    This mural, painted in 1994 by local artist Sid Larson, depicts theevolution o the justice system in Boone County. It contains vignettes

    o well-known citizens James Sidney Rollins, George Caleb Binghamand reed slave John B. Lange, a successul entrepreneur. It alsoillustrates the stand by citizens called Tigers against guerilla orcesduring the Civil War. A second-foor mural, also by Larson, showscitizens gathering or church services and community activities in thenew courthouse.

    Local artist Sid Larson created these paintings in 1989. The panelsdepict a social history o Columbia and Boone County rom themid-1830s to the early 1900s. Among the notables included in themurals are renowned artist George Caleb Bingham; James SidneyRollins, ather o the University o Missouri; John H. Lathrop, rstpresident o MU; Civil War General Odon Guitar; and postmistressAnn Hawkins Gentry. One panel shows pack trains loaded with urson their way to St. Louis, illustrating the importance o Columbiaslocation on the Boones Lick Trail, which made the town a major linkto the Santa Fe and Oregon Trails in the 19th century.

    The 12 panels eatured in the courtroom were painted rom 1934 to1938 by University o Missouri art proessor Dr. Kenneth Hudson.Each panel represents an event o interest in the development o

    Columbia as a city. Subjects depicted include early settlers, wagontrains, Columbias colleges and the University o Missouri, MissouriRiver commerce, the railroad rom Centralia to Columbia, pit coalmining and arming. Panels include period representations such as aModel T Ford and a 1930s street scene o downtown Columbia.

    A good picture is equivalentto a good deed.
