Dear Friends:

What a Labor Day!! Lakeside is back in action and better than ever!! And to celebrate, we are having a heck of a gala, “Vegas, Baby!” Commodore’s Ball and Grand Reopening party starting at 6:00 p.m. this Saturday, September 17, complete with fancy foods, professional gaming for charity, Vegas- style entertainment, and a re-commissioning of our remodeled club complete with christening, a champagne toast, and a big round of applause for our construction committee members!! So break out your Vegas duds (glam to gaudy – let’s have fun!), call the club today to reserve your spot, and plan on having a great time with your friends and fellow members. This is the one you don’t want to miss!! Plus, as an added bonus, you can wake up just in time for the Browns home opening the next day (food and beverage specials to be announced).

Other highlights this month include the return of the Island Doctor, Scott Alan, at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 24 and pasta bar on Friday, September 30th. But then again, every day is a holiday at LYC, so grab your friends while the weather is great and the pool is open (currently scheduled to close after September 25th) and come down and enjoy your new facilities.

I hate to bring it up, but it is time to start thinking about when you will be hauling your boat for the season. The winter list is closed so please take a moment to call or visit the office to schedule your lift-out. Lift-out is available on Saturday or Sunday starting Saturday, October 1st and ending Sunday, October 30th. Please, PLEASE, let’s avoid the issues of the past few years with frozen engines and boats stuck in the ice and get out and winterized before the cold winds of November blow. Also, please take advantage of the generosity of your lift committee and don’t plan on being able to lift out during the week as labor may not be available. If you have special needs (planning on selling or moving your boat during the winter), please contact your Fleet Captain, Greg Vittardi, as soon as possible so he can make arrangements.

In closing, as Jacqueline and I near that end of our time serving the members of Lakeside as your Lady and Commodore, I want each of you to know what an honor it has been to serve each of you during this truly transformational time.

General Membership Meeting Minutes

For the July 12, 2016 Meeting

The meeting was called to order at 19:12 by Commodore Black. The following board members were present at this meeting:

The reading of the minutes was waived by motion. A count of the membership indicated a quorum was present.

Correspondence (Marquiss) – No correspondence

Commodore Black opened the meeting by describing that we were going to take the meeting out of order and dis-cuss those items that were pertinent to the conversations in the club.

Marquiss - Pool discussion. Items that were discussed:

Pool and the people coming in without a member present – need to make sure it is the membership that is using, not outside people.

Described the recent glass breakage in the pool and the actions taken. The glass forced the club to close and drain/refill the pool.

Managing the pool it is the responsibility of everyone. It is our club.

Rules will be updated to reflect some of the usage – specific items include, floats, glass, guests and member identi-fication.

Food and Beverage (Lovinger)

All know that there are bumps in the road – big project and now that we are open, there is work to do. We are tak-ing steps to improve the menu, service and food.

Service and Food not where it needs to be – we have heard your complaints and be patient. Solutions are coming.

Call or email Dan with any comments – and what you want from the food service committee.

Construction Report (Carrabine) –

Summary of the work in progress. Roof and canopy has started. Project completion August 16. There is a punch list of items to go through that is very long. We are covering piece by piece.

Questions:

Roof will be completed soon to cover and eliminate water intrusion. Heating, garage doors and lighting will follow.

Is there a gate from the parking area to the pool?

o Opposing views for the pool were presented – the inconvenience of walking around versus the desire to have

controlled access.

o Bathrooms are an issue – don’t want to walk through the pool to get to bathroom.

o The membership would like access sooner rather than later

o Proposal was presented to ask the membership at the next general member meeting – on if a gate is needed. This

proposal assumed that the question would be posed on the ballot with the election of officers.

o It asked if we could wait until we get the club done then address all concerns, including the gate issue. Give the

club the time to finish.

o Gate or pool attendant was requested. The discussion included pros and cons. Larry will have someone in place

immediately for the weekend traffic.

Front Gate is to be secured during RNC.

Treasurers Report (Hunt) –

Club is in good shape. We have $250,000 in the bank, committed funds are $150K. If everything goes as planned $50K in the bank in October. The bond fund is in place to cover cost overruns due to the construction items. First dollars go to construction, then furnishing, and then other corrections to the facility. The only purpose for the bond fund is the club renovations and landscaping.

Bond program is available and a sheet describing the program is on the table. We would like to have additional members.

Questions

Do we plan on repaying the bond fund early – it is non-callable for the first three years. After that, a program to re-tire the bonds will be followed. Too soon to tell.

Manager’s Report (Orlowski) –

We are heading in the correct direction – there are some members that are upset. Problems will be dealt with and we will get the business back to where it was. Any issues, please talk to Larry.

Questions:

Restaurant sales were reported as down – does it take into account the new restaurant sales. No surplus, but we have modeled out the sales with a couple of down months.

POS discussion – the new system should be out on Friday. The web and POS are coming online. More information is coming with the new system.

Dock hands are a rarity on the docks – and they need the training to handle the boats. Their priority is handling the boats and training will be handled. There are bumps that we are dealing with, and we are taking the steps to make sure that they perform the job.

Bathrooms were not working, they are fixed now. We are setting up a work order process to make sure that the items are being fixed timely without inconvenience to the member.

Discussion on the WiFi and the implementation. Cameras and the wifi in process of completion.

Harbor Masters Report – No report

Fleet Captain (Vittardi) – No report

Membership Report (Kubik) –

25 new members and anticipating 10 new ones.

Questions:

Current dues and membership value for a Social member - $1000 in dues and $110 per month dues

The club is at plus 13 for the net membership count

August show – Sandusky in water is a new show for us and hope to attract new members with full initiation and dues, with free docks for 2016

Finance Committee (Hunt) – Met several times, doing planning for next year. Dependent on the membership num-bers. We have wage increases, and have a number of other item increasing, so am LYC General Membership looking at how it affects budget. Social initiation fee needs to increase due to the way the club expenses have changed.

Questions:

What percentage of membership is Senior to Social – 2 to 1

Asked to look at the senior member going down to social as a new category.

The comment was made to reflect that we are a yacht club, not a dinner or social club. First and foremost Yachting.


House and Grounds Report (Cunningham) – Dirk and the crew are all new. Pushing to get to the boats as the first priority. Children’s playground is nearly complete.

Barb wire is done on exterior fencing.

Docks (Vittardi) – no report

Planning (Ginsburg) – no report

Regatta (Ruhlman) – Regatta did not happen. Long story tradition and the club was not ready. Decision was well re-ceived but understood the issues. Postponing the McCarty race to late August.

Rules (Lovinger) – no report

Grievance (Szabo) – no report

Entertainment Committee Report (Wolf) – no report

Outreach committee (Sparano) – no report
