To the Honorable, the Common council.
Gentlemen: Your Railway committee, to whom was referred the communication of the State Railway Oo^m-mission relative to the application of the American Express Co., and the Wells-Fargo & Co. for authority to make a joint office in the city, begs leave to report as follows: "We have investigated the mat ter very carefully and have taken it up with the merchants who would ibe interested in the matter and it is the wishes of those merchants tha t the offices be not consolidated. Their objection is due to the fact tha t they feel that there will be no competition as regards the mat ter of delivering express received in the city. The committee feels much the same as the merchants interviewed on the mat te r and are not, therefore in favor of a joint office.
