Issue 37, December 2009
Badleys offices closed for Christmas / New Year holidays
24th December - 1st January
Our offices will close during the 24th December 2009, and will re-open on
Monday 4th January 2010. Please email [email protected] with any
queries or requests for technical support. All messages sent to this address will
be answered over the Christmas period. We would like to thank all our
customers for a great 2009, and wish them continued success in 2010.
Coming soon: Petrel*-TrapTester direct link
In early 2010 we will release two major enhancements to the TrapTester 6
system: (a) a direct link to the Petrel* software and (b) a depth conversion tool.
Both are described in more detail below. In addition, our next patch release will
include full copy-and-paste functionality in the Database Explorer which will
enable users to make multiple copies of existing data items such as faults,
horizons and wells. The new functionality will permit multiple model realisations
to be undertaken within the same TrapTester project for uncertainty and/or
sensitivity analysis.
Petrel*-TrapTester direct link
This major new feature will be extremely valuable to all our Petrel* users. It
means that all structural geological and fault seal requirements encountered
during project work in Petrel* can now be carried out in TT6 via the Badleys
TrapTester-Petrel* plug-in. The link supports all the native TT data types
including cellular models. The latter is particularly important as it makes the
advanced functionality of TT-TransGen available to the growing base of users
who want to populate reservoir flow models with sensible, geologically-based,
fault properties. Of course it also means that the standard TrapTester Quality
Control (TT QC) tools and fault-seal methodologies are also instantly available.
Badleys Calendar
Carbon Storage Opportunities in
the North Sea Conference
24-25 March 2010
Geological Society London
UK
Badleys is sponsoring this upcoming
meeting and is also presenting a
paper. The conference will focus on
issues such as the geological factors
affecting carbon storage, how the
geology will inform the regulators and
the public, and what the risks and
opportunities are for the private
sector.
Visit the Geological Society website
for more info.
AAPG International Conference &
Exhibition
11-14 April 2010
New Orleans
USA
Badleys will have a strong presence
at the AAPG to be held in New
Orleans, USA. We will be exhibiting
with our Upstream Alliance partner
Midland Valley. More details will
follow in upcoming newsletters.
Visit the AAPG website for more info.
In-house training courses
21-25 June 2010
Badleys HQ
Lincolnshire
UK
Badleys will be running our annual
in-house training courses, now with
the possibility of enhancing your skills
with some new advanced courses.
See this newsletter and our website
for more details.

Depth conversion tool
This application will convert all interpretation and all seismic data from the time
domain to depth. The methodology is based on the use of well time/depth
curves as the means of defining a 3-D velocity model. The new system
supports a rich environment for display, analysis and editing of these curves.
Training courses June 2010
21-25 June 2010
We would like to draw your attention to
our summer in-house training taking
place in June 2010. This year, we are
not only offering our usual back-to-back
Fault-Seal Analysis and TrapTester
training courses, but also three new
advanced classes specifically designed
for TrapTester users who want to get the
most out of our software:
- Fault-Seal Analysis course
- TrapTester training course
- (NEW!) Fault behaviour in production
- (NEW!) Best practice in structural modelling
- (NEW!) Fault reactivation risk
Fault-Seal Analysis course
The two-day Fault-Seal Analysis course will take place on 21-22nd
June, and provides participants a thorough overview of methods
and structural techniques for evaluating sealing faults. The
emphasis is placed on the application of an objective
methodology to the analysis of sub-surface data. The course is
essential for geologists, geophysicists and reservoir engineers.
Cost 1250 GBP + VAT (17.5%) per person.
TrapTester training course
The three-day TrapTester training course will take place on 23-24-25th June. It
introduces participants to structural framework modelling, fault-seal analysis and
geological risk evaluation using our TrapTester 6 software. The course
provides an introduction to the TrapTester software and is designed for
geoscientists and geologists who are interested in fault trap analysis. Cost
1500 GBP + VAT (17.5%) per person.
We offer a discount for participants who attend both courses (total cost 2500
GBP + VAT per person).
Fault behaviour in production
New to our training portfolio, we are offering a three-day course
using our TrapTester-TransGen software. The course explains
new methodologies for calculating fault properties from
geologically-based relationships, providing both reservoir
geologists and reservoir engineers with the common ground to
understand and use these new techniques together. It is designed
to bring the best practices, developed over the past 10 years, into
the workplace and is suitable for geologists and reservoir
engineers alike. Cost 1500 GBP + VAT (17.5%) per person.
Best practice in structural modelling
This new three-day hands-on training
course is designed to introduce users to
the best practices in structural QC,
from interpretation to maps to 3-D
models. The course is based in the
TrapTester interpretation and 3-D model
building environment. Participants will
learn how to apply modern fault analysis
concepts during structural interpretation to
identify and correct areas of poor
interpretation, as well as all the necessary
skills to create faulted structural models
and incorporate well-based data to refine
the framework model. Cost 1500 GBP +
VAT (17.5%) per person.
Fault reactivation risk
This is a new two-day hands-on training course that teaches users
how to apply the advanced functionality in TrapTester for
evaluating fault reactivation risk. It covers a wide range of
geomechanical concepts and will use the StressTester module.
Cost 1250 GBP + VAT (17.5%) per person.
The new advanced training courses will take place after the first training week to
give participants the chance to get more out of their stay in Lincolnshire.
Availability of these courses depends on demand.
If you wish to register for one or multiple course(s), please contact us or phone
us at +44 (0) 1790 753472. Visit our website for more information.
AAPG ICE 2009
Thanks for joining us!
We would like to take the opportunity to
thank all of you who came to visit our
Upstream Technology Alliance booth at
the recent AAPG ICE in Rio de Janeiro.
The exhibition was a great success
during which many of our clients, old and
new, showed their interest in our
software and services. We will be at the
AAPG in New Orleans in April next year -
hope to see you there!
