COLOURANTS FOR RIGID GRADES OF VINYL
Doeflex Vinyl, one of the largest independent compounders in the UK, is introducing a range of standard colours for its general purpose grade of rigid extrusion compounds. FOR GLASS Dermil Research is marketing a low melting point saturated INFORCED polyester powder for use in glass fibre reinforced unsaturated
polyester resins to improve surface properties, craze resistance, and impact resistance. The powder also acts as a flow and levelling agent and is intended as an alternative to low density polythene additives, which are not as compatible with unsaturated polyesters and so reduce gloss levels. The polyesters are, however, twice the price of the LDPE. DR135180 and 1351150.

Mercury Plastics has acquired Foscolor in the UK. Mercury, which specialises almost exclusively in small lot supply of colour masterbatch, claims to be the only company in the UK producing a "truly universal masterbatch". Foscolor also pro- duces a so-called universal masterbatch but this is based on a different system. The two companies are somewhat comparable in size and market share.
