November 2016 Volume 88, Number 11 Commodore Report First I want to thank all the members who have pitched in while I was sick. Among many others this especially includes Flag Officers Barry Keeler, Joe Altmann, and staff Greg Haws and Jennifer Whall. I received the get well card and it had far more signatures than I’ve ever seen on a card. Thank you! I would also like to congratulate all the new members introduced at the October Board meeting shown above. From left to right Philip Hebner & Diane Duey, Robert & Debby Goosey, Commodore Chuck Murray, Derek Weitz and at the far right Christopher Iezzoni. I hope all can attend the Annual General Membership (AGM) Meeting 4:00pm Sunday No- vember 6, 2016. We will summarize the big events of 2016. Jody, our new caterer, will provide the hors d’oeuvres. Thanks you Brett Gripenstraw for doing the granite in the kitchen. It makes cleaning so much easier, and looks great as well. Vern Wallace, who for years has maintained the tugs, filling them with gas at least weekly, and constantly repairing them, is now building some new ones. I think 2 will be electric, one gasoline. you for all these years of service, and I look forward to seeing the new tugs. As we do not have to deal with ice, our winter re-gatta starts Saturday, November 18. I’ve found this to be a very relaxing regatta, usually less wind, etc. When there is a storm, of course, that day is cancelled. But if you are just getting into racing I’d recommend this. There will still be team racing by the Santana 22’s. Usually more crew is needed. It is very exciting. It runs from 12:30 to about 2:45, and can include 6-7 races in that time. I had to miss some great events, like the lobster feed, prime rib dinner etc. I hope there is crab for Satur-day, November 26th as these are so much fun. I hear the Friday night dinners are really good, and I will be able to sample them myself very soon.

CheersforaHealthyClub!

We are quickly coming to the end of a year and my term serving as Vice Commodore. Reflecting on this last year I wanted to express a hearty thank you to the members who have sup-ported our efforts with their time, consideration and sweat. So this being a month of Thanksgiv-ing, I will call this an early thanksgiving tribute to our club. Thanks to all members who took part in our survey at the beginning of the year. This survey gave the board members a lot of direction and let us know the desires of the club. Even more, it let us know what the club members do not want. Thank you all for your help on our work day, we got a lot done and really improved the appearance of the club even though impeded by rain that day. Normally we barbecue burgers and hot dogs for the workers, but could not do this in the rain. My wife set up a sandwich line and in no time we had sandwiches made for everyone. Though we could not paint outside, we were able to complete a lot of improvements inside the club. Everyone worked very hard that day. Thank you! With KISS moving to a new location, a food committee was formed and we had several

meetings to determine the direction we needed to move in. KISS was very accommodating and stayed with us while we searched. We interviewed many viable candidates. Many said a major kitchen upgrade was necessary. We ultimately chose JodyLombardo and Fresh Prep Kitchens. I am pleased with Jody and her crew. They have a positive attitude and are open to suggestions. Please communicate any complaints or suggestions to Greg or myself. The feedback I get from club members on their food is almost all posi-tive. Thanks to the food committee and their work and to Jody and her crew for taking on this daunting task. While on the subject of the kitchen, in the in-terim between food service providers, the kitchen got a major cleaning and painting and granite counters. Considering the major modifications many of the pros-pects demanded, these were minor improvements that were sorely needed. Thanks to SteveNiemann and JimSkinner for the cleanup work. Thanks to BretGripenstraw for the speedy work on the countertops. Through all the trials that flag officers must go through we must offer a thanks to our hard working staff: Greg Haws and JenniferWhall. They definitely keep the club going in the right direction. Finally, I am very thankful that ChuckMur-ray is doing better. He has been through a very rough summer and seems to be doing better now. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. He has been a huge role model for me to follow. I only hope I can adequately “fill his shoes” next year when I assume my turn at the helm.

Coming up in December: Come on down to the Club on Friday, Dec 2nd and help trim the Club Christmas Tree. And don’t miss the “Lighted Boat Parade” on Saturday, Dec 3rd.
