Serving the Mid-Columbia Region
A Letter to the Community At Columbia Gorge Community College, we believe in the power of dreams. We believe that dreams can fundamentally shape the future of the world in which we live. Without the power of dreams … we can become trapped in a world of "is" and "was" instead of "what could be." When Eleanor Roosevelt said, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams,” America was in the midst of the deepest economic crisis it had ever faced. During the Great Depression, America’s community colleges were called upon to retain workers and help revitalize the economy. Once again, America is turning to community colleges to provide the education and training needed to put people back to work. At CGCC, we have not forgotten that we are a community college, here to serve community needs. So now, perhaps more than ever before, Columbia Gorge Community College is focused on our mission of “building dreams and transforming lives.” But what is CGCC really doing? What does it mean to “build dreams and transform lives”? It means we will provide a venue for learning, cutting-edge technology, and a focus on student success. It means we are an active partner in the community. It means that if you bring us your dreams, we will help you achieve them in any way we can. We can’t transform your life for you. But bring us your dreams, and we will help you transform yourself. As Columbia Gorge Community College continues on its journey of independent accreditation, we look forward to sharing our successes with you in this first of many annual reports to our community. Thank you for your support, for allowing us to dream, and for entrusting us with yours. Respectfully, Dr. Frank Toda, President

Looking ahead…the future of CGCC
Focus on Students CGCC continues to manage record-high enrollment
growth, even in the face of decreased resources at the State level, maintaining its commitment to providing a quality education for students.
Student scholarships awarded by the College and Columbia Gorge Community College Foundation continue to be a priority.
Independent accreditation means that the College will be able to serve students better, more efficiently, and with more personalized services.
Facilities to Accommodate Growth
$8-million in matching funds have been awarded by the Oregon State Legislature to construct a Workforce Innovations facility on The Dalles campus, which would expand and consolidate the Renewable Energy Technology program while freeing up other classroom space.
$5-million in matching funds for expanding the Hood River Campus have been requested from the State. This project is currently #9 on a list of 36 community college projects statewide.
Instruction and Academic Support
CGCC has focused on increasing efficiencies while maintaining access for students.
The College strives to provide the education and training our community needs to put people back to work.
Partnerships CGCC will continue to focus on partnerships to
leverage opportunities for our students. The College continues to seek additional funding
through a combination of partnership contributions, Federal and State sources, private foundations, and through the activities of the Columbia Gorge Community College Foundation.
We continue to support the community, our students, and our industry partners with outreach and a “service before self” attitude.
