Commercial banks of Uzbekistan The paper gives general information about Uzbek banks, their financial performance, management and staff, service charges as well as clients and owners. Information is provided in two parts. The first part is 5 total tables, in which shown all banks. In total tables banks are presented in tables named as: �Business information�, �Staff�, �Service charges�, �Owners� and �Clients�. Banks in total tables sorted by owners (state, with foreign capital, joint-stock, private banks). At the second part data shows separate profile of every bank in such tables: Table A. �General information�, Table B. �Business information�, Table C. �Staff�, Table D. �Service charges�, Table E. �Owners�, and Table F. �Clients�.

Overview of Banking System The Uzbek banking sector appeared to arrive in 1990 after independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Now it consists of two levels, one is the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan (Central Bank) wielding control over a range of commercial banks and the second consists of commercial banks. The Central Bank is in charge of establishing national monetary policy, issuing currency, and operating of national payment system. Currently the second level of banking system consists of 29 commercial banks, including 3 state-owned banks. Although these three banks are state their main goal is profit and government participate at banks capital as shareholder. Two of them (National Bank for Foreign Economic Activity of Uzbekistan and State Joint-stock Commercial Asaka Bank) own about 70% of total Uzbek banks assets and both of them to be privatized during 2006-2010 years. Nowadays banking system of Uzbekistan is progressively changing. There were 32 commercial banks at the end of 2004. Currently their number has decreased to 29 due to the merger of �Zamin Bank� with �UzUyJoyJamgarmaBank� and �Kapital bank� with �AviaBank� and closure of �Business Bank�. Short-history National Bank for Foreign Economic Activity of the Republic of Uzbekistan was established in September 7, 1991 by the Degree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov on the base of local branch of VneshTorg bank of USSR. Management of the bank includes the Council and the Board. Council of the bank consists of the following members: the Minister of Finance (Chairman of the Council), representatives of the Central bank, Ministry of Economics, Agency for Foreign Economic Affairs, State property committee. The Board consists of the Chairman, his deputies and Senior Executive Directors.

Government of the country committed to the bank responsible mission of integration of Uzbekistan in world finance markets, attraction of foreign investments, support export production, organization of international payments, providing wide range of banking services of high quality. National Bank of Uzbekistan is a state bank, property of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Short-history In 1991 after gaining independence of our Republic, the first meeting of the former Soviet Union Agroprombank founders was held.
