Aerospace Engineering Sciences at the Universityof Colorado, to speak at one of their weekly meetings. The audience included members of the local BoyScout Troop and their parents, Evergreen and Foothills Cadet Squadrons members and their parents andmembers of the mountain community of all ages.

    The presentation included an informative and entertaining PowerPoint overview of the various Space Shuttle

    and International Space Station missions that Tanner was part of while serving as a NASA Astronaut.Quoting Lt. Mary Cast of the Foothills Cadet Squadron: our cadets and their parents learned so muchabout the current space program, and, even more importantly, our cadets got some real encouragement thatthey too can have dreams come true. They were encouraged to literally shoot for the stars!

    excuse for mediocrity.If you didnt notice, Colorado Wing had a verybusy summer. In June and July our aircrews ewsix days of Air Force Academy Vectoring and in

    June the Compliance Inspection Team descendedupon us; thanks to the hard work and dedication ofthe wing staff we received a Highly Successfulrating. In July, along with the Vectoring theAdvanced Technologies Academy came to town.The cadets and senior members spent a week ofintense training including getting exposed to theGeospatial Information Interoperability Exploitation Portable (GIIEP) system, boy, thats a mouth fullisnt it. The Rocky Mountain Region Staff Collegegot underway on Saturday, 23 July and ran through

    30 July; I had an opportunity to visit at the collegeto see the outstanding training provided. If thatwasnt enough August came along and so did theOperations Evaluation the rst week of the month.The Mission Base Staff, under the watchful eye ofthe IC Lt. Col. Mike McDonald, did a great job inprosecuting the mission; we received a Successfulrating. The dreaded Annual Survey Audit hit us thelast week of August; because of the thankless effortsof Maj. Andrew Racja, Capt. Eric Schwarm in theCommunications area, and MSgt. Cynthia Smith,

    the Director of Logistics, we got an Outstandingrating. As happens every year on 5 September, ourying stops. When the powers that be handed us asizeable amount of money we had to try and spend itand one of the ways we did that was to y the wingsoff the planes and gliders with orientation rides. Itwas obvious we would lose the funding if we didntget with the program so I asked Maj. Karl Keil andCapt. James Garrard to give me an amount of moneythey could spend out of the balance we had, withglider and powered ights. They both came back tome and said they could spend it all and thats exactlywhat they did.Speaking of money, at the time Im writing thisarticle we are broke. I hope by the time you readthis we will have funds to operate. All we can do ishope for the best.Thanks for your hard work and dedication to thebest wing in Civil Air Patrol ~ the Colorado Wing!Remember ~ P.R.I.D.E. and Zero Defects.

    The Civil Air Patrol has a new Airborne PhotographyTask Guide, SQTR, and high priority mission.

    We also have urgent calls from the Air Force,FEMA, and other Customers to provide betterquality pictures from the sky. There are new cam-eras and better technology to help but the answersstart between the ears of the photographer and on

    the ground.Taking aerial photos has long been a CAP job. Nowit is an urgent edict.

    On November 5 & 6, 2011 in the parking lot andclassroom at the Military Science Building on theCampus of CSU Aerial Photo Trainers: Nate Duehr,Reid Lester, Dave Ayers, Jack Head and Ed OBrienput 2 trainees through the Airborne PhotographyGround School.

    On Saturday there was a Coke Can Shoot. Driving

    a car at dead slow speeds a crew of 3 traineesattempt to take good pictures of a Coke Can. Thissimulation shakes out crew responsibilities (CRM),renes camera technique, denes the limits of theequipment, and provides pictures for practicingdownloads to WMIRS.

    This isnt as easy asit looks but on theground Instructionis safe and easy,as a competitive

    spirit takes hold.Who can shootthe tiniest of printfrom the side of thecan from 8 feet while moving?Who can download

    the fastest and notmisplace the data?

    Who can function under rapid changes in the missionprole and still get the work product required?

    The Coke Can Shoot instructs the basic AirbornePhotography skill set, logging procedures, andmakes for a fun day.

    On Sunday there was the task guide and SQTR followthrough in an eight-hour lecture course. This is to be

    followed by 2 air missions to become a fully qualiedAirborne Photographer. That said, this isnt aboutthe qual. This is about our performance.

    Soon the scanner will be the hot seat on most every

    Effective communications arecritical to the success of any CivilAir Patrol mission. With thatin mind, CAP communicatorsgathered at the Larimer CountySheriffs Emergency ServicesUnit on October 29, 2011 for aCommunications Unit LeaderClass. The one day class includedinstruction and practice on a vari-

    ety of topics. The class was opento cadets and senior members.C/CMSgt Sergeant Kyle Fieldsfrom Colorado Springs CadetSquadron said This was anexcellent class, I would denitelyrecommend it.

    Air Force f eedback f romEvaluated Exercises shows theirexpectation of radio communicators is planning and

    supervising other communicators but not talking onradios. Although CAP offers basic and advancedcommunications user courses, there is no formalinstruction for members wishing to progress asCommunications Unit Leader. Seeing an opportunityto improve the experience and create a larger groupof qualied communicators, several experiencedCAP communicators teamed up to create and teachan optional CUL class.

    Capt. Eric Schwarm, Colorado Wing Director ofCommunications, said Our goal is to provide anopportunity to sign off a few CUL SQTR tasks,offer training on communications topics uniqueto the Wing, and work on core CUL competen-cies: planning and supervising. An entire blockof instruction, taught by st Lt. Mark Sheets,Colorado Wing Assistant CommunicationsEngineering Officer, walked students throughcreating a complete communications plan. In

    that exercise students were tasked with a mission

    scenario involving a remote location requiring theuse of multiple repeaters and communications witha non-CAP search & rescue team. Once those planswere created, students were asked to adapt theirplan to compensate for a repeater failure.

    Another block of instruction covered items uniqueto the Colorado Wing. One of the signicant topicsinvolved learning how to operate the ColoradoWing repeater linking system. This system allowsstatewide communications, but another strong pointis its ability to operate multiple nets simultaneously.

    CULs must know how to operate the system tofunction effectively in the Colorado Wing. Studentswere also taught how to congure and use portablerepeaters, which can be used airborne or on theground to extend communications range. Finally,the CULs in training were exposed to the conceptof abbreviated communications which, if usedappropriately, can reduce the amount of time needed

    to communication effectively.

    Major Gary Oplinger, Group 2 CommunicationsOfficer, taught students about High Frequency(HF) radio and covered intricacies of several radiomodels used by CAP. HF radio is being pushed byCAP National Headquarters for its ability to com-municate over long distances, particularly the use ofHF-Automatic Link Establishment, which promisesto simplify long distance communications. HF couldbe especially important in a disaster relief situation.Maj. Oplinger also covered advanced user topics forCAP radios, such as editing and using scan lists.

    The day was full of lively discussion and excellentquestions. Students came from all over Coloradowith people in attendance from all four Groups. 1stLt. Chuck Pearson, trekked all the way from GrandJunction. Students came to the class with a widevariety of communications experience, includingeverything from BCUT/ACUT, to experienced

    police dispatchers and air trafc controllers, toelectrical engineers. Quite a few, including allthe instructors, were also licensed amateur radiooperators.

    When asked about the class, Capt. Stefanie Hudginsfrom Pikes Peak Senior Squadron replied: I learnedso much -- the level was perfect for me. I feel muchmore condent about Comm!

    the AP will feel like a bombardier, easing plane intoposition with minuscule corrections to the pilot, set-ting up, taking the shot, certifying that the picturesare good to go, downloading the pics, debrieng themission, brieng up the next crew, checking withthe customer to make sure they are happy

    The mission wont be done until the AP says wegot it! The missions success will be graded by thephoto debriefer who will also be a fully qualiedAirborne Photographer.

    CAP is getting better at Airborne Photography.Our terminology is now aligned to Air ForceReconnaissance standards. Our mission planningis now more in sync with Big Blue too. Our workis expected to be as good as theirs.

    As our skills increase, our performance will growbut then so will the expectations of our customers.Better service. More service. Within tighter time

    frames.

    We arent far from creating a new place in thevaunted history of CAP. The Airborne Photographersare getting ready. To GO!

    In every collective enterprise there is a basic skillset around which all training and endeavors areorganized. For an emergency-services based, yingsquadron in the Civil Air Patrol this basic skill setis the Mission Scanner.

    On Saturday Oct. 1 - at The South Metro Fire andRescue Headquarters - thirteen new scanner traineesheard the knowledge.

    It will take many alerts, many missions, manySAREXs, many more years of mentorship by othermembers to make them competent aircrew members- but for 13 prospective scanners this is where theKnowledge begins to sink-in. This is where taskguides, course slides, testing materials, and ol warstories meet.

    This is where the journey for an aircrew memberstarts. This is the foundation. This is the place.

    Foothills Cadet Squadron, CO-031, recently com-pleted another season of busy community service.Cadets and senior members use these opportunitiesto speak to the public and promote Civil Air Patrol.At each major event they man a recruiting - informa-tion booth where the public can see what CAP hasto offer. As a result the squadron has gained severalnew members.

    In March, the squadron was out on the streets of

    Denver in support of the March of Dimes. Thesquadron provided set-up, tear-down, traffic controland directions to marchers as over 0,000 peopletook to the streets to support the annual March forBabies. Foothills CS was on-site by 5:30 AM atCivic Center Park in the chilly pre-dawn hours. Theyhelped organizers set up booths, inflate balloons,and put out supplies like water and sun block for themarchers. Then cadets and senior members were sta-

    tioned along city streetsto assist Denver policein directing march par-ticipants to make sureeveryone made it safelyback to the where themarch originated.

    In May the cadets andseniors gathered at

    Sloans Lake Park inwest Denver to sup-port the Cystic FibrosisFoundation with theirmarch. Again, FoothillsCS helped erect tentsand booths for variousdisplays, carried sup-plies and food for the

    marchers, and manned the walk route to assist themarch participants. Foothills color guard posted

    the colors for the opening ceremony, the squadronthen led march participants in some fun stretchingexercises to help warm every one up!

    Foothills Cadet Squadron next joined other cadetsquadrons from around the Front Range to partici-pate in solemn ceremonies at Ft. Logan NationalCemetery to honor the fallen on Memorial Day.Cadets stood guard over the memorial wreath,handed out programs to people attending, held theflags and escorted the representatives of variousorganizations. Cadets helped Gold Star mothers, asthey walk up to lay flowers and wreaths during thispoignant ceremony.

    Edwards. They enjoyed speaking with the Generaland were excited to receive challenge coins fromhim. A few Foothills CS members went to theAmerican Legion Hall and had lunch with severalveterans. There they were able to meet and talk withthem and thank them for their service.

    The summer season began with a few cadets joiningthe Parker Cadet Squadron, CO-173, Parker, CO andhelped them to kick off the Parker Days SummerFestival. They enjoyed marching through downtownParker in the parade.

    Every year, Foothills CS helps the city of Lakewoodduring their summer concert series at Belmar Park.Cadets helped direct traffic into the concert site andgave directions to patrons for purchasing tickets.Squadron members also work the back stage entrancearea to ensure no unauthorized people came in.

    Foothills CS also worked two other major eventsduring the height of the summer season -- Lakewoodon Parade and the Mile-High Nationals at BandimereSpeedway. Foothills CS helped Lakewood on Paradeorganizers by directing traffic into the JeffersonCounty Stadium parking lot throughout the day andearly evening. This event takes place during theFourth of July weekend, many people come to watchthe parade and stay for fireworks in the evening. Thisevent certainly kept our cadets busy!

    The highlight of the summer is the NHRA Mile HighNationals at Bandimere Speedway, Morrison, CO.Cadets and seniors worked all three days in mid July.Noisy, dusty, and hot, the cadets loved every minute!Squadron members manned two relief stations -- oneon the upper level near the mist tent, and the other atthe southeast end of the spectator stands on the lowerlevel. Cadets performed a wonderful service as theyprovided cups of water to thirsty race fans. The squad-ron arrived at least two hours before the gates openedeach day to set up the water stations and start pumping.

    These two relief stations were always busy. Patronswere quite happy to get the free water. Memberscould tell when the track shut down to recondition theracing surfaces because they were flooded with peoplewanting a drink of water. They could hardly keep up!During this years Mile-High Nationals they pumpedclose to 500 gallons of drinking water for spectators.The cadets had an opportunity during break times tomeet the drivers, see the cars and watch the races.

    The nitros are especially popular although everyonejumped when those babies took off! After race season,Bandimere holds a volunteer appreciation Thank-Youbuffet. Volunteers can then go out to race go-carts orthe tracks Cameros.

    The weekend of Aug 26-28, 2011 saw the squadron at twodifferent events. The Lakewood Chili Harvest Festivaland Rocky Mountain Air Show. Foothill CS membersjoined other squadrons from throughout Colorado atthe air show and fly-in held at the Rocky MountainMetropolitan Airport in Broomfield, CO. Many membersmanned the flight lines to ensure public safety.

    The Chili Harvest Festival was a two day event atthe Lakewood Heritage Center. Foothills membersstayed from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon.

    They patrolled the Festival after hours for fire watchto ensure the displays and sound equipment weresecure against weather and fire. During the day thegroup assisted the Heritage Center volunteers bymanning gates, directing the live performers to theproper areas, and helping answer questions from thepublic. During evening and early morning hours,cadets did several team building and leadershipexercises to sharpen skills.

    On the tenth anniversary of September 11th, FoothillsCS members volunteered their Sunday to pay respectsat the remembrance event in downtown Denver.Governor John Hickenlooper specifically requestedCAP cadets to escort families and friends of the 9-victims and families of service members who havebeen lost during the War on Terror. CAP also pro-vided an honor cordon along the parade route throughCivic Center Park. Our members worked a rope linearound steel from the World Trade Center and ensuredthat the crowd maintained a respectful distance fromthe families that were mourning their losses. Cadetspersonally escorted the families from a check-in sta-tion to the memorial area. Cadets remained with theirfamilies throughout the remembrance ceremony,made small talk with guests to help ease emotions,and made sure the mourners had tissues and wateras needed. Among the many special guests were aNew York City fireman and the families of severalSpecial Forces members killed during the ensuingwar. In spite of the difficult and emotional task, CAPmembers maintained a high level of professionalismat all times. For all CAP members involved, it wastruly a great honor.

    Our last major community service event, LakewoodsCider Days Festival, found Foothills CS again assist-

    ing the Heritage Center staff during the event as gatewatchers and overnight fire watch. During this eventcadets also had an opportunity to build several air-powered rocket launchers and rockets. This interest-ing and engaging activity attracted positive attentionfrom the large crowds and allowed Foothills membersto speak to the public about Civil Air Patrol.

    Although our major events have concluded forthe season, Foothills cadets continue to performcommunity service. Cadets attending LakewoodHigh School have been asked to present the colors

    at Lakewoods annual Seniors Breakfast, held onVeterans Day to honor the senior citizens in thecommunity. Foothills CS is also selling wreathsfor the Wreaths Across America program. Thewreaths they sell, along with the other communityorganizations, will be laid at graves in Ft. LoganNational Cemetery on December 10, 2011 as partof the national ceremony honoring all veteransthroughout the nation.

    What is a chaplain, and why shouldCAP have them? In each Peaks andPlanes we will look at some aspectof the CAP Chaplain Corps to seehow chaplains benet you.

    CAPP 221A (2011, p. 8) says,The free exercise of religion isguaranteed by the Constitution of

    the United States. The chaplainsprimary concern, therefore, is to safeguard your con-stitutional rights, to be an advocate for your religiousfreedom, and to provide for your free exercise ornon-exercise of religion.

    Chaplains serve in two roles, a prophetic role anda priestly role. In the prophetic role, the chaplainapplies the Word of God to your life, offering encour-agement, hope, and a friendly ear when you haveproblems. In the prophetic role, the chaplain caresfor your spiritual, mental, moral, and physical well

    being. He or she is an adviser to the Commander onissues of morale, well-being, and general conditionof the unit. The chaplain serves each unit member asa trusted counselor and condante.

    Chaplains also serve in a priestly role, representing eachCAP member before God. As chaplains offer privateand public prayers, they bring your concerns, needs,and hopes before the Almighty. They do so to the bestof their ability, in the form which best reects theirunderstanding of God and the dictates of their faith.

    Chaplains serve two masters, Civil Air Patrol and theirendorsing agency. Unlike other positions in CAP, chap-lains must meet the same educational and ecclesiasticalstandards as active duty, National Guard, and Reservechaplains. With some exceptions, it means having aMaster of Divinity and the approval of their churchbody before they can serve.

    Fremont, NebraskaStarting June 16, 2011, twenty-three Civil Air Patrol cadets gathered at the NationalPowered Flight Academy in Fremont, NE. Six of those cadets are from the Colorado Wing.     The following narrative is from C/Capt. Webb:

    The National Powered Flight Academy is the whole reason why I joined Civil Air

    Patrol almost 5 years ago. As long as I can remember, Ive wanted to fly. Growing up

    next to a small airport had a huge impact on what I wanted to be for the rest of my life.When I learned that I was accepted to the Powered Flight Academy in Nebraska, I was excited and

    a little nervous but once it actually started I realized that there is more to ying than I had ever

    imagined. Thankfully, almost all the people I befriended thought the same. All of us worked hard

    both in the air and on the ground to be able to learn everything we needed to solo; the ultimate

    reward for our work. All 23 of us, at the end of the camp, soloed. I think everyone will agree with

    me that this was the chance of a lifetime. Also, it is insanely cheap for the amount of airtime and

    ight training you receive. The friends you make will last a lifetime and the experiences you take

    away from it will help you the rest of your life. It was one of the best 2 weeks of my life!

    At one time or another, every CAP member has heard this question: Who is the safety ofcer? Of course, theanswer is always everyone! Every CAP member, from the National Commander down to the newest CadetAirman Basic has safety responsibilities.

    Knock it off! Every member, even the newest cadet, can, and should, stop what appears to be an unsafe activity bysaying knock it off. In cases like this, the activity leader should halt the activity, immediately, and the participantsshould discuss the safety concern. After taking the time to evaluate the situation, the activity leader can make adecision to continue, modify, or stop the activity. It is better to take a time out to evaluate the situation than tocontinue ifany participant or observer believes something about the activity is unsafe or questionable. Seniorand cadet leadership shouldnevercriticize or ridicule another member for taking this action. The member shouldbe praised for speaking up and leaders should take the concern seriously. By the way, knock it off is a termused by military pilots during practice air-to-air combat maneuvering. When it is necessary to terminate air-to-airmaneuvering due to safety concerns or any other reason, any of the participating pilots can call out knock it offover the radio and the ght stops immediately!

    Safety Currency All members must be safety current to participate in any meeting or activity. This is a memberresponsibility - it is not up to someone else to inform members that they are non-current. Although commandersand activity directors have a requirement to verify safety currency of participants, each member must know how tocheck safety currency and must not participate if they are non-current. Any non-current member who participatesin a meeting or activity is in violation of CAP regulations. There are two methods available for establishing safetycurrency:

    (a) Attend a unit meeting when a safety education is scheduled. Once this education is logged in eServices, allparticipants will have safety currency updated.

    (b) Complete an on-line safety education in eServices. This will automatically update safety currency.

    Regulations requireall active members to renew safety currency every month by one of these two methods. Nocurrency No participation! Period!

    Disclosure of Pre-existing Physical or Medical Conditions Pre-existing conditions are one of the primarycauses of Bodily Injury Mishaps. This is particularly true among cadets. A pre-existing condition is any physicalor medical condition, temporary or permanent, that might put a member at a greater risk of injury during a specicactivity. Each member is required to disclose any pre-existing condition to commanders or other leadership beforeparticipating in certain activities.

    EXAMPLE 1: A cadet sprains an ankle during PE at school a few days before the weekly CAP meeting. Duringthe scheduled CAP meeting, Cadet Physical Fitness Testing is scheduled. The cadet with the prior ankle injuryshould notify leadership of the injury and should not participate in CPFT. The risk of further injury is toogreat!

    EXAMPLE 2: A member is recovering from the u; however, they feel well enough to attend the upcoming CAPweekly meeting. This member shouldself-disclose that they are recovering from the u to unit leadership andshould not participate in any sort of strenuous activity at the CAP meeting/activity.

    Members have an obligation to self-disclose. Inform unit leadership or activity directors of any pre-existingconditionsbefore an activity.Do not wait for someone to ask!

    Grand Junction, COThunderMountain Composite Squadronwas invited to greet and escortthe fth and nal Western SlopeHonor Flight as they arrived backin Grand Junction on September22, 2011. Nearly one hundredWorld War II Veterans, theyoungest 83, the oldest 100, leftColorado the day before for athirty seven hour whirlwind tripto Washington DC. They visitedthe Iwo Jima Memorial, VietNam and Korean War Memorialsand the high light of the trip- theWorld War II Memorial. Theoldest vet placed a rose on theColorado pillar of the memorial.

    The group began the return ight in Baltimore and landed in Grand Junction at 7:05 pm with a water cannon

    arch, bands, an Honor Guard and a terminal lled with cheering, grateful citizens. As each vet reached theconcourse a waiting cadet or boy scout was on hand to escort them through the crowd to the elevator orstairs. At the stairs, Thunder Mountain had positioned six sturdy young men to help the somewhat fragile

    vets that chose to navigate down two ights of stairs. Many had tearsas they looked out to see the largecrowd who came out to welcomethese heroes.

    Through many generous dona-tions and volunteer escorts, overfive hundred vets were able

    to participate in this program.All of the cadets and seniormembers felt honored to haveparticipated in such an impor-tant event. They had a greattime meeting and talking withthese ne veterans. I really hada good time was the statementmost given by the cadets.

    The 17th annual Aurora Veterans Salute hosted by the Aurora Center for Active Adults was held November2, 2011. The primary corporate sponsor is Spalding Rehabilitation Hospital and KEZW radio. DJ RickCrandall was the MC. There were 850 tickets sold but because of the weather, actual attendance was less.This years theme commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam Conict. Last years theme wasWorld War II. The keynote speaker was Maj. Gen. Mason Whitney, USAF (ret), former Colorado AdjutantGeneral. He ew 343 combat missions over Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos in an O-2A supporting specialoperations. Current Adjutant General Michael G. Edwards also made brief comments along with manyother tributes to the veterans.

    This years Rocky Mountain Air Show at Rocky Mountain Metro Airport in Broomeld was August 26-28.

    The following are photos taken at the event. The Colorado Civil Air Patrol assisted the airshow staff withover 200 cadets and senior members from squadrons throughout the state supporting in various roles. Anumber of them arrived via a USAF C-130 that ew up from Peterson AFB in Colorado Springs.

    A U.S. Army Parachutist literally ew the colors and the COWG was proud to be there!

    Thousands of people witnessed the presence of the Civil Air Patrol at the Rocky Mountain Airshow ascadets and senior members could be seen everywhere including the ightline.

    Lest we forget those who valiantly served our country, present at the show was U.S. Navy Corsair pilot

    Capt. Thomas Hudner, Jr. USN Ret. who was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor by Pres. Trumanduring the Korean War for his actions to save his wingman by crash landing his Corsair near his downedand injured friend.     For all you WWI history buffs, the Red Barons name was Baron Manfred Von Richthofen and ew theFokker Triplane. He had 81 aerial victories before he was shot down. He later earned notoriety as Snoopysnemesis and for the frozen pizza that bears his name!
