Renewal in Colossae

Colossians 3:10

Must have the Renewal Attitude

If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things

that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right

hand of God. [2] Set your minds on things that are

above, not on things that are on earth. [3] For you

have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. • (Colossians 3:1-3 ESV)

Renewal Demands that We “Put them all off”…… What is earthly, what you once walked in, what is part of your old self

• immorality• impurity• passion• evil desire• covetousness• anger• wrath• malice• slander• obscene talk• lying

1. Cannot renew after the image of Creator

2. Won’t appear with Christ in glory

3. WILL be subject to the wrath of God

Renewal Demands that We “Put them all off”…… What is the way to renew?

v. 10- renewed in KNOWLEDGE

with …

• Discernment

• Decision

• Defeating

Put Off/Put On Principle Demands that we PUT THESE ON…As God’s chosen ones, holy, beloved

- befitting the children of God, imitating, worthy

• Compassion• Kindness• Humility• Meekness• Patience• Bearing with• Forgiving• Love• Peace• Thankfulness

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,

goodness, faithfulness, [23] gentleness, self-control;

against such things there is no law. [24] And those who belong to

Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

(Galatians 5:22-24 ESV)

Growth (fruit bearing) and renewal (in Colossians) is an ONGOING

PROCESS.

Christians are “becoming” what

they already are, in Christ.

Summing Up the Colossian Renewal…

• Let Christ’s word dwell in us richly…

– Teaching, admonishing, singing, giving thanks

• Whatever IS done, do all in the name of the

Lord
